Purpose: The purpose of this article is to discuss the last mile concept for the proposed Bydgoszcz Logistics Hub in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region, and thus to present the forecast distribution of goods within the last mile from and to the Hub, and to indicate the role that it could play in the region.Method: The development of the last mile concept for the Bydgoszcz Logistics Hub was based on secondary data. The first two stages of work, not discussed in this article, included case studies of 6 successfully operating foreign and domestic transhipment terminals and an analysis of the supply and demand for transport in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship. The third stage, the results of which are presented in this article, involved the identification of the most important national centres generating supply and demand for transport within a radius of 280 km from the Hub. Data, allowing to estimate the potential demand for the fright transport on the analysed routes and their costs depending on the mode of transport, came mainly from the Central Statistical Office, the Railway Transport Office, the General Board of National Roads, the National Bank of Poland and Port of Gdynia and Gdańsk Authorities.Results: The data show that in the period covered by the forecast (2019-2034), the most important change in the transport model of the Hub service area will be a significant increase in inland waterways transport of the Vistula River.Conclusions: The forecast operation of the last mile for the Bydgoszcz Logistics Hub justifies the reloading, storage and forwarding of goods in the area of the Bydgoszcz-Toruń agglomeration. The construction of the Bydgoszcz Logistic Hub will bring improvement to the already existing road links leading to the most important logistic centres, located, on the one hand, in the Tricity seaports, on the other hand, in large economic centres in Poznań, Łódź and Warsaw.Keywords: Baltic Sea Region, combine transport, logistics hub, last milePaper type: Research paper

This article addresses the relationship between dynamic capabilities and core competencies of companies. Both categories are among the most popular and practical issues in management science, fitting into the resource-based view of the firm. They should be consciously worked out in the company and both have the potential to become sources of sustainable competitive advantages. Despite a good study of the two issues in the literature, little attention has been paid to their relationship. The author has attempted to do so believing that it will contribute to further empirical research. A case study of a leading Polish sanatorium company, Uzdrowisko Ciechocinek S.A., which is in the process of permanent and purposeful organizational changes, was used. The results obtained illustrate the positive relationship between the variables used in the study.

Purpose: This study attempted to investigate the effects of COVID-19 on the performance of National Teachers’ Colleges (NTCs) supported by Enabel.Methodology/approach: The study adopted a cross sectional research design. The study population consisted of staff working in the NTCs purposely or randomly selected. The self-administered questionnaire was used to collect the data that was analysed using both descriptive and inferential analysis.Findings: The research findings showed that programmes disruptions (r = 0.496); funding disruptions (r = .403) and capacity gap (r = .556) are moderately significant and positively associated with NTC performance respectively. Overall, the variables studied explain 33.9 percent of the variation in the organizational performance of NTCs.Implications/limitations: The research findings have shown that whereas programme disruptions and capacity gaps significantly contributed to the explanation of performance in NTCs during the lockdown, funding disruptions do not. The study recommends the continued adoption of innovative approaches to realize the objective of quality teacher training and education. Research into the effects of Covid-19 on the students in NTC is recommended, as this current study did not explore the component of students.Originality/value: While the effects of Covid-19 on the education sector have been studied, this has been mainly done at the primary and secondary levels of education in Uganda. This paper has attempted to investigate Covid-19 effects on NTCs supported by Enabel.Keywords: Covid-19; programme disruptions; funding disruptions; capacity gaps; organizational performancePaper type: Research paper

W odniesieniu do źródeł pierwotnych zostały przeprowadzone wywiady z jednym producentem półprzewodników i trzema producentami urządzeń elektronicznych.

Research Purpose: The aim of the present study is threefold. First, it intends to describe workers’ psychological empowerment in a sample of Portuguese workers. Secondly, to describe empowering leadership perceived by employees about their hierarchical superiors. Finally, to examine the relationships between psychological empowerment dimensions and empowering leadership dimensions.Method: A cross-sectional survey design was adopted with a convenience sample of Portuguese workers (N = 125). Cronbach’s alpha was utilized to examine the reliability of the dimensions. Pearson’s correlation coefficient and simple linear regressions were used to analyze the association between empowering leadership and psychological empowerment dimensions.Measuring Instruments: Spreitzer’s Psychological Instrument and the Empowering Leadership Scale were administered.Main findings: The results revealed significant and positive correlations between empowering leadership and psychological empowerment dimensions, especially employee self-determination.Implications/limitations: This research demonstrates that leaders can have an active role in increasing employee psychological empowerment, which can be an antecedent of positive employee attitudes and work outcomes. It is suggested in future studies to use more extensive and more representative samples. Furthermore, longitudinal and experimental research designs will verify if there is a significant causal relationship between empowering leadership and psychological empowerment.Value of the paper: This study empirically confirms that empowering leadership is associated with employees’ psychological empowerment among Portuguese workers.Keywords: empowering leadership, psychological empowerment, Portuguese workers, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, linear regressionType of paper: Research paper

