The problem of finding the roots of a polynomial equation is important because many calculations in engineering and scientific computation can be summarized to it. An adaptive algorithm based on Sturm's theorem which could find the isolate intervals for all the real roots rapidly is used to locate all the roots. To find the numerical root, they will first be roughly approximated by dichotomy method. And then these roots are computed by Newton method using the initial values got in the first step. This method overcomes the shortcomings of dichotomy method and iterative method. The first step could find a good initial point quickly for Newton method, and Newton method converges faster than dichotomy method. Numerical example shows the effectiveness of this method.

Numerical simulations were performed to study the fluid characteristics in a novel static jet mixer with respect to the specific configuration. The results show that the profiles of three velocity components are symmetry to the cross-section z/H=0.5 and varies with the same trend of the different radial position. The magnitude of tangential velocity is one order greater than that of the axial velocity. The baffle length has an effect on the velocity components. The peak of the turbulent intensity is always at the jet position and the trend is the same as that of the turbulent kinetic energy.

Foreground extraction is widely used in pattern recognition, movie and arts, etc. And the most important part of Foreground extraction is detecting the image edge. By detecting the image edge, we can build the models to extract foreground from the image through region, pixel or color. This paper begin with the analysis and evaluation of several typical algorithms of edge detection operator, and then the mixture Gaussian model which based on the foreground and background colors basic model is given to balance the insufficient of two models. Next we get matrix E(x) from the mixture Gaussian model, and then realize foreground extraction by maximum flow minimum cut algorithm cutting. Finally as the parameter's change, the extracted effect is analyzed.
