In order to provide timely, effective and safe fire support for manoeuvre units, NATO member states agreed to use common procedures when processing fire missions in multi-national operations. The aim of this article was to analyse the possibilities of current national procedures used at the Fire Direction Centre of an artillery unit when processing fire missions adjusted by NATO agreed Target Grid Adjustments. After discovering significant limitations of national procedures, creative analysis was conducted and two analytical and one graphical method of processing adjustments of artillery fire were introduced and described. Suitability and accuracy of these methods were compared and conclusions were drawn for their use in different computing equipment availability conditions.

Through the human existence, human being has been facing to security and safety objectives that are essentials for a man and woman self-fulfilment. Moreover, the security and safety terms are surrounded by environment that creates a habitat for any society progress. In early history, significant meaning of environment was perceived by nature, where individuals were posed to various threats as the natural disasters, wild animals’ attacks or other individuals’ activities. Nowadays, the environment is linked with the local, regional and global security dimensions that are interconnected as if the instability, dynamics and uncertainty characteristics form its size. This paper provides to its reader details about the size of the security environment from perspective of the international organizations, as well it highlights some of the challenges that drives the provision of the Slovak republic security.

One of the problems covered by the theory of artillery indirect fire is the problem of effective engagement of targets. Rules for distribution of fire on area targets set in the Slovak Armed Forces are based on the experience of Czechoslovak artillerymen from the world wars and have remained virtually unchanged for decades. However, the Slovak Republic has been a member of the North Atlantic Alliance since 2004, and fire support systems have also undergone significant development. The aim of the paper is to identify ambiguities and controversial areas in the ways of fire distribution and related issues, to point out inconsistencies with internationally agreed procedures and to formulate proposals to eliminate the shortcomings of the current situation.

Police officers and professional soldiers represent a unique, special, distinctive, and irreplaceable resource, necessary for the successful functioning of the Police Force and the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic — organizations directly involved in ensuring the security and defence of the state and its inhabitants. It is they who, with their work, activities, will and commitment, not only participate in the creation of strategies, intentions, and directions of development of both organizations, but also ensure the fulfilment of their mission and the achievement of set goals. Managing the successful and effective functioning of both armed security corps and achieving the desired results requires the constant development of human resources, their management, motivation and ensuring an adequate quality of life for police officers and professional soldiers and their families — corresponding to the demands and risks arising from the police and military professions. One of the key elements in ensuring a satisfactory quality of life is a special social security system. Therefore, the primary scientific goal of the presented study is a comparative analysis of the current development of opinions of members of the Police Force and the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic on the quality of their lives in terms of their social security benefits.

The terms "fighting power" and "combat power" are directly related to the ability to employ military force. They express the capabilities and possibilities of action capacity of the military force, the scope of which is defined by the mission of the military units. The similarity of the definitions of both terms in the military doctrinal framework creates a condition for confusing the understanding of their different meanings, which causes inefficient use of the offered possibilities of fighting power and combat power and the ability to create their joint synergy to achieve the success. The correct understanding of their differences, but also of their interdependence, could be a key aspect of achieving success in military operations.

In connection with the war conflict in Ukraine,the public perception of security has changed in Slovakia as well, and it isnecessary to pay attention to the state of public opinion in this area. In thisarticle, we will present basic information about the conscription itself and theimportance of voluntariness in the defence of the state, as highlighted by thenew Concept of Preparation of the Population for the Defence of the State,and in the light of the results of the latest public opinion polls of the Ministryof Defence, we will focus in particular on the awareness of the populationabout the conscription, the state of their willingness to defend their country,and the subsequent interpretation of the most significant results.

The article aims to present the nature and typology of terrorist attacks taking into account the contemporary conditions of the security environment of the European Union. The author describes the leading methods, forms and tools of contemporary terrorist attacks carried out on the territory of the Community countries. He bases on the latest reports and analyses of the leading security institutions, both in the national and regional dimensions. These data are complemented by analyses of selected terrorist attacks, which allow us to draw additional conclusions and generalizations. The article is innovative due to the specific approach to the threat of terrorist attacks, allowing the reader to easily recognize the leading methods of terrorist struggle and examples of their use. The value of the article is its topicality and focus on the subject of the modus operandi of perpetrators. Thanks to that, the content of the text may constitute a real source of knowledge on the nature of contemporary attacks and trends in their evolution. Due to the utilitarian character of the content, the text may be addressed both to scientists and practitioners performing tasks in the area of counterterrorist operations. An additional advantage of the work is the use of a wide spectrum of doctrine in the area under study, which translates into the possibility of getting acquainted with a variety of opinions of experts and scientists. In the article, the reader will also find a summary of selected opinions on the development of the phenomenon of terrorism and terrorist attacks, which can be a source of knowledge when designing future anti-terrorism solutions.

Military leadership culture is one of the most influential factors of military leadership and its quality determines the success of leadership. Its value and strength lie in how much the leader believes in it and how much he can convey it. While leadership thinking is a process aimed at problem solving and finding its most appropriate way in the system of tasks, military leadership culture is a complex phenomenon that includes the values that the leader, together with his or her subordinates, creates or nurtures to achieve his or her own goal and the intent of a higher commander. The evolution of leadership culture in a leader is a lengthy process and the goal is to raise it to an appropriate, effective level. Maturity is the key to the leader being able to consciously communicate common values. This is based on a good leadership culture.

The purpose of the article is to point out the importance of the problem and the significance of the topic of the 21” century with all the means necessary to implement force protection conditions against terrorist threats in the United States of America (USA) and in Slovak Republic. The aim of the article is to compare the structure, to define and explain the significance with a clear implementation of force protection conditions (FPCONs) as they are understood in the requirements of the USA and as they are understood in the requirements of the Slovak Republic. At the same time, the aim of the article is to clarify the methods of FPCONs against terrorist threats in the USA and in Slovak Republic, which based on elimination by timely planned processes and prepared FPCONs can be reduced to the required minimum.

The membership of the Slovak Republic in the European Union fundamentally determines the international status of the Slovak Republic, represents the primary environment for the implementation of key interests of the Slovak Republic, provides adequate opportunities to influence international decisions and processes that have an impact on the security and quality of life of the citizens of the Slovak Republic. As a member of the European Union, the Slovak Republic participates in the processes of creating all European policies including the Common Foreign and Security Policy.
