Surgical procedure is a significant factor for patients and is associated with depression. The literature review aims to identify depressive conditions in patients with a history of postoperative hospitalization. Depressive conditions, anesthesia and surgery can lead to a high increase in patient morbidity and mortality. Major depressive disorder is a common complication, which can lead to increased morbidity and mortality. Depressive disorders can cause patients to develop certain diseases that occur postoperatively, especially in patients who have malignant tumors or carcinomas that will undergo surgery. Depression is associated with cognitive impairment, which is exacerbated by postoperative events. There is evidence that postoperative pain is seriously depressing and depression causes pain to worsen. Depression is also said to be a strong predictor and correlates with persistent postoperative pain. Some studies say depression is an objective risk factor that can lead to a long recovery after surgery. Depression can also occur in patients admitted to the intensive care unit, which is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates, thereby increasing the possibility of additional hospitalization costs.

Disorder of sexual development (DSD) is one of challenging disorder that has to be done clinically and physiologically. The patients and relatives may experience various psychosocial problems that have an impact on their live. The aim of this study is to look at psychological problem in children with DSD and their relatives. A systematic search was conducted in PubMed for articles representing information on psychological problem to the patient and their relatives. Relevant data were extracted and narratively reviewed. The result of this review can be used as basic data in the development of counselling program for the patients and their relatives.

Amputation alters the quality of life with an undeniable negative somatic and functional impact. The patient’s general mobility is impaired and there is an increase in metabolic needs as well as pain and discomfort. Etiologies are quite diverse: essentially vascular pathologies (74%) for the lower limbs and trauma related (61%) for the upper limbs. Thus, an important number of patients have to face amputation-related consequences. Pain (stump, phantom limb, back pain) is frequently described in 65 to 75% of patients after an amputation as well as the common onset of major depressive disorders for 35% of them. With the incidence of depression after limb amputation increasing in the patients, we sought to summarize the management of depression in amputation patients.

Delirium of anesthesiology is a clinical phenomenon widespread in children. Although the pathophysiology is still uncertain, some factors seem to be involved, such as rapid awakening in an unknown environment, agitation during anesthetic induction, preoperative anxiety, environmental disorders, pre-anesthetic medication, and inhalational anesthetics. There remain unanswered questions and implications related to the emergence of delirium in children. Although we know that there are some predisposing factors to emergence delirium, we still cannot accurately identify those at most significant risk. Emergent delirium should be considered a ‘vital sign,’ which should be followed and documented in every child in the postanaesthesia recovery period. What should adopt standardized screening tools for pediatric emergence delirium(ED).

Pediatric patients with thalassemia experience various psychosocial problems that have an impact on the decreased quality of life resulting in depression. The purpose of this study was to look at psychosocial problems and things that happen to children and adolescents with thalassemia related psychosocial experiences. The literature study was made by analyzing scientific articles published from 2015-2020 and in English. Data were obtained from the Scopus, Wiley, Pumbed, and Proquest databases with the keywords psychosocial, pediatric, thalassemia, and quality of life. The results of the literature study found 11 articles that matched the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The course of the disease from thalassemia that requires intense treatment, the patient faces a considerable psychological burden. Social isolation, decreased self-esteem, poor academic performance, contribute to psychological stress. This will have an impact on decreasing the quality of life. The results of the review of the literature review can be used as basic data in the development of counseling and mentoring programs for pediatric and adolescent patients with thalassemia major.

Burn injuries are defined as injuries caused by the application of heat, chemicals, electrical current or radiation to the external or internal surface of the body, which causes destruction of the tissue. Burns are acute, unpredictable and devastating forms of trauma which affect both the physical and psychological health of the victim. The patient who suffers from burn injuries can be subjected to various mental and psychological conditions that can adversely affect their health and wellbeing. Understanding the nature of their ailment and the impact it has on their health involves a detailed study of the nature of burn, socioeconomic factors, personal life, and reason for the injury. This literature review aims to describe depression related burn injury.

Femoral fractures are a challenging medical and social problem as they may occur at any age. All the available osteosynthesis types can be used to treat such injuries. However, despite the disadvantages, fixation with plates has been the most common and developed. The PubMed and EMBASE databases were used to perform a systematic review of the English literature to assess the functional results and complications associated with proximal humerus locking plates. All institutional, author, and journal information was concealed to minimize reviewer bias. Fixation of proximal humerus fractures with proximal humerus locking plates is associated with a high rate of complications and reoperation. Further study is needed to determine what technical errors and patient characteristics are risk factors for failure of this now common fixation technique.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus is the most common chronic endocrine pathology among children. Data from the Indonesian Pediatric Association (IDAI) states that the incidence of DM in children aged 0-18 years has increased by 700% over a period of 10 years. Treatment includes diet, physical activity, insulin medication, and proper self-control. The necessary changes in habits and lifestyles can lead to psychosocial problems, including anxiety, depression and eating disorders. Subsequently, the child or adolescent and his or her family group may move into new balance characterized by good self-control and adherence to treatment, or deepen individual and group disorders which may reappear, especially in adolescence. The comprehensive treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus requires addressing these aspects through multidisciplinary teams which include medical and psychosocial professionals. This review analyses the main aspects related to the psychosocial impact of diabetes mellitus type 1 among children, adolescents and their families mental. A substantial amount of behavioral science research has demonstrated that psychosocial factors play an integral role in the management of diabetes in both children and adults. Research has also shown how psychosocial therapies that can improve regimen adherence, glycemic control, psychosocial functioning, and quality of life.

Inflammation of the central nervous system cause postoperative delirium (POD), it is due to systematic inflammation induced by surgery. This can be known after experiments with animals. Memory impairment and neutralizing antibodies may be caused by the high-morbidity cluster box protein. This may decrease postoperative memory decline in experiments on adult rats. Recently, it is known that POD can increase the incidence of morbidity and mortality in postoperative patients. Prehabilitation is highly recommended for POD. However, the use of VR can be an option for elderly patients, patients with cognitive impairment and stroke. VR is also a hope for the population. This study is also very important to test VR Neuroprehabilitation for the prevention of POD in certain populations.

The impact of general anesthesia on cognitive impairment is controversial and complex. A large body of evidence supports the association between exposure to surgery under general anesthesia and the development of delayed neurocognitive recovery in a subset of patients. Existing literature continues to debate whether these short-term effects on cognition can be attributed to anesthetic agents themselves or whether other variables are causative of the observed changes in understanding. Furthermore, there are conflicting data on the relationship between anesthesia exposure and the development of long-term neurocognitive disorders or incident dementia in the patient population with normal preoperative cognitive function. Patients with pre-existing cognitive impairment present a unique set of anesthetic considerations, including potential medication interactions, challenges with cooperation during assessment and non-general anesthesia techniques, and the possibility that pre-existing cognitive impairment may impart a susceptibility to further cognitive dysfunction.
