Background

Aging is a global biological process characterized by degenerative changes in physiological systems, most notably a decrease in face muscle tone and soft tissue volume, which have a substantial impact on facial esthetics in the periorbital area. This systematic study assesses the clinical outcomes of different thread lifting procedures for brow rejuvenation, with an emphasis on safety, efficacy, and side effects.

Methods

To promote scientific rigor and transparency, this systematic review used the latest PRISMA-E guidelines (2020). A thorough literature search was carried out using numerous databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, TRIP, and the Cochrane Library. The I2 value of 0.92 indicates significant variety in study designs, patient characteristics, and therapies.

Results

A total of 6 studies were included, with 419 patients in sample sizes ranging from 12 to 193 (mean = 69). Participants had an average age of 55 years (range: 21–89) and were monitored for 10–11 months. All investigations used standardized photographic assessments (100%). Ecchymosis and post-procedural edema were the most common side effects observed, accounting for 83.4% of all cases. Notably, two-thirds of the studies (66.7%) demonstrated a low risk of bias, indicating moderate methodological robustness and internal validity.

Conclusion

Thread lifting procedures for brow rejuvenation have a positive safety and efficacy profile, providing a viable nonsurgical alternative to established approaches. Future research, particularly large-scale, long-term randomized controlled trials, is critical for refining these strategies and developing evidence-based clinical recommendations.

Introduction

Hair removal is a fundamental aspect of daily life, with various hair removal methods evolving throughout hair removal history to meet cultural, aesthetic, and spiritual needs. Traditional hair removal practices have long sought effective hair removal products that not only remove hair but also promote skin health. Cyperus rotundus L. (Cr L.), known as nut grass or purple nut sedge, has long been used in traditional medicinal systems like Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for treating various ailments, including skin conditions and depilation.

Aim

To understand the role of Cr L. in decreasing hair growth.

Results

Cr L. contains essential oils (EOs) and phytochemicals such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins, which contribute to its hair-removal properties. These compounds target hair follicles, dissolve keratin, and inhibit hair regrowth by modulating biological pathways. γ-curcumene, a key component, has been shown to suppress hair growth. Recent clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of Cyperus rotundus EO (CREO) in reducing hair growth, with minimal side effects. CREO has been found as effective as Alexandrite laser treatments in some cases, particularly in reducing white hair. This positions Cr L. as a promising natural alternative to chemical depilatories, which often cause skin irritation.

Conclusion

Cr L. shows significant potential as a natural hair removal agent. With its strong safety profile and growing consumer demand for natural, sustainable beauty products, Cr L. could serve as a viable alternative to synthetic depilatories, pending further clinical validation.

Background

Aquasomes are novel nanoparticulate carriers that are applied topically to deliver medications, particularly in dermatology. These carriers are composed of a polyhydroxy oligomer layer covering a solid core, usually composed of ceramic or calcium phosphate. The bioactivity of delicate molecules, such as proteins, peptides, and genetic material, is preserved by this special structure. Aquasomes are especially useful for improving the stability, bioavailability, and controlled release of therapeutic substance, while reducing systemic absorption and unfavorable side effects.

Method

The efficacy of aquasomes in treating dermatological conditions has been the subject of recent research. Their capacity to administer anti-inflammatory medications for ailments like acne, psoriasis as well as wound healing has been investigated. Additionally, research has looked into how well aquasomes can help bigger molecules pass through the epidermal barrier. The effectiveness, safety, as well as skin irritation of aquasomes have been evaluated through comparisons with traditional topical formulations.

Results

Aquasomes were less irritating and more effective than conventional topical applications for localized skin conditions. Furthermore, a 2024 study showed that aquasomes improved the ability of big molecules to pass through the epidermal barrier, which made them appropriate for noninvasive medication administration.

Conclusion

In the fields of dermatology and cosmetics, aquasomes hold great promise as a topical treatment delivery system. With fewer adverse effects, they provide improved stability, bioavailability, along with controlled drug release. The therapeutic value for dealing with skin conditions and enhancing cosmetic formulations will be maximized with continued research to optimize their properties.

Background

Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune dermatosis characterized by progressive hypopigmentation, which affects ~0.2%–2% of the global population. This condition can have significant psychosocial impacts, particularly in individuals with darker skin phenotypes. Recent studies have suggested that Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors, especially topical ruxolitinib, could offer therapeutic potential in managing vitiligo.

Objective

To systematically review the therapeutic efficacy, safety profile, and potential synergistic effects of topical JAK inhibitors, particularly ruxolitinib, in the treatment of vitiligo.

Methods

A systematic review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Data from 6 studies, encompassing 385 subjects, were synthesized. The primary outcome measure was the improvement in Vitiligo Area Scoring Index (VASI), and the methodological quality was assessed using the MINORS scale.

Results

Topical ruxolitinib demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in VASI scores (pooled estimate = 0.58; 95% CI: 0.44–0.73; p ≤ 0.001). The synergistic effect of ruxolitinib combined with narrowband ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) phototherapy yielded a mean VASI score improvement of 37.6%. Furthermore, 30.4% of patients receiving 1.5% ruxolitinib cream achieved a 75% improvement in facial VASI (F-VASI) scores.

Conclusion

Topical JAK inhibitors, including ruxolitinib, show considerable efficacy in improving VASI scores and facilitating repigmentation in vitiligo patients. The combination of JAK inhibitors with NB-UVB therapy demonstrates enhanced therapeutic effects. These findings underscore the potential of JAK inhibitors as effective treatment modalities, although further research is needed to standardize treatment protocols and evaluate long-term impacts on patient quality of life.
