Three types of ferromagnetic nanostructures based on barium hexaferrite (BaFe12O19), lanthanum-strontium manganites with perovskite structure (La1-xSrxMnO3) and materials with spinel structure (AFe2O4, A = Ni, Zn, Co, Mn, Fe) have been synthesized by precipitation from aqueous and nonaqueous solutions, by the sol-gel method and from microemulsions. Magnetic properties of the synthesized nanoparticles and films have been investigated. It was shown that the obtained nanoparticles exhibit superparamagnetic properties. It has been found that the synthesized nanoparticles have promise in hyperthermia of cancer cells. It has been shown that the films based on barium hexaferrite can have promise in the creation of nonlinear resonant microwave elements on the basis of high-Q dielectric resonators and ferromagnetic film.

Erbium and ytterbium co-doped Gd2O3 nanocrystals were prepared by hydrothermal and reverse microemulsion methods. The upconversion luminescence spectra of Er3+ ions were measured at room temperature. An effect of synthesis conditions on the luminescence efficiency is discussed.

The purpose of this work is to study the possibility to improve light collection in conditions similar to than in cryogenic scintillating bolometers. Energy resolution and relative pulse amplitude of scintillation detectors were measured using CaWO4 crystals with different shapes (cylindrical, hexagonal and cube prism), reflector materials and shapes, optical contact and surface conditions (polished and diffused). Light collection was simulated using ZEMAX codes.

The o-Ps-related modes are used for study of free-volume entities in nanostructured spinel MgAl2O4 ceramics after drying and water-immersion treatment. It is established that that water-sorption processes in magnesium aluminate ceramics leads to corresponding increase in positron trapping rates of extended defects located as addition phases near grain boundaries. These phase extractions and free-volume entities in ceramic structure serve as specific trapping centers for positrons penetrating ceramics. It is demonstrated that Tao-Eldrup model can be adequately used for the calculation free volume (or nanopores size) in MgAl2O4 ceramics using o-Ps lifetimes of the third and the fourth components.

LiMgPO4 (LMP) phosphor is a new highly sensitive material for TL and OSL dosimetry. The objective of the work was to investigate the dosimetric properties of this material. LMP phosphor doped with Tb and B was irradiated with beta rays and alpha particles. Thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) measurements were performed for LMP powders in comparison with Al2O3:C detector (Landauer). The phosphate which was made in our laboratory exhibits a main TL peak at 150°C. The synthesized LiMgPO4:Tb,B is a highly sensitive OSL material for dosimetric applications.

New ceramic compositions based on Na and Ta doped CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) solid solutions were obtained. The synthesis conditions, parameters of crystal structure and low frequency dielectric properties depending on Na and Ta concentrations were investigated. The solid solutions were obtained by substitution of Ca and Ti in the CCTO structure with Na and Ta, respectively, according to the formula Ca1-xNaxCu3Ti4-xTaxO12. The substitution scheme occurs in a whole range of x from 0 to 1. The sintering temperature of Na and Ta doped CCTO ceramics with 90-95% of theoretical density is lower than of undoped CCTO. 1 kHz dielectric permittivity of Ca1-xNaxCu3Ti4-xTaxO12 ceramics depends on x and varies from 2600 to 9700. Dielectric losses tangent is around 0.1.

Manganese dioxide obtained by electrolytic doping technique was subjected to investigations of influence of cationic additives in an electrolyte on defects in structure and prospectives of improvements in its functionality. The Chabre-Pannetier model was used for this purpose. The results indicate on the variability of γ/β- γ/α-polymorphs intergrowth ratios, and twinning. There is a necessity to expand single phase Chabre-Pannetier model based on ramsdellite structure matrix towards multiphase "open structure" polymorphs that are frequently occurred in electrodeposited samples of manganese dioxide.
