Digital media have enhanced the user-media-content relationship. Now the challenge for cyberjournalism is to encourage audience participation and engagement, which is why interactivity is essential. To distinguish between the types of interactivity that can be applied in journalism, we analyzed 23 publications from the world’s most subscribed cybermedia. We found that the most used types of interactivity are personalization and social. But generative and navigational interactivity, with augmented reality and immersion, are almost non-existent, thus being challenges for the sector.

This paper analyzes the fictional brand Wonka through the use of the reverse product placement tool. It has an exploratory-descriptive methodology that has required a bibliographic review and in-depth interviews with the experts responsible for the brand. The results illustrate its treatment in the market reflecting on its transmedia identity. In this way, a vision on the application of this technique is constructed through the study of a case of an advertising practice that has been little investigated in the academic field.

In the present study, ten focused interviews were conducted where female university professors from Argentina, the United States and Mexico read news articles in newspapers about Cristina Fernández, Hillary Clinton and Margarita Zavala, respectively. Seven ways in which journalistic messages were stylistically and discursively deconstructed were found, among which are the questioning of editorial decisions, as well as evidencing how the ideology of the newspaper generated a specific treatment with the intention of manipulating audiences.

During election campaigns the mass media favor political debate, giving relevant issues a particular framing. In this coverage the use of the conflict frame stands out, and although it usually presents politics as an exercise of confrontation and attack, it can also show it as a process of discussion and the exchange of opinions. A content analysis was conducted on television and press news during the 2018 presidential and the 2021 federal legislative elections in Mexico. The findings confirm the existence of two differentiated frames, that of “conflict” and that of “discussion and political agreement”. Furthermore, a connection between the two frames was detected in the media coverage of the campaigns.

This article discusses the use of Facebook in relation to grief by women who have lost a loved one. Qualitative research was carried out using a phenomenological-hermeneutic method, in which 29 bereaved women were interviewed. The results indicate that Facebook is a platform for emotional expression and for seeking support. This research contributes to the understanding of communicative practices in digital media, which blur the boundaries between what is private and public during moments of crisis.

Brands have chosen different ways of generating value; from models based on attributes, benefits and value, to taking critical political positions and embracing social causes, known as Wokebranding. Based on the collection of primary data and from a qualitative and exploratory perspective, this research helps to understand the state of the art of this trend in Chile. The case study shows the difficulties for a rapid adoption of this type of tendency in the context of a weakened industry. This study tries to contribute to the scarce academic attention that has been put to these topics in Latin America.

From an analysis of the fundamental volume in the field of communication research “Ferment in the Field” (1983), we have obtained ideas, that is, perspectives, functions, objectives and objects of study from which to develop communication research, ideas that transcend the conception of communication and of media as isolated elements, allowing the development of a communicative perspective aimed at generating more democratic environments.

The objective of paper is to study the progression of the Colombian film industry and the birth of its film policy. By analyzing the new laws and the distribution of funds around the Proimágenes Program of the Ministry of Culture we identify that the creation of the Ministry of Culture (1997) and the Mixed Fund for Film Promotion-Proimágenes is the first milestone, followed and complemented by the Film Law (2003) that institutes the Film Development Fund (FDC) and the Film Law (2012), which attracts foreign companies and approves the Colombia Film Fund (FFC).

The current paper presents a study on the subtitling for the deaf and hard-of-hearing (SDH) in Spanish TV news programs (live and semi-live subtitling). The aim of this reception study is to analyze users’ comprehension and assessment of live and semi-live SDH. A contemporary corpus comprising items from real news broadcasts was used for the research, and a sample of 52 deaf and hard-of-hearing participants was recruited for the experiment, which was carried out through a variety of virtual and live sessions. The results show that users consider the quality of SDH acceptable and audiovisual comprehension insufficient.

A typology of modalities for the formulation of research questions was applied to analyze 61 research papers that studied media, published during a period of five years in the journal Comunicación y Sociedad. The objective was to identify how research questions are constructed regarding the literature review. The results show that inquiry based on gap-spotting prevails and fewer studies confront or question previous knowledge.
