The effective-medium theory is extended to calculate the equivalent dielectric constants of hollow spheres. The Maxwell-Garnett, inverted Maxwell-Garnett, and Monecke rules are adopted to investigate the hollow ice spheres. Compared with P. Yang's paper, very different Maxwell-Garnett and inverted Maxwell-Garnett formulas but identical mean permittivity values are presented. In order to verify the validity of effective-medium theory in Mie scattering calculation of hollow dielectric spheres, n-layered Mie solution is adopted to calculate the scattering of hollow ice spheres. The mean permittivity values are used in common Mie scattering calculation of uniform sphere. By comparison, it is evident that the effective-medium theory is suitable for small size parameters. For size parameter is about ten, the effective theory is suitable for a very thin hollow ice sphere. At last, it is pointed out that the effective-medium theory make Mie scattering calculation of hollow spheres easier, and can be extended further to non-uniform and eccentric hollow spheres.

A multi-arm conical spiral wire antenna used in low orbit satellite communications is proposed, which can form cardio or conical patterns by adjusting its geometrical parameters. It has better polarization characteristic than the two-arm spiral antenna proposed in the reference. With the increase of its height and spiral constant its beam deviation from the axis increase while its power gain decrease to form conical radiation patterns. Several graphs about the influence of the parameters on radiation patterns are presented in this paper for the optimization of the antenna.

In this paper, compared with genetic algorithm (GA), an improved quantum genetic algorithm (QGA) was proposed, and it was used to calculate the complex excitations, amplitudes and phases of adaptive antenna arrays. The optimization goal is to maximize the output power of the desired signal and minimize the total output power of the interfering signals. Simulation results show that the improved QGA has better performance than existing GA.

A new method based on time-gating technique for correcting phase errors caused by flexing cable is introduced, which can be used in planar near-field test systems. It was shown by simulation and experiments that this method is valid on X band and could be easily put into practice.

An airborne identification system is designed, which has been named airborne synthesized friend or foe and electronic countermeasure system (ASIFFC) and incorporates technology of identification friend or foe (IFF) and electronic countermeasure. ASIFFC uses the coordination type IFF technology and the non- coordination type IFF technology, and it has independent capability in identification and tracking. ASIFFC presents a plan that is the combination application of many kinds of identification technology, and it is development trend of IFF technology. In the article, firstly, it carries on the system design to ASIFFC. Secondly, subsystems have been given a minute description. The Sending device of LSID sends radio frequency inquiry signal to the goal object which has been locked by the radar. The receiving device of LSID receives reflection signal of goal object. The LSID is carried on IFF on the basis of the receiving or sending signals. The pattern identification device (PID) withdraws the image information of a goal object and contrasts them with the data in the image database and distinguishes the friend and foe attribute of object. The dual identification technology enormously enhanced the identification reliability.

A new microwave hyperthermia antenna that isn't sensitive to neither its parameters nor fluctuation of the inputting frequency is presented in this paper. The finite element method was used to simulate the distributions of the electromagnetic fields and the specific absorption rate (SAR) of the Archimedes planar spiral antenna in phantom muscle tissues. The factors that affect the antenna performance including spiral wire's diameter, space of adjacent spiral circle and circle numbers are compared.

This paper introduces the propagator method (PM) to 2-D direction of arrival (DOA) estimation for uniform circular arrays (UCA). Two kinds of PM are presented, PM-ESPRIT and PM-MUSIC. Both operate in beamspace and require no eigen-decomposition calculation, therefore reduce the computational load significantly. PM-ESPRIT, which has natural pair matching structure, can provide accurate searching starts for PM-MUSIC, after introducing a new random process with zero mean. PM-MUSIC, based on real-valued beamspace manifold, achieves high resolution in 2-D DOA estimation for incoherent signal sources and has a better performance in dealing with the highly coherent sources than UCA-RB-MUSIC.

In this paper, the fast and efficient method based on MOM is proposed for the analysis antenna with bodies of revolution. The Fourier series is as the base function along the direction of revolution, the order of matrix is efficiency reduced. The FFT transform is used to avoid singularity. Take the wire antenna mounted on a finite solid conducting cylinder as an example, the impedance characteristics and radiation pattern is computation, The good agreement that numerical data obtained using above analysis are compared with those of CST soft shows the method is efficient.

Applying smart antennas to an OFDMA system is investigated. A simple resource allocation scheme for array-antenna based OFDMA systems is proposed. The resource allocation algorithm is applied to the pilot data when no beam is formed and channel estimation in frequency-domain is implemented. After piloting, a beam is formed for each user to enhance the performance of the system. Simulations based on the SUI channel model according to the standard of IEEE 802.16e WMAN are carried out to examine the performance of the proposed approach.
