Behavior of light yield in wide range of inorganic scintillation crystals formed by isovalent substitution of anions or cations is summarized. The correlations between improvement of light yield in mixed crystals, and the ratios of ionic radii and atomic weights of the substituted atoms, as well as the bandgap difference between the components of mixed crystal, have been analyzed. It is presumed that non-monotonous dependence of light yield on components ratio in mixed scintillators is called by modulation of energy structure and limitation of carrier migration length due to spatial inhomogeneity in crystal. Phenomenological approach to prediction of light yield in mixed scintillation crystals has been proposed.

The formation of (1-x)BaTiO3-xLi0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.6) solid solutions with positive temperature coefficient of resistance (PTCR) effect was studied. Powders were prepared by solid-phase reaction technique. Ceramics were sintered under reducing atmosphere N2/H2 in the temperature range 1200-1450°C with subsequent oxidation in air. It was shown that minimum value of resistivity rises with increase in x value. Complex impedance analysis shown that ceramic grains of (1-x)BaTiO3-xLi0.5Bi0.5TiO3 materials consist of three areas with different electrical properties. Boundaries and outer layers of grains make the main contribution to the PTCR effect in lithium-containing solid solutions. The potential barrier decreases with increasing x.

The influence of technological operations on the optical properties of YAG crystals grown from melt using Mo crucibles is evaluated and compared to YAG grown from Ir crucibles. It is shown that optimization of post-growth annealing procedure of YAG grown in Mo crucible provides the optical transmission comparable to the counterpart grown from Ir crucible. The features of absorption spectra of the as-grown (AsG) YAG crystals, grown from Mo crucible are analyzed and compared to the literature.

The conditions of synthesis and luminescence characteristics of composites Al2O3:Cr3+/NaAl(MoO4)2:Cr3+ obtained from molybdate high-temperature solutions have been studied. The influence of the impurity Cr3+ ions on crystallization regions in the molten system Na-Al-Mo-O has been detected as a key factor of composite formation. The luminescence emission spectra of the composite exhibit two narrow lines at 692 nm (Al2O3:Cr3+) and 740.5 nm (NaAl(MoO4)2:Cr3+), which indicates that both components of the composite are doped with chromium.

The low-temperature behavior of optical and magneto-optical properties of microcavity 1D-MPCs with different composition of substituted YIG films as defect layers were investigated. It is found that optical transmittance of 1D-MPCs was temperature independent and 1D-MPC with Bi, Gd, and Al-substituted YIG films had compensation temperature of Faraday rotation ≈ 30 K.

The polarizability theory of optical activity is used to investigate the crystal structure peculiarities of disordered langasite family crystals. An optical rotation was calculated as the function of site occupancy of mixed 1a, 2d and 3f Wickoff position for various Ca-gallogermanate structure type crystals.

Time-resolved emission and excitation spectra as well as luminescence decay kinetics are studied at 4.2-400 K under excitation in the 3-6 eV energy range for Bi3+ ions substituting for Y3+ ions in four nonequivalent crystal lattice sites of Y4Al2O9:Bi ceramics.
