The paper reports study of complex structure of matrix emission of undoped and RE-doped PbWO4 crystals. Decomposition of the spectra shows contributions of five components at 410, 485, 520, 565, 635 nm in emission of all the investigated samples. Their relative contributions depend on RE doping. Observed effects of RE doping are the same for the crystals with different RE impurities. Structures of luminescent centres are discussed taking into account studied effects of the impurity RE ions on spectral characteristics of the matrix emission.

Effect of Bi2O3 doping and cold isostatic pressing (CIP ) on the ionic conductivity of the ceramics ZrO2 + 10 mol .% Sc2O3 + 1 mol. % CeO2 was studied. It was established that sintering the Bi2O3 doped ceramic specimens uses the lower temperatures after cold isostatic pressing (value of the sintering temperature was less than 400°C). CIP and sintering regimes (0.6 GPa ; 1100°C at 70 h) of specimens yielded high conductive and dense ceramics (0.028 S cm-1 at 800°C).

It is shown in this work that the observed stripe-like magnetic domain structure in epitaxial iron garnet films possessing small uniaxial magnetic anisotropy cannot be explained as equilibrium stripes divided by 180° domain walls and can be described by the composite domain structure of two-level organization, that consists of stripe-like micro-domains and larger macro-domains and has lower total energy than simple stripe domain structure.

Mixed BGO-BSO (BGSO) scintillation crystals with structure of eulitine are promising for application in high energy physics (HEP) experiments due to low cost, high density, and reasonable light output. This work is focused on optimization of growth parameters and composition of BGSO mixed crystals. BGSO with improved energy resolution up to 16.2% at 662 keV gamma-irradiation was obtained. The effects of recrystallization and post-growth thermal treatment are discussed.

The oxide film formed on the surface of the highly dense (ρ=4.27 g/cm3, porosity 1 %) material based on nanolaminated MAX phase Ti3AlC2 (89 % Ti3AlC2, 6 % TiC, 5 % Al2O3) manufactured by hot pressing (at 30 MPa) made the material highly resistant in air at high temperatures: after 1000 hours of exposition at 600 °C it demonstrated a higher resistance to oxidation than chromium ferrite steels (Crofer GPU and JDA types). Due to the surface oxidation self-healing of defects took place. Besides, the Ti3AlC2 material demonstrated resistance against high-temperature creep and after being kept in H2 at 600 °C for 3h its bending strength reduced by 5 % only. At room temperature the Ti3AlC2 bulk exhibited microhardness Hμ = 4.6 GPa (at 5 N), hardness HV50 = 630 (at 50 N ) and HRA = 70 (at 600 N), Young modulus was 140 ± 29 GPa, bending strength =500 MPa, compression strength 700 MPa, and fracture toughness K1C=10.2 MPa·m0.5.

Weakly agglomerated crystalline nanoparticles of La1-xSrxMnO3 manganites have been synthesized by solgel method, co-precipitation from nonaqueous solutions and microemulsion technique. Structural and magnetic characteristics of the synthesized particles, as well as their heating efficiency under AC electromagnetic fields are studied. The contributions to AC losses resulted from different heating mechanisms are calculated. The directions to enhance the heating efficiency of various kinds of magnetic nanoparticles are outlined.

The sorption properties of acid-modified Transcarpathian clinoptilolite towards Sc(III) under dynamic conditions have been studied. It was found that the most effective acid-modifier is 0.5M HCl solution. Maximal sorption capacity is observed in the previously heat-treated at 50 °C samples of H-clinoptilolite in low alkaline solutions (pH=8.5). At this conditions almost all of the Sc(III) ions are in the form of neutral hydroxo complex [Sc(OH)3(H2O)3]. The sorption capacity of H-clinoptilolite towards Sc(III) ions under optimum conditions is 9.98 mg/g.

Performed is a comparative study of the characteristics of YAG:Ce luminescent converters with single-crystalline, cellular and polycrystalline structure obtained by the method of directed crystallization of the melt. Peculiarities of the structure and surface morphology of the converters are found to essentially influence their spectral characteristics and luminescence efficiency.
