Translation of books, articles title and names of films is a rather complex problem. Semantic fullness of the title, its correlation with implicit meanings of the text creates difficulties for translation. The purpose of the article is to analyze some translation strategies of the names of multimodal referential connected texts of animated serials titles. Variants of translation of the names of serial “Smeshariki”, completed in two variants for American stream TV and for the European addressee are analyzed. Relevance of pragmatical translation and the approach to the series name as to a nomination of a commercial product is proved. The article is addressed to experts in the field of a nomination theory, theory and practice of translation and naming.

This paper strives to show the importance of links between culture and politics, which some analysts say has been sadly neglected in contemporary political science. The theoretical base for this research includes reference to the ‘degree of acceptance’ of a call to securitise an issue or event. Such a ‘degree of acceptance’ of a securitisation issue or event, it is argued, may vary because of differing cultural norms in different countries. Transculturism, which advocates, in broad terms, seeing the ‘we’ in the ‘other,’ is also discussed in terms of identifying a theory which reifies culture as being of fundamental importance to global security. The measurement of alterations in the political views, over time, of western expatriates working and living in Russia is used as a case study. The tense East-West political environment at the time of writing this paper provides a sufficiently contrasting political climate within which any alterations of political orientation of western expatriates who took part in the research could be observed. Research showed that the political orientation of expatriates did not change in a ‘black and white’ way, however expatriates seem to develop and assimilate a second political identity, which gives them a meaningful (for them) alternative point of view on Russia and global security in general.

This article is devoted to a collocation as a translation unit. From various definitions of collocation we chose as the basis for the study the following: a collocation is a statistically stable word combination consisting of two and more words, one of which is translated and the others are restricted and dependent on the choice of the former, composing a set of meaning and a set of translations. The author considers different types of collocations and a possibility of their translation into a foreign language. Occasional collocations are not frequently present in the corpus and can not be checked via corpora while translating, that is why they are of special interest. The author collected a set of examples with this type of collocation and showed the possibility of their translation using corpora and functional-semantic analysis. It helps to estimate objectively the mistakes made by the translator and to present the semantically correct variants of translation.
