Ethnomedicinal plants used by the rural people of Aryanadu, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala 喀拉拉邦 Thiruvananthapuram 的 Aryanadu 农村居民使用的民族药用植物

In this study, a total of 28 medicinal plant species from 23 families were identified, all of which are commonly used by the villagers of Aryanadu, Thiruvananthapuram. These 28 plants were used to make 40 different herbal remedies. The Asclepiadaceae family was frequently used (4 remedies from 3 species), while the Acanthaceae, Euphorbiaceae, and Solanaceae families each contributed 9 remedies from 6 species. Most of the remedies were used to treat respiratory problems such as colds, coughs, asthma, and fever (12 remedies from 7 species). Adhatoda zeylanica and Vitex negundo (5 remedies) were two of the most commonly used plants in the preparation of medicines for the treatment of respiratory problems. Six home remedies for stomach aches, while four for skin problems were observed in the present study. According to the findings of this study, the villagers of Aryanadu rely on wild plant resources for their personal medical care and suggest that potential medicinal plants could be grown in their backyards to supplement their needs. The information gathered from the indigenous community is expected to aid in the development of new herbal formulations.

Cancer chemoprevention and healthy lifestyle 癌症化学预防和健康的生活方式

A growing body of evidence suggests that chronic low-grade inflammation and oxidative stress may lead to cancer development. These discoveries complement the usual focus of cancer prevention that primarily concentrates on carcinomas, i.e., ectodermal or endodermal (embryonic) tissue-derived cancers, which are more exposed to lifestyle/environment-related risk factors. Based on these findings, cancer preventive strategies can be formulated by using a number of dietary phytochemicals that display inhibitory effects on oxidative stress, inflammation, and other tumor-linked phenomena such as angiogenesis, cell proliferation, and DNA damage. Overall, a positive lifestyle and healthy food habits can reduce cancer risk.

A detailed quality control assessment of polyherbal pain reliever cream 中药镇痛乳膏的详细质量控制评价

Musculoskeletal injuries are most common risk factors for sport persons. Pain and swelling are the most common associated symptoms of such injuries. A use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) has been routine in the management of musculoskeletal inflammation and pain. Although effective at reducing pain and inflammation, NSAIDs may not be appropriate to use frequently or longer time due to their known side effects. Herbal and Ayurveda products are widely perceived as safe due to their natural origin and long historical clinical use. Hence in the present study, different quality control parameters for raw material and finished product (polyherbal pain reliever cream) were evaluated like Acid value, Saponification Value, Free fatty acid determination, Viscosity, Specific gravity, Refractive index, Moisture content, Analysis of heavy metals performed. Finger printing profile for the Oils which includes raw ingredients & finish products both. All data from results suggest that cream and its composition were consistent with various quality and purity parameters such as organoleptic characters, physicochemical parameter, fingerprinting analysis, Quantification of methanol in formulation, Heavy metal analysis and Microbial analysis.

This work aimed to justify the traditional use of the recipe based on Eriosema erici and Neoboutonia mülleri in the treatment of gastric ulcers. The ulcer was induced by the HCl/ethanol mixture. To elucidate the antiulcer mechanism; the effect of the aqueous (300 and 600 mg/kg) and hydroethanolic (300 and 600 mg/kg) extracts was evaluated on lipid peroxidation, the production of antioxidant enzymes, the release of nitric oxide. At the doses used, the extracts of the recipe significantly reduced gastric lesions. In addition, they showed an antioxidant effect not only by inhibiting the ferric reducing power but also by opposing lipid peroxidation and improving the expression of antioxidant factors by increasing the production of catalase (CAT), glutathiones (GSH; GPx), super oxide dismutase (SOD). This coupled with a nitrogen effect. The phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids, tannins, terpernoids which could justify the antiulcer and antioxidative effect observed.

Today is the era of bioinformatics as it uses mathematical algorithms to do DNA sequence alignment to protein structure prediction and drug designing making biological research easier. Biological research has generated lots of databases may it be in form of gene sequences, protein sequences or metabolic pathways across various species. These databases are huge and without bioinformatics one can does not make sense out of it. Bioinformatics provides wide range of tools to deal with all the queries raised in biological research and to find a solution to it. In this article we tried to compile all such freely available tools as well as biological databases, one can have ease to access them and have promising prospects in the area of biological research.

Diversity and perception of medicinal plants used by the Costa Rican population 哥斯达黎加人口使用的药用植物的多样性和认知

Medicinal plants have become an important source for the treatment of various diseases. In Costa Rica, a survey conducted with 132 people identified the use of 107 medicinal plants, of which only 34% are native. The health disorders for which medicinal plants are mainly used are gastrointestinal and respiratory problems. The most commonly used medicinal plant species are Matricaria chamomilla, Lippia alba, and Zingiber officinale . The family of plants with the highest number of species used as medicine is Lamiaceae. The majority of surveyed individuals learn about medicinal plants from their family members. A decrease in the number of medicinal plants is observed as the population becomes younger, with this difference being statistically significant between individuals under 40 years old and those over 80 years old. Costa Ricans use medicinal plants to avoid using allopathic drugs that they consider harmful.

The effectiveness and efficacy of Ophiocordyceps sinensis supplementation: A systematic review of randomized clinical trials on healthy humans 补充冬虫夏草的有效性和疗效:对健康人随机临床试验的系统回顾

To critically assess the current evidence from randomized clinical trials performed on healthy human subjects for or against the effectiveness or efficacy of O. sinensis. Randomized studies testing the efficacy and effectiveness of O. sinensis against a placebo, conducted with healthy human subjects were included in this systematic review following The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement (PRISMA). Searches of PubMed, Library of Congress, JISC Library, Clinical Trials.gov, mRCT, Google Scholar, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL, Medline, and Cochrane were conducted. Of the 4,308 potentially relevant articles, 29 full-text articles were reviewed, 7 of which were randomized trials conducted with healthx`y human subjects. All studies were classified as low risk with a total of 286 participants. Of the included studies, 5 noted significant pre/post intergroup differences. 5 results supported the utilization of O. sinensis as a powerful dietary supplement. The effect of supplementation with O. sinensis on aerobic performance could have implications in various athletic events. Insufficient reporting of the details of the O. sinensis preparation utilized is a common issue within included studies. Despite great efforts, there is a possibility not all relevant data was obtained.

Green synthesis of gold nano-conjugates using commonly used citrus species and evaluation of its In-vitro antibacterial efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus: A comparative study 常用柑橘类植物绿色合成金纳米缀合物及其体外抗菌金黄色葡萄球菌的比较研究

Nanotechnology belongs to one of the areas of modern science, demonstrated numerous positive developments in the realm of medical research, basically deals with the particle size ranging between 1-100 nm. Out of so many methods for developing the metal nanoparticles, the green approach for metal nanoparticles preparation is less hazardous, eco-friendly and cost effective. According to various literature studies, plants belonging to Citrus species have enormous potential as anticancer and antioxidant rich food items. Therefore our present research work aims at the Citrus species (lemon, pummelo and the aroma king lemon) mediated Metal nano-particle synthesis followed by their characterization and determining its antibacterial property of against Staphylococcus aureus bacterium. According to the results of physical characterizations, all the three Citrus mediated nanoparticles show UV-Vis spectra within 520-530 nm. And have the particle size generated within 1-10 nm. Several functional groups are present in the produced nanoparticles, according to an FTIR analysis. The in-vitro antioxidant efficacy was maximum shown by the aroma king lemon. This overall results supports the innate antioxidant properties of Citrus species plants that may further supports its reducing property for nanoparticle synthesis.
