A tri-pole filter is proposed as a video integrator for scanning radar. Coefficients optimization of the tri-pole filter is carried out via genetic algorithm (GA) which evaluates the fitness of individual using a new function in time-domain. The tri-pole filter requires only 0.1 dB increase in signal-to-noise ratio to provide the same detection capability as the optimum integrator. Moreover, it has better stability than two-pole filter because the distance between its poles and unit circle is further. The tri-pole filter is analyzed and it is shown that its performance is superior to that of the two-pole filter.

The energy transformation from electromagnetic wave (EMW) to surface plasmons which achieve total absorption of EMW in overdense plasma is investigated by using the theory of hydrodynamics in the thin cylinder limit and surface wave resonator (SWR). The experiment scheme of Bliokh [Phys. Rev. Lett. 95, 165003 (2005)] is improved. Through analyzing the frequency domain spectrum of the reflected wave, the time series of reflection, transmission and plasma density are diagnosed when the electromagnetic wave is transferring into the surface wave (SW).

Recent demonstrations of two dimensional planar Left-handed Materials (LHM) using periodically inductor-capacitor (L-C) loaded transmission Lines, presented by G V. Eleftheriades, Ashwin K. Iyer, and Peter C. Kremer, consist of series impedance Z constituted by capacitors CL and shunt admittance Y constituted by inductors LL (usually formed by vias). In this paper, we propose an alternative representation of planar TL LHM, called series TL LHM. It consists of only series capacitances, series inductors, and no shunt inductors or vias, so it can be more compact and planar, hence easily fabricated. Circuit analysis and full-wave field simulations illustrating its unusual properties, such as the negative refraction and phase compensation of propagating waves, the growth of evanescent waves, are also presented.

The paper studies the propagation characteristics of UHF radio wave in circular tunnels, rectangular tunnels, arched tunnels, ellipse tunnels, trapezium tunnels and semi-circle tunnels. A conclusion is made that trapezium tunnels and semi-circle tunnels can equivalent with circular tunnels with the same area of cross sections; these tunnels have a same formulation of attenuation rate though their cross section is different. The larger the area of cross sections is, the lower attenuation rate is, and the shape of cross sections affects on attenuation rate too. When the diameter or the larger side is larger than about fifteen times the free-space wavelength, attenuation rate is very low and hardly related to the shape of cross sections, and doesn't severely depend on area of cross sections of tunnel any more, and the wave can be looked upon transmitting at free space.

A new research about time difference direction finding system based on the single-channel model for ultra-wideband (UWB) signal is described in this paper. In contrast to multiple-channel, the single-channel direction finding system is provided with lower cost, smaller size, and better mobility. Also the character of time difference is high precision, quick direction finding .etc. [3] A new single channel modal is proposed. The research also shows that precision of the single-channel direction finding system based on time difference approaches multiple-channel one.

The paper is concerned with the electromagnetic scattering from a three-dimensional inhomogeneous dielectric object. In particular, the paper compares the use of a buffered block forward backward (BBFB) algorithm to the use of the commonly employed weak form of the CG-FFT method for the numerical solution of the resultant electric field integral equation (EFIE). The BBFB method is based on the spatial segmentation of the dielectric into smaller pieces. Results are shown which illustrate the convergence of the algorithm and its superior performance to the CG-FFT.

A new radial three-cavity structure of the coaxial virtual cathode oscillator is proposed and studied numerically in this paper. Using the radial three-cavity structure, the beam-wave conversion efficiency is enhanced by modulating the E-field in the beam-wave interaction area, whereas the resonator composed of the radial three-cavity configuration and the mesh anode helps restrain mode competition efficiently. Also, the output microwave power is improved by the coaxial extraction structure in respect that it benefits the energy extraction and it can also absorb the used electrons entering into the drifting tube. With an electron beam of 400 kV and 50 kA, a peak instantaneous power about 6 GW is achieved by simulation at 4.14 GHz. The peak period-averaged power reaches 2.45 GW and the beam-wave conversion efficiency is about 12%. The output microwave has high mode purity and narrow bandwidth.

This paper compared the performances of Lidar system using telescope with TA (telescope array). The different performances including antenna gain and pattern of telescope and TA are given in this paper. The analyses results show that TA is better than telescope in Lidar system. A new modified helix antenna is introduced which combines the helix and monopole together and forms improved current distribution. The character makes it more convenient for gain improvement and size reduction. The antenna is designed and simulated with Ansoft HFSS which is based on Finite Element Method (FEM). According to the rule, some models are fabricated for use on two-way radio. The measured results are presented and prove the theory efficient.
