Based on research on the deployment of a community Internet network in 2019 and 2020 in a rural community of Córdoba, Argentina, the collaboration strategies between organizations to produce technological and political knowledge are analyzed. The compatibility between the approaches of technological sovereignty and food sovereignty; the education-action methodology in the territory, face-to-face, collective and experiential; cooperation during the maintenance and extension of the network; articulation with other community networks and incidence on politics stand out.

This article analyzes the contribution of mobile device applications to political discourse in the US presidential election between Joe Biden and Donald Trump in 2020. The sample consisted of 101 applications (apps) and the analysis was based on a qualitative methodology that examined the popularity and discourse features of these apps. The results reflect a wide range of developments that oscillate between commercial interest and a form of blurred political engagement located somewhere across entertainment, parody and virality.

The essay presents the need to incorporate the affective and bodily dimension in communication research. The theoretical perspective is framed in the “Affective Turn” and in the studies on corporeality, from which is presented a proposal of conceptual articulation between body, communication, and emotions. The methodological strategy is based on documentary research and interpretation. The essay provides elements to think about human communication from a point of view that transcends the media and integrates the corporal and the affective as basic axes.

Based on a 2019 survey conducted before Bogota’s mayoral elections by the Universidad de La Sabana’s Media Observatory, we seek to identify the nature and characteristics of the transformation of the political culture that led to the election of Claudia López, the first female mayor in the city’s history, and their impact on political affection/disaffection among voters. An electorate mobilized more by causes than parties seems to break from a scenario of institutional distrust and misinformation, generating results that show a change in the pattern of electoral behavior of Bogota’s citizens.

Political engagement and disaffection patterns are analyzed among four relevant groups of citizens based on their levels of partisanship and cognitive mobilization. The results reveal significant differences between groups, with those with a higher degree of cognitive mobilization (cognitive partisans and apartisans) exhibiting superior levels of internal political efficacy and less political apathy than groups with low values on this variable (ritual partisans and apoliticals).

Campaign coverage would prefer strategic game and personalization topics more than public policy proposals. Instead, electoral debates on television are expected differentiate from the journalistic routine. Through a content analysis, the journalists’ agenda in four Chilean presidential debates is compared with that of the written press in the coverage of the respective campaigns. The results show that journalists in the debates focus on public policies, while the press concentrates on strategies or political issues.

The covid-19 pandemic has impacted the digital public sphere considerably, causing influencers to reflect on their work and social responsibilities. Users and virtual communities have articulated the need for information to be provided to them on informal political spaces characterized by the coexistence of leisurely and entertainment activities. This exploratory qualitative study is based on in-depth interviews of 13 Peruvian influencers with varying levels of influence and hailing from different regions. Such an exploration facilitates an understanding of the influencers’ coping strategies in this scenario as well as their perspectives as media citizens. We conclude that the relationship between influencers and their communities can assume high levels of civility and social commitment in a critical context; such a relationship is further enhanced by means of content that integrates information and entertainment.
