The article presents a content analysis with a bibliometric approach of post-truth and fake news to determine their thematic presence in scientific communication journals in Ibero-America. The theoretical, methodological and conceptual contributions of post-truth and fake news are analyzed with a sample of N = 46 articles published in 17 journals specialized in communication (WoS, esci and Scopus) between 2000 and 2019. The country with the highest publication on post-truth and fake news is Spain, the prevailing research approach is quantitative, establishing semantic associations with the media, technological and informational ecosystem and disinformation.

We examined the dominant substantive and affective attributes in 358 news items related to water and waste management in Colombia over five years. The results revealed that the studied texts focused more on the existence of attributes of environmental problems and on positive emotions related to good management practices, than on the effects and solutions. These results explore how Agenda-Setting theory can provide practical guidance for journalists to rethink their environmental coverage from a normative perspective.

In this paper we present research into narratives on immigrants and immigration, to identify cases of hate speech on the part of political parties against immigrants on Twitter during the 2019 and 2021 electoral campaigns in the Community of Madrid. Using Critical Discourse Analysis, the results confirm the exponential increase by all parties in discussion on the issue of immigration and that the political agenda and public discourse is increasingly framed by hate speech towards unaccompanied minors and undocumented migrants.

The objective of this article is to analyze journalists’ overt and covert resistances. Drawing on the typology of resistance of Hollander and Einwohner, as well as fieldwork in one Mexican journalism’s capitals, Tijuana, four types of resistance are examined: 1) to relations of deference, 2) to information blocking, 3) to workloads, and 4) to editorial censorship. These strategies are intermingled and allow what organizational structures often prevent: a socially relevant investigative journalism.

This study aims to analyze whether Social Identity Model for Collective Action (SIMCA) variables mediate the relationship between social media use and environmental collective action. The research used a multivariate correlation design, based on the SEM(Structural Equation Modeling) analysis, with a sample of 259 Peruvian university students. Group efficacy was found to mediate the relationship between the use of social media and habits against climate change. In addition, morale, anger, identification with activists, and group efficacy were found to partially mediate the relationship between social media use and online collective action against climate change. It is concluded that the connection between social media and collective action varies depending on the type of environmental collective action.

The aim of this study is to determine the elements that form the transmedia storytelling universe of MasterChef in order to examine whether it has a structured model that can be applied to other cases. For this, the fundamental lines of debate on transmedia narrative universes are combined, establishing possible contributions to this field. An interdisciplinary analysis of MasterChef allows us to extrapolate a defined narrative model that combines interactive elements, fiction-reality fusion and the production of valuable content that extends the formula to new formats and other countries, maintaining audience interest despite the passage of time.

The non-confirmation to vexed societal gender norms places trans identities in an abjected state. Media, mainly cinema, plays an indispensable role in shaping, shunning, and promulgating such ideologies. To understand this discourse, the Malayalam films Ardhanaari (2015) and Njan Marykutty (2018) are taken to examine the question of “abjection”, a concept by Kristeva, and “doing gender”, by West and Zimmerman. The study argues that the abjection trans identities face forces them to perform their gender in accordance with cisnormative femininity. The study further argues that trans identities should embrace abjection and employ it as a political tool to disrupt the established hegemonic traditional gender structure and its definitions.

The purpose of this study is to analyze how the video game industry has reinvented the way entertainment content is consumed during the lockdown; specifically, we will study the case of Fortnite. The methodological approach is qualitative, supported by content analysis and discourse analysis of Spanish digital media articles and news. The results reveal three elements that favour innovation in the video game industry: the development of novel content, in-game events, and added value in the players' experience.

This research analyzes the content of 416 fake news items identified during the first half of 2021 by Maldita.es and Newtral.es, from Spain, and Colombiacheck and La Silla Vacía, from Colombia. The results show that the majority of the authors of fake news are anonymous, and that this especially harms the current governments and other public officials. The interests of the promoting actors are political-governmental, political-institutional and reputational. The study also asked about the topics, formats and distribution channels of fake news.

The article analyzes the historiographical production about the Cuban printed press of the 20th century. The documentary review confirmed a diversity of theoretical-methodological approaches. From volumes attached to anecdotes, one goes on to texts that try to explain the interdependencies between journalistic production and the context of the complex Cuban 20th century. The still incipient state of studies on the history of the press on the island is confirmed. This review makes it possible to publicize the most important works carried out in recent years and suggest topics that urgently need to be investigated.
