Space-based radar signal processing baselines for air, land and sea applications 用于空、陆、海应用的天基雷达信号处理基线

Space-based radar can provide wide-area surveillance and theatre defence against targets in the air, on land, and at sea. This paper describes the airborne and ground-moving target indication problems, and examines environmental and system issues that impact space-based radar design. Radar design and signal processing techniques are presented that help target detection in the presence of clutter, jamming, and noise. Cost-performance trade-offs are used to derive radar signal processing baselines (configurations) that are proposed as candidate solutions.

Short-range surveillance radar systems 近程监视雷达系统

Small, light-weight, coherent radar systems have been successfully exploited in the military domain for many years. Recent advances in both technology and signal processing techniques are enabling the production of more versatile systems aimed at a wider range of applications spanning both the military and civil markets. In this paper the fundamental design concepts underpinning this class of radar are briefly introduced to place in context current and emerging technical developments. The relationships between these developments, an increasing range of future potential applications and the areas of most significant technical challenge are discussed.

Cellular mobile radio communication systems are evolving towards the provision of high-capacity, high-quality voice and data services inside confined environments such as buildings. The systems deployed will provide capacity and coverage over small geographical areas such as an office floor, Such systems are referred to as being `picocellular' in the context of cellular mobile telephony. This paper provides an overview of the channel characteristics, planning and deployment of picocellular systems, which in general differ from those of macro- and microcellular systems.

Gigabit Ethernet and structured cabling 千兆以太网和结构化布线

In today's commercial environment, many organisations depend upon their local-area networks (LAN) and information technology infrastructure for growth, competitiveness and also for sharing of resources, information and applications. More and more users are being networked to provide connectivity to an increasing number of complex and mission-critical corporate applications. More than 80% of the installed network connections were Ethernet by the end of 1996, making it the most popular networking technology in use today. Fast and Gigabit Ethernet have become the leading choices for high-speed LANs. As the use of Fast Ethernet connections to the desktop increases, an even higher speed networking technology at the backbone and server level will be required. Hence, early implementation of Gigabit Ethernet technology will be in high-speed backbones, server connections and specialised workgroups. The total shipments of Gigabit Ethernet products for 1999 exceed 1.5 million ports. This paper describes the Gigabit Ethernet technology, its design and cabling requirements.

A vision of UMTS/IMT-2000 evolution UMTS/IMT-2000演进展望

A vision is presented for a fully IP-based mobile network which goes beyond UMTS/IMT-2000. A top-to-bottom design approach is introduced that is capable of offering new and innovative services and applications to both fixed and mobile users efficiently, cost effectively and in a user-friendly manner. Some issues and examples in the design steps following this new approach are discussed. It is clearly shown that the convergence of mobile and fixed networks will be achieved naturally through the use of an 'all IP' based solution for both access and core networks.

Advanced base station technologies for UTRAN UTRAN的先进基站技术

To achieve high capacity and to support high-data-rate services in the terrestrial access network (UTRAN) of the third generation Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), it is essential to employ some advanced transceiver techniques at the base stations. Three such techniques are presented: adaptive antennas, multistage parallel interference cancellers and a new hybrid scheme. The operation principles and some simulation results of the techniques are given and some challenging implementation issues are discussed.

W-CDMA capacity and planning issues W-CDMA容量和规划问题

Third generation (3G) mobile networks are due to become reality in the next few years as governments world-wide start to auction or 'release' new spectrum to new and existing cellular operators. A major differentiation of 3G over second generation networks is the provision of multiple-data-rate services, higher spectrum efficiency and greater flexibility of the air interface. This paper addresses FDD W-CDMA planning and capacity estimation issues. As well as addressing the planning steps, link budgets and simplistic uplink capacity estimation the paper goes into more detail on simulation methods and considerations. Finally an example W-CDMA network, based on realistic site locations in central London, is provided. Capacity estimations are given with some indications of network stability and operating points.

As the introduction of third generation (3G) mobile communications systems is expected to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary it is vital to establish a solid business case for 3G. The old business model of 'coverage, coverage, coverage' will evolve to one of 'capacity, capability and content' and a thorough evaluation will have to be made of the volume of expected usage, the value that customers will expect for their money and the variety of services that can be offered. The author discusses the business case for 3G and concludes that it will have to embrace 'my generation' thinking, i.e. the need for equipment and services to be personalised.

Self-organisation in future mobile communications 未来移动通信中的自组织

The concept of self-organisation in wireless networks is introduced. The paper proposes planning and deployment cost, capacity, coverage, flexibility and future potential as the criteria by which wireless topologies and resource management strategies should be validated. It discusses numerous techniques that can be considered as self-organising and evaluates the suitability of these techniques in both macro- and microcellular environments. A standard 4-carrier GSM base station is used as the reference cellular technology. It is demonstrated that, by combining suitable techniques, a potential future capacity increase of one order of magnitude (13 times) is estimated in a microcellular environment. Substantial capacity increments can also be achieved in macrocellular networks. When the cost of both planning and deployment is considered, intelligent relaying together with environment adaptation are shown to perform well and could reduce the cost of future networks to a tenth of their current level.
