: The objective of this study was to record baseline data for the Sliver Sabahia chicken strain and evaluate the effect of sex on the various hemato-biochemical parameters. Total of 40 birds at 33 weeks of age (20 male and 20 female) were used. The hematological profile included hemoglobin (Hb), red blood cells (RBCs), packed cell volume (PCV), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), and white blood cells (WBCs), whereas the biochemical parameters include total protein, globulin, cholesterol, uric acid ―etc.‖ Significantly (p≤0.05) higher, RBC, PCV, and WBC values were recorded in males than females. Total protein, globulin, cholesterol, triglycerides, calcium, uric acid, alkaline phosphatase were significantly (p<0.05) higher in females. The rest of the parameters were not significantly different between the sexes. Interestingly, almost all investigated hematological and blood chemical parameters in these chickens were within range of the recorded reference values of healthy birds. This study concluded a significant effect of sex on various physiological characteristics of the Sliver Sabahia chicken strain. Also, this paper exclusively provided reference values of hematological and blood chemistry for this strain, which help in the breeding programs to produce the commercial egg type strain.

The current work was conducted to reduce the negative effects of increasing stocking density by adding licorice powder to laying hen diets. Also, evaluate the impact of these treatments on productive and physiological performance of Inshas laying hens. A 3x3 factorial design experiment was performed including three stocking densities (6, 9 or 12 birds/m 2 ) with three dietary levels of licorice (0, 0.5 and 1.0 %). A total number of 216 hens of Inshas local strain at 44 weeks of age were randomly distributed into 9 treatment groups with two replicates and housed during the experimental period 44 -56 weeks of age in floor pens with dimensions of 2 × 2 m. The results indicated that increasing stock density to 12 birds/m 2 caused a significant reduction in most of productive performance, fertility and hatchability percentages and blood parameters. Meanwhile, reducing stock density to 6 and 9 birds /m 2 participated in avoiding the negative effect. However, the best results for the previous parameters were exhibited by stocking density at 9 birds / m 2 . Regardless stock density, addition of licorice significantly increased egg production, egg number, egg weight, egg mass and improved feed conversion but feed consumption was not affected. Also, there was significant improvement in fertility and hatchability percentages, egg quality traits (egg shell thickness, Haugh unit score and egg yolk color) and most of blood parameters due to licorice supplementation. The best results were obtained by adding licorice at level of 0.5 %. With regard to the interaction between stock density and licorice addition. It could be observed that, the highest egg production, egg weight, economic efficiency, the best feed conversion and the lowest feed consumption were recorded for hens received 0.5% licorice in their diet with stocking density of 9 birds / m 2 . In addition, the best blood parameter values and the lowest plasma total lipids and LDL concentrations were achieved by the same treatment (0.5% licorice with stocking density of 9 birds/m 2 ). In conclusion, from this study, it can be concluded that adding 0.5% licorice to laying hen diets with stocking density to 9 birds /m 2 was more efficient in improving the performance and economic efficiency increasing of Inshas laying hens.

This study was carried out at the nucleus breeding rabbit farm, Poultry Research Center, Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University. The main objectives of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of crossing between two lines of rabbits under selection programs on the productive performance of cross rabbits. Three genetic groups of rabbits were used in the investigation. Alexandria line (A) as a synthetic paternal line, V line (V) as a synthetic maternal line and crossing between A line males and V line females (AV). The studied traits used to evaluate productive performance in these three genetic groups were individual body weight at weaning and at marketing age (BW4 & BW9), daily weight gain (DWG), daily feed intake (DFI), feed conversion ratio (FCR), viability rate (VR) and economic efficiency (EE). A total number of 493, 1602 and 1123 from V, A and AV rabbits, respectively were used in the investigation. The results showed that AV cross rabbits were heavier than pure line rabbits (AA and VV) for BW at two ages studied and DWG during fattening period. On other words, AV genetic group attained the marketing body weight earlier than other two groups. Also, the value of FCR improved in AV growing rabbits compared with those obtained for AA & VV rabbits. Moreover, the VR during fattening period in AV rabbits was the highest, while the lowest one was recorded in V line rabbits. It is clear apparent from these results that, AV group recorded higher values for EE than the other genetic groups. In conclusion, mating between males of the paternal line A and females of the maternal line V gave a cross that saved time and costs in order to reach marketing.

