The paper explores the application of art-based learning to teach the concepts of caring theories. A course was designed for the post-license nursing program to teach the art and science of caring in nursing. The objective was for the student to translate theoretical concepts of caring into everyday practice and be able to foster an environment that supports healing through building healthy, caring relationships with a patient. Aesthetic learning enabled the students to translate their knowledge, experiences, and reflections into improving their interactions with their patients and recognizing that caring behaviors permeate everything nurses do for their patients.

Nursing faculty adjust teaching strategies to create best practices while balancing individual needs of students. They attempt to incorporate compassionate care for persons with Parkinson's disease into their curricula, yet no studies were found on meaningful strategies. A study was done with four universities in which students participated in in-class interviews, assigned readings, and guided, reflective journals. Broad themes emerged: lack of clinical exposure to persons with Parkinson's disease, shattering stereotypes, and the importance and power of a positive mindset of persons with Parkinson's disease. This study illustrates an approach of incorporating the patient human experience into meaningful teaching experiences for students.

The purpose of this review was to explore the literature as it relates to the impact of study abroad from the perspective of host community members. Research regarding study abroad focuses on the benefits and impact on student participants leaving a limited body of knowledge that focuses on the host community perspective. Guided by Watson's Human Caring Science, an integrative literature review with descriptive analysis was conducted. Four themes surfaced from the review: establishment of trust, consideration of reciprocity, acknowledgment of responsibility, and implementation of preparation. Each theme was discussed in detail and connected to Watson's 10 caritas processes.

The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine how time spent in a preceptorship experience changed senior-level nursing students' perception of caring. In addition, different types of clinical units and preceptors were explored as a means to change caring perceptions of students. Caring perceptions were measured using the Caring Dimensions Inventory. A significant relationship was found between the years of experience of the nurse preceptors and students' perception of care. The results of the study demonstrated that nursing preceptorships can play an integral role in providing care ethics education within the nursing curriculum.
