This article presents the results so far of a research project that brings together the fields of teaching graphic representation and architectural design. The project employs an integrative approach for training in representation, aligned with the concern regarding the functionality of buildings in the face of environmental issues, based on the study of complex geometries that are adopted in reference works. Based on the structured notion of knowledge (techniques, technologies and theories), by Yves Chevallard, analysis activities are developed for works conceived with such geometries together with the discourses of their architects, aiming to understand the relationships they have with the aspects of sustainability. The results refer to the explanation of this knowledge in theoretical and technological terms, to support representation activities, especially with parametric modeling techniques, to be inserted in architecture training.

In another phase, we would rely on the idea of participation in self-construction; a viable alternative for its implementation, approaching a human sense of a technical-scientific basis. In this way, populations in situations of social vulnerability who inhabit these unused spaces could participate in the process of temporary intervention and understand the importance of preserving the history of the city.

Buildings with raw earth have a long tradition and wide application in several countries. However, the high density of many of the more common techniques can be disadvantageous. This article intends to discuss experiments carried out using the light earth technique, a mixture of earth (or lime), natural fibers and water, with final densities equal to or less than 800 kg/m³. The methodology used for the research was that of experimentation with various traces of earth and lime, natural fibers and water, this practical process was based on the experience of the team members and in the bibliographies, MINKE (2022), NITZKIN (2016) and VOLHARD (2016), which helped in the procedures of the experiments and in the understanding of the potentialities and possible applications. It is concluded that building systems with light earth have the potential to mitigate some of the disadvantageous characteristics of building with raw earth, mainly with regard to the decrease in density.

Digitization, transforming manual processes into digital ones, is a current trend and there are indications that it is an option to help achieve environmental goals, especially at Universities; replacing manual processes with the use of offset paper by digital processes. In view of this, this research analyzed the environmental impact of the consumption of A4 offset paper at the Faculty of Engineering of Unesp in Bauru (FEB), through the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), after the implementation of the digitization of processes, in the period of COVID-19 pandemic. The main results indicate that the reduction in offset paper consumption contributed to a 74% decrease in impacts on climate change, freshwater ecotoxicity and energy consumption in the analyzed Faculty.

The article identifies relations between the design of the Centro Cultural São Paulo (1975-1982) by Eurico Prado Lopes and Luiz Telles, with a new sensibility that emerges from the sixties onwards, driven by criticism of the consumer society, the energy crisis of seventies and the growing ecological awareness. From the identification of these relationships, theoretical and disciplinary propositions by Vittorio Gregotti, Kenneth Frampton and Stan Allen are summoned and discussed as markers of changes in design concepts and postures that progressively incorporate environmental concerns and sustainability issues. Some projects that demonstrate the parallelism of this ecological awareness in Brazil and abroad are selected and the multiple faces of its expression in contemporary architecture are analyze.

This article presents the partial results of the extension project “Flores do Barro: mapping and ideation of the handicraft production chain” which aims to propose, through design and its dialogical character, strategies for valuing resources for the production and commercialization of the ceramist group Flor do Barro in Alto do Moura, Caruaru - Pernambuco - Brazil. The work method used was designed based on the Handicraft Productive Chain Analysis Model, developed by the Laboratório de Design O Imaginário/UFPE, to collect information from the actors involved in the stages: identification of the raw material; production processes and market access. As a result, we can identify obstructions and/or bottlenecks in relation to "knows how to do" practices, as well as opportunities to improve the approach to other market niches with an emphasis on the creative and productive capacity of the community.

One of the Sustainable Development Goals for the millennium refers to sustainable cities and communities that includes, by 2030, providing all inhabitants with universal access, among other goals. To do so, it is necessary a more equal distribution of these areas within the urban territory to ensure easy access to them. This article aims to analyze the distribution of these spaces in the western region of Santa Maria city, RS, with about 285,000 inhabitants. The analysis is based on the location of areas officially considered as squares and parks by the municipality and through their actual conditions that allow or not their fruition. The results demonstrate the unequal distribution of these spaces within the urban territory and, in addition, the various conditions of their attractions and maintenance, indicating the need for attention to ensure their effective use by the inhabitants.

Robotic and biomimetic: science and technical fields are increasingly interdisciplinarity. Inspired by nature, such as imitation or suggestion, many inventions are conceived, developed and materialized. There is a lot of knowledge trough observation, studies on principles, models and process from nature approach. Followed by the proper connections to the research subject, or problems to face, seems to be adequate to borrow from nature some of those tips -already developed and tested-, as a kind of short cut to help us materialize solutions and solve problems. In this paper, design and mechanical development of three robots developed from nature observations are described. The robots G.I.R.I.N.O. and Chico Mendes and Pipe support device.