Purpose: The aim of the article is to present the results of the analysis of the University's educational services promotion strategy with the participation of social media in the process of acquiring and maintaining lasting relationships with stakeholders.Methodology: The research concerned the quality of service to stakeholders of the Pope John Paul II State School of Higher Education in Biala Podlaska, (Poland, Lubelskie Voivodeship) and the level of their satisfaction with promotional activities undertaken by the analyzed entity, as well as the determinants of choosing the place of education in correlation with the possibilities of sustainable development. Empirical research was conducted in the third quarter of 2020 using an on-line questionnaire, based on the deliberate selection of respondents.Findings: The analysis of the results focused on promotional activities that the examined entity should keep or develop on the pages of selected social networks. Acquiring new fans was indicated as the best-rated activities of the University, which directly translates into the visibility and range of the generated content. According to the respondents, the surveyed entity should publish content more often via social media in order to build lasting relationships with the immediate environment.Implications: According to the respondents, the University should publish more content on the Internet. Respondents indicated that other students may be helpful in publishing posts. The survey showed that most of the respondents recommended the University to their friends thanks to the earlier reading of its offer on the Internet, on one of the social networks.Originality: An original scientific article on the use of social media in the promotion of educational services, the first references to it appear in the literature on the subject at the beginning of the 21st century.Keywords: internet, educational services, marketing services, social mediaPaper type: Research paper

Purpose: The aim of this study is to test for moderating role of corporate volunteering in relationships between perceived supervisor support, positive relationships at work, work meaningfulness, and work engagement.Methodology/approach: The study is based on a survey conducted on a sample of 724 Polish employees, both involved and non-involved in corporate volunteering.Findings: Results of the study suggest that employee participation in corporate volunteering moderates the link between positive relationships at work and work engagement, and the link between perceived supervisor support and work engagement mediated by positive relationships at work.Implications: Results of the study are consistent with previous studies, which have been proved theoretically by the conservation of resources theory (COR) and self determination theory (SDT). Besides, the findings deliver practical implications. Companies are recommended to design employee-friendly volunteering activities to meet employee needs, and attract those employees who have never participated in volunteering.Originality/value: The study explains the effects of corporate volunteering. It also contributes to the field of organizational behaviors by arguing for the direct and indirect positive relationships between perceived supervisor support and work engagement.Keywords: corporate volunteering, affective commitment, work engagement, positive relationships at workPaper type: Research paper

Companies are recommended to design employee-friendly volunteering activities to meet employee needs, and attract those employees who have never participated in volunteering.Originality/value: The study explains the effects of corporate volunteering. It also contributes to the field of organizational behaviors by arguing for the direct and indirect positive relationships between perceived supervisor support and work engagement.Keywords: corporate volunteering, affective commitment, work engagement, positive relationships at workPaper type: Research paper","PeriodicalId":103376,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Positive Management","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114437135","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
Purpose: This article presents an overview of the constructive functions of embracing (instead of rejecting) contradictions (otherwise known as a paradox mindset or Janusian thinking). It also demonstrates the positive impact of tension resulting from the cognitive consideration of simultaneous contradictions (as opposed to the traditional conviction that such cognitive dissonance isexperienced as uncomfortable and reduced). Additionally, this article highlights the positive impact of a paradox mindset on augmenting teams’ and institutions’ creativity and performance. It also documents a method of evaluating the propensity for embracing contradictions (i.e., a paradox mindset).Design/methodology/approach: This article documents the construction and validation of an assessment tool, i.e., the Influence of Contradictions Questionnaire (ICQ), for evaluating the level of propensity for a paradox mindset.Findings: In the validation process (n = 120 Anglophonic sample), the ICQ proved to have positive psychometric parameters (discrimination power and reliability).Social implications: The ICQ can be used for scientific purposes, e.g., for comparison between segments of society or for finding possible correlations with other personality traits (e.g., empathy). It could also serve as an evaluation tool for teams’ and individuals’ levels of propensity for conceptual blending—especially when measuring the results of training in this area.Originality/value: This is a novel approach, both in the theoretical review of various manifestations of embracing contradictions, as well as in designing a comprehensive evaluation method.Keywords: contradictions, Janusian thinking, conceptual blending, creativity, embracing contradictions, divergent thinkingPaper type: Research paper
