A Practical Approach for Ride Through of Super Capacitor Energy Storage Based ASD System 一种实用的超级电容储能ASD系统穿越方法

A practical ride through scheme bases on super capacitor energy storage system for ASD (adjustable speed drive) equipment is presented in this paper. The topology of ASD discussed adopts AC-DC-AC structure and 12 pulses diode rectifier as input interface. Super capacitor (SC) module connects to inverter DC bus to support DC voltage while power quality problems such as voltage sag or short-term outage take place in power source. A SC energy storage system based 15 kVA ASD prototype was developed. Digital simulation and physical experiments were carried out to verify the correctness and validity of proposed ASD ride through topology and control strategies

Indirect-Lightning Performance of Distribution Lines: Influence of Protection Devices 配电线路的间接防雷性能:保护装置的影响

For an improved assessment of the indirect-lightning performances of distribution systems, the real configuration of the system, which means the topology, the presence of protection devices such as surge arresters and shielding wire/neutral groundings, must be taken into account. In this paper, the indirect lightning performance of a distribution line with realistic configuration is evaluated by means of a statistical procedure based on the Monte Carlo method. Accurate models are used to evaluate the lightning induced overvoltages, in order to estimate the effects of arresters spacing and characteristics. Results relevant to a line length of 100 km, as it is often presented in the power/lightning literature, appear to be not as useful as those relevant to the real system of interest

A centralized system to control distribution capacitors was developed to control and manage capacitors better, more consistently, and cost-effectively. The system is structured on company-developed philosophy and utilizes third-party companies for software creation and communication. The system is in operation and has provided benefits by controlling capacitors based on changes in customer load compared to using proxies such as time and temperature. The development and implementation of the system requires significant work, however, once in place the system enables easier and consistent management of capacitors for the future

Modeling of Flashover on Ice-Covered Insulators with Multi Air Gaps 多气隙覆冰绝缘子的闪络建模

Using a standard porcelain post insulator, the flashover process on an ice surface was simulated and analyzed. Based on the experimental results, a mathematical model for predicting the critical flashover voltage of ice-covered insulators with multi-arcs is presented. The model was applied to a post insulator with a dry arcing distance of 4.17 m, corresponding to the full-scale insulator string used in the Hydro-Quebec 735 kV substations. It was found there is good agreement between the experimental results and those from the mathematical model. The results obtained are helpful for properly selecting the insulators used in cold climate regions

Grid FriendlyTM Appliances - Load-side Solution for Congestion Management 电网友好型tm设备——用于拥塞管理的负载端解决方案

This paper discusses the effectiveness of deploying grid friendlytrade appliances (GFAs) as a load-side solution for congestion management in a competitive electricity market, with a residential house ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) load as an example. A GFA can have a sensor and a controller installed to detect price, voltage, or frequency signals and then adjust its thermostat setpoint or turn on/off according to certain control logics. By using the congestion price as a signal to shift GFA power consumption from high-price periods to low-price periods to reduce load in load pocket areas, transmission line congestion can be successfully mitigated. The magnitude of GFA load reduction and the location of the GFA resources are critical to alleviating congestion on targeted transmission lines while not causing other lines to congest. Simulation results are presented, and the impact of implementing price-responsive GFAs on the power grid is also studied

This paper shows the design of a middleware for IP-based power system communication networks and evaluated results. The middleware ensures the quality of service (QoS) and reliability in three types of communications; mobile agent, message exchange and streaming data. The IP-based networks for power system operation and maintenance enable wide-area remote operation for SCADA and realize remote maintenance for facilities to promote flexible and efficient work. The networks are required to support real-time communications and take measures to avoid overloading and failures. These should ensure QoS and reliability for each application. However, as it is difficult for present IP network equipment to adapt to these requirements, we designed the middleware to satisfy them. We also implemented and evaluated this

The Composite System Reliability Working Group (CSRWG) of the Mid-Continent Area Power Pool (MAPP) and its predecessors have collected outage data for MAPP bulk transmission equipment of 230 kV and higher since 1977. Pool-wide MAPP-United States (MAPP-US) performance statistics are computed and reported annually. These statistics can be used by utilities in different applications in areas related to system performance, operations, maintenance and planning. This paper presents features of the MAPP transmission outage data collection system, selected outage statistics for the 1991-2000 period and applications of outage performance statistics by MAPP utilities

In this paper, a novel real time data compression and reconstruction method is proposed to process a large amount of steady state and transient data of power system. Based on the biorthogonality filters group with the linear wavelet (WT) of lifting scheme and Huffman coding approach, the new algorithm is studied and developed. The field data are used to test the method. The results prove that the method is valid with less data processing time and as high as about 9 times of compression ratio. This method is suitable for the real-time compression of mass data recorded continuously by dynamic monitoring devices of electric power system

Power System Impedance Estimation for Improved Active Filter Control, using Continuous Wavelet Transforms. 基于连续小波变换的改进有源滤波器控制的电力系统阻抗估计。

As the composition of power systems change, with the increased use of distributed generation, the ability to maintain a secure supply with high power quality is becoming more challenging. The increased use of power electronic converters as part of loading systems provides further problems for power quality by introducing harmonics, voltage dips, etc. It has been shown that knowledge of power system parameters (particularly the net power system impedance to source) at any instant in time is central to addressing these problems. This paper develops a method for ultra-fast real-time on-line power system impedance estimation, which has the potential to enhance the performance of power quality devices, distributed generation and power system protection. Experimental results verify the identification method and demonstrate its use in an active power filter
