Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify the internal development determinants of Polish companies in the USA, considering the character of their activity, i.e. splitting them into two business sectors traditional industries and new technologies. Methodology: The research has been conducted by sending by post and e-mail a standardised questionnaire to Polish companies that have undertaken foreign direct investment in the USA. As a result, 19 properly filled survey questionnaires were returned. Findings: The findings of the research indicated that Polish companies see major determinants of development in the USA in internal factors, including applied technology, innovative products/ services, organisation of production processes/services and management skills. Slight differences in the answers of companies representing both groups (traditional industries and new technologies) mainly concerned the strength of impact of particular assets. For companies in the new technologies group, most important growth determinants were, above all, used technology and innovation of products/services, while companies operating in traditional industries found the strongest positive impact in leadership, competences of the management staff and organisation culture. Implications: Both the research results and the very fact of involvement in foreign investment in such competitive environment demonstrate that Polish companies are aware of the strength of their assets. Just as enterprises from the developed countries, they benefit from ownership advantages on foreign markets. These are not, however, cost advantages attributed to companies from the emerging markets in the subject literature, but those perceived as the domain of the companies from the developed countries. Originality: This paper concerns a still insufficiently defined problem of foreign direct investment of companies from mid-range emerging economies in developed countries.

There is a long history of drawing a large cultural distinction between West and East based on the constructs of individualism and collectivism. This coincides with a growing awareness of urban spatial change from the perspective of activity-travel behavior. However, limited attention has been paid to this issue. This paper contributes to the literature on how to examine cultures by investigating companion choice in travel behavior based on activity diary surveys collected in Beijing (China) and Utrecht (the Netherlands). The results show that participants in Beijing travel more often with family members, whereas those in Utrecht tend to travel alone or with friends. These important differences are mediated through sociodemographic, travel purpose and transport mode. The findings provide evidence that collective behavior is popular in Eastern society, whereas individualistic behavior is prevalent in Western society. These results will hopefully stimulate further analysis of cultural differences in transportation policy.

Cloud computing as a relatively new information and communication technology (ICT) introduces a change in the way companies conduct business by offering them new opportunities. Organizations operating on the market that decide to implement cloud computing solutions in their daily work must take into account the size of the changes. Such a change, although it seems to be only a technological change, also affects the change of the company’s technological processes, which is not without an impact on the organization of the company, also causing changes in its structure. In the face of such extensive changes in the company, the competences of employees must also change. The research question posed for the purpose of this study concerns the methods of acquiring new competences by employees, necessary in the face of a change in the organization in the form of the implementation of cloud solutions for everyday work. The results of the conducted research indicate that the most commonly used method is the training of key users (used in 59.25% of the 400 companies surveyed). Other significant statistical data are presented in the article. Purpose: The research question posed for the purpose of this study concerns the methods of acquiring new competences by employees, necessary in the face of a change in the organization in the form of the implementation of cloud solutions for everyday work in Polish production companies. Methodology: The CATI survey (computer-assisted telephone interviewing) was used as the research method with the return rate of 0.7966% (400 companies). Findings: The results of the conducted research indicate that the most commonly used method is the training of key users (used in 59.25% of the surveyed companies). Only 0.0225 of the surveyed companies use “other” methods than the proposals listed in the survey to improve competences (key users training, all users training, learning by reading manuals and e-learning training), which leads to questions about the reason for such a low diversity of introduced methods. Implications/limitations: The conducted research helps to determine the method of raising the competences most frequently used by companies during cloud implementation. Outcomes also allow practitioners to customize the training offer of competences rising directed to key users. 19 SOURCES OF IMPROVEMENT OF USERS’ Magdalena Zalewska-Turzyńska The type of necessary competences may be an important criterion for choosing the method of obtaining them – this needs verification. Moreover covid situation has changed attitude towards remote methods of raising employee competences (this also needs further research). Originality/value: This paper contains the results of research on the methods chosen by employers to raise employee competences when implementing cloud solutions in Polish manufacturing companies.

Purpose: The main purpose of the article is to present theoretical assumptions of emotional intelligence and its influence on leadership challenges. The article presents the evolution of the leadership concepts and the most important models of emotional intelligence in order to identify the attributes that influence leader effectiveness and the role of emotional intelligence in leadership. Methodology: The article has been written following a careful review of leading literature of the subject and in accordance with the logics of resource-based view. Conclusions: Emotional intelligence is of high significance in leadership and its level affects the quality of collaboration and fosters networking based on healthy relationships. A manager with a high EQ consciously and effectively creates a work atmosphere that supports solving problems, and his/her ability to control own and others’ emotions builds trust and encourages creativity, development, and even committing mistakes, thus creating a sustainable, success-oriented organisational culture. Originality/Value: This article contributes to further discussion on the role of emotional intelligence in leadership. The very concept of emotional intelligence and its internal structure is still evolving, just as it is in the case of leadership. As a result, the dynamics of both areas, their interdependence and varying attitudes of scientists make it difficult to identify a precise boundary defining the extent to which emotional intelligence determines leader effectiveness, which even more encourages further research and extrapolation of these areas.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the role of logistics service providers (LSPs) in environmental performance improvement of transport processes in chemical supply chains. Methodology: Lessons learnt are derived from the Interreg Central Europe Project ChemMulti-modal, in which 59 companies in Central Europe (including 5 in Poland) tested transport modal shifts. The author presented 5 case studies of transport practices developed by chemical companies operating in Poland. Each case study is based on in-depth and detailed examination of a particular transport process using the ChemMultimodal toolbox. Findings: The role of LSPs as architects of transport processes as well as integrators of transport modes and connections is crucial for rising environmental effects in chemical supply chains. As a result of collaborative outsourcing, the potential of CO2 emissions reduction by app. 60% is really significant in transport management of chemical products. Originality/value: An in-depth analysis based on case studies of chemical companies sheds light on the value delivered by integrating LSPs into corporate environmental responsibility in supply chains. Conclusions drawn for the significance of environmental impacts of multimodal transport in chemical supply chains can be a good reference point for logistics managers in diverse industries.

Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to investigate the combined effect of prosocial motivation and organizational citizenship behavior on entrepreneurial orientation Methodology/approach: The research was carried out on a sample of 406 enterprises using multi-source cross-sectional design. The main analytical technique is hierarchical regression analysis. Findings: No impact of prosocial motivation on innovativeness was observed. Among dimensions of OCB only three of them proved to have any impact on organizational entrepreneurship. Altruism is positively related to innovativeness and proactiveness. Sportsmanship is positively related to all three dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation. The only negative influence of OCB dimensions on organizational entrepreneurship was observed for conscientiousness and innovativeness. Environment seems to have a strong impact on the relationship between OCB and entrepreneurial orientation. Expectedly, the impact of dynamism and complexity is positive, so in fast changing and complicated circumstances that influence is stronger. Unexpectedly, for environmental hostility the effect is negative. Implications/limitations either for further research, for practice, or for society: The study brings some practical recommendations concerning the ways of making the company more entrepreneurial concerning altruism, sportsmanship and conscientiousness. The results also add to ongoing discussion on dimensionality of entrepreneurial orientation. As the impact of prosocial motivation and OCB is rather similar for all three dimensions of EO, results point to rather unidimensional view of entrepreneurial orientation instead of multidimensional one. Originality/value of the paper: The study brings some contribution to the discussion on social antecedents of entrepreneurial orientation. It sheds light on possible outcomes of organizational citizenship behaviors for organizational entrepreneurship. Until now, the research in that regard was rather scarce.