This study aimed to evaluate the impact of different levels of galangal (Alpinia galanga) supplemented diet on productive performance, lipid profile, biomarkers of antioxidant status, carcass traits, economical efficiency, and production index of broiler chicks. A total of 180 unsexed broiler chicks (Arbor Acres) at an age of seven-day-old chicks were randomly divided into 5 treatments (36 chicks each) divided into 6 replicates (each replicate of 6 chicks). The first group fed the basal diet (control); while the 2 nd , 3 rd , 4 th , and 5 th groups were fed the basal diet supplemented with 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, and 1.00 % galangal, respectively. Data revealed that treatments groups with supplemented different levels of galangal had greater productive performance, economical efficiency, and production index compared to the control group. All treatments with different levels of galangal were decreased total lipids, triglycerides, cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), malondialdehyde (MAD), and increased glucose, thyroid hormones (T3-T4), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) compared to the control group (within normal range). In conclusion, it can be considered that galangal supplementation at 0.25% of diet improved the growth performance and physiological status of broiler without any adverse effects on blood parameters of broiler chicks.

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of different levels of Nigella Sativa meal (NSM) on productive performance and some hematological parameters of laying hens under hot conditions. A total number of 120 laying hens (34 weeks old – Commercial Browne Lohmann LSL) and body weight of 1996.90±18.75 g were used in this study. Chickens were randomly divided into four equal treatments (30 chickens of each). Each treatment was randomly divided into 3 equal replicates (10 chickens of each). The 1 st treatment, chickens fed basal diet and considered as control group (C). The 2 nd , 3 rd and 4 th treatments, chickens were fed diets supplemented with 5, 10 and 15 % NSM, respectively). The results showed that egg weight, egg number and feed conversion were improved (P<0.05) in the laying hens fed 10 and 15 % NSM compared with other groups. However, egg shell thickness was increased (P<0.05) in the hens fed 5, 10 and 15 % NSM compared to control group. Red blood cells and hemoglobin concentration were increased (P<0.05) in the hens fed high level of NSM (15 %) compared to hens in control group. Adding NSM at level 15 % led to significantly decreased in serum total protein, albumin, globulin, glucose and cholesterol when compared with control group. While, creatinine level was significantly increased at level 5 % of NSM compared with other levels of NSM and control group. Using NSM by rate 5, 10 and 15 % in the chicken diets led to a decrease in the cost of feed and this in turn contributed to the improvement of net income/hen. In conclusion, under hot conditions, use Nigella Sativa meal up to level 15 % as a source of alternative feed resources enhancement the productive performance and physiological responses of laying hens.

Forty-five weaning male NZW rabbits at 6 weeks of age and an average weight of 655.6 ± 40 g were assigned randomly into 3 equal groups, fifteen rabbits/each for 8 weeks. The study was executed to evaluate the effect of supplementation green coffee extract (GCE) in diets on rabbit growth performance and physiological response. Rabbits in the 1 st group were received a basal diet as a control. While, the 2 nd and 3 rd groups were received a basal diet supplemented with 2 and 4 ml GCE /kg diet, respectively. The results showed an improvement in the treated groups that were fed diets 2 and 4 ml GCE/ kg diets compared with control. Rabbits fed diets with 4 ml GCE/kg diets recorded significantly (P<0.05) higher body weight gain and better feed conversion ratio during all growth period than the control. Dietary with 4 ml GCE/kg diet was significantly higher in carcass weight and total edible parts (%) than that in the control; it also significantly reduced shoulder and abdominal fat. Supplementation of different levels of GCE to rabbits’ diet achieved significant increase in beneficial bacteria (total bacterial count and lactobacilli counts) and reduction in pathogenic bacteria (E.Coli clostridium spp and ureolytic bacteria). Also, Hemoglobin, RBCs, WBCs and Hematocrite were significantly higher in groups supplemented with GCE than control. There were no significant differences in total protein, albumin, globulin, A/G ratio, liver and kidney functions and plasma lipid profile between all groups. Catalase activity was significantly higher in blood as GCE added to the diet. Meanwhile, all treated groups decreased insignificantly hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) compared to the control group. In conclusion, supplementation of 4 ml GCE/kg diet to NZW growing rabbits improved growth performance, microbial ecology, hematological and biochemical responses and economical efficiency ratio without adverse effects on liver and kidney functions.
