High quality FexGa1-xBO3 single crystals with 0 ≤ x ≤ 1 were synthesized and studied by electron magnetic resonance in the temperature range from 4 to 290 K. At low x, only the electron spin resonance (ESR) of diluted Fe3+ ions is present. Fitting to the experimental ESR spectra, assuming distributions of Fe3+ ligand coordinates, has shown the existence of local disorder in the crystals.

Large area film deposition was performed by means of multitarget reactive magnetron sputtering from 200 mm diameter metallic targets (Pb, Ti, Zr) onto Cu-coated Kapton HN substrates. High-power pulse sputtering has been employed for the Zr-target (or alternatively for the Ti-target). Film composition profiles were evaluated by XPS and RBS. Piezoelectric properties were investigated by PFM.

The main crystallization trends of complex oxide compounds of yttrium and calcium from potassium phosphate-molybdate melts have been studied. The regions of formation K3Y(PO4)2, YPO4, KCaY(PO4)2 and K2CaP2O7 from high-temperature solutions of K-Ca-Y-P-Mo-O have been distinguished. The influence of K/Mo and P/Ca ratio in the initial melt has been shown to play the key role in solid phase formation.

Effects of temperature on the luminescence of LiMgPO4 and β-Ca2SiO4 doped with Eu3+ and Eu2+ is presented. The short distance compensation of the Eu3+ in the Ca2+ sites in β-Ca2SiO4:Eu2+/Eu3+ and the long distance compensation of Eu3+ in the Mg2+ or other sites in LiMgPO4:Eu2+/Eu3+ is responsible for different temperature behaviour of the luminescence in both materials. The importance of the energy of the Fermi level is also discusses.

Peculiarities of phase formation and densification processes during reactive sintering of Nd3+:YAG laser ceramics prepared using particles with different size have been studied. It has been found that utilization of submicron powders can significantly reduce YAG formation temperature from 1700°C for coarse powder to 1200-1500°C for fine powders. Moreover, utilization of different-sized yttria and alumina particles provide a competitive advantage of shrinkage over expansion processes by changing the kinetics of YAG phase formation. Nd3+:YAG (1-4 at.%) laser ceramics with in-line optical transmission of about 81.5 % at λ=1064 nm has been produced by reactive sintering. Finally, we succeed in lasing of Nd3+:YAG (4 at.%) ceramics under pulsed laser diode pumping.

Work reports the formation of LiFePO4 nanoparticles under hydrothermal method with the investigation of the synthesis conditions (temperature, duration, relative content of polyethylene glycol addition) influence on the obtained material phase composition and magnetic microstructure. The increasing of material conductivity by a formation of carbon coating around the LiFePO4 particles was studied.

Low-temperature infrared spectra reveal multicenter nature of the Ce3+ dopant in various Czochralski grown garnets, perovskite crystals, and YAG transparent glass. Some of these multicenters are associated with antisite defects, i.e. rare-earth ions substituting smaller cations in different crystallographic positions. The antisite defects have detrimental effect on the scintillation properties of these materials. The epitaxially-grown from flux layers of these materials contain much smaller amount of these defects due to low temperature of growth.
