Dental implants have revolutionized the field of restorative dentistry, providing a durable and long-lasting solution for replacing missing teeth. Among various biomaterials, titanium has proven to be the most suitable material for dental implants because of its incredible biocompatibility, mechanical properties, and unique surface characteristics. This scientific write-up reviews the comprehensive overview of various surface modification techniques employed to improve the osseointegration, antimicrobial properties, surface topography, and anti-corrosion behavior of titanium as a dental implant biomaterial, highlighting its role in improving implant success rates and long-term clinical outcomes

Unusually Large Radicular Cyst of Mandible: A Rare Case Report 下颌骨异常大的根状囊肿1例

A radicular or periapical cyst or periradicular cyst is the most common odontogenic cyst mostly seen in mandible. It is mostly symptomless and are found accidently during periapical radiographs involving non-vital pulp which heals spontaneously after endodontic treatment of the aberrant tooth or after extraction. However, recommended treatment is complete enucleation of the cyst to remove all the epithelial remnants. In this article, we report a case of a 18year old female patient with large periapical cyst along with deep bite and attrition.

Comparison of the Effect of Various Surface Treatments on the Microtensile Bond Strength of Lithium Disilicate Ceramic with Dentin- An In-vitro Study 不同表面处理对二硅酸锂陶瓷与牙本质微拉伸结合强度影响的体外研究

AIM AND OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the effect of various surface treatments on the microtensile bond strength of Lithium disilicate ceramic with dentin. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 45 human extracted premolars were obtained for the study. The samples were mounted in dental stone blocks having two “V” shaped notch on mesial and distal side of the mounted tooth. The samples were divided into three groups with 15 samples in each. The GROUP-A Control (without any surface treatment), GROUP-B (air abrasion with Al2O3 particles for 15 seconds) and GROUP-C (laser treatment for 5 seconds). Standardize tooth preparation was done on samples and lithium disilicate crowns were fabricated with a loop on occlusal surface. After surface treatment crowns were luted with self adhesive resin cement and pull out load test was performed in universal testing machine. The data was analysed using one way ANOVA TEST for multiple group comparison followed by Tusky HSD post hoc test. Level of significance was considered at 5% (p-value<0.05). RESULTS: The surface treatment considerably increased the retention of lithium disilicate crowns. The air abrasion group showed the highest microtensile bond strength values. There was significant difference between air abrasion and laser treatment groups. CONCLUSION: It was evident that microtensile bond strength was adequately increased after both the surface treatments (air abrasion with Al2O3 particles and laser treatment) and there was significant increase in bond strength with air abrasion with Al2O3 particles group when compared to laser treatment group.

Revisiting “Plaque Free Zone”- Island of Peace in a Zone of Conflict: A stereomicroscopic study 重访“无斑块区”-冲突地区的和平之岛:立体显微镜研究

Aim: This study was undertaken to find if Plaque Free Zone (PFZ) indeed was a ubiquitous entity observed both on healthy and diseased teeth and further to compare the width of PFZ in healthy and diseased teeth. Material & Methods: Out of total 31 teeth, 18 teeth extracted from patients with chronic periodontitis and 13 teeth extracted from healthy individuals were examined. The teeth were stained and measurements of width of PFZ were made. Photomicrographs were taken at 20X magnification using a stereomicroscope & measurements were made using Image J software. The data obtained was subjected to statistical analysis. Results: A significantly wider PFZ was found on the surfaces of teeth of healthy group as compared to diseased group. Conclusion: Wider PFZ zone in healthy teeth may have a protective role preventing direct contact of bacteria with underlying periodontal ligament. Invasion of this zone during mechanical instrumentation needs to be avoided. Clinical Significance: The existence of plaque free zone has clinical implications. Instrumentation beyond the base of the pocket during SRP may upset the delicate balance existing at tooth sulcus/pocket interface.

Management of Papilla Penetrating Frenum Using Z-plasty Technique - A Case Report z -成形术治疗乳头穿透系带1例

Frenectomy is a surgical procedure that is commonly used to address issues related to the frenulum which can affect speech and can cause midline diastema which looks unesthetic. Z-plasty is a modification of the standard frenectomy procedure to reposition the frenulum and improve outcomes. Tooth and Nail Syndrome- A rare case report 牙齿和指甲综合症-一个罕见的病例报告

Abstract: A uncommon autosomal dominant condition called Witkop's syndrome is marked by irregularities in the teeth and nails. It is an ectodermal dysplasia variation, which is thought to affect 1 in 100,000 live births. As a result, it is extremely difficult to identify in the general population due to its low prevalence and lack of distinguishing characteristics. The case study's objectives are to add to the body of existing knowledge by providing a useful approach to discovering the uncommon.

Management of Lateral Periodontal Cyst with Platelet Concentrate 浓缩血小板治疗侧周囊肿

Abstract A periodontal cyst (LPC) is considered a rare developmental odontogenic cyst, originates from epithelial rests in the periodontal ligament, and is a non-inflammatory cyst on the lateral surface of the root of a vital tooth. This case report features a 22-year-old female who complained of a painful hyperplastic lesion that had been present for two months between the distobuccal site of her maxillary right lateral incisor (#12) and the mesiobuccal site of her maxillary canine (#13). Radiographically, an interproximal periodontal cyst appears on the side of the root and extends to the apex of an involved tooth as a radiolucent area with a well-defined bordered by a radiopaque line that cannot be differentiated from that of a periodontal abscess. This case report discusses the management of LPC using surgical enucleation with adjunctive use of regenerative platelet concentrate.

Revitalizing Worn-Out Overdenture Attachments in One-Piece Implant Cases using Silicone Matrix System: A Case Report 使用硅胶基质系统修复磨损的覆盖义齿附著体:一例报告

The case report discusses the use of a silicone matrix system for salvaging worn-out overdenture attachments in one-piece implant cases. It highlights the effectiveness of this technique and presents a detailed case study. One-piece or single-piece implant systems, where the intraosseous and abutment portions with the stud attachments consist of one unit, do not allow changing the worn-out abutment individually if required, thus ruling out any further use of implant and abutment once the attachment component faces extensive irreversible wearing. The ‘Retention. Sil’ – an additional curing elastomeric material in salvaging worn-out attachments of one-piece implants, emphasizes the revitalization process and effective use as an attachment for implant-retained overdenture, thereby extending the clinical use of one-piece implants and avoiding extensive invasive procedures in geriatric patients.
