Among the eight branches of Ayurveda, Rasayana chikitsa is an important branch. The term Rasayana means the proper ayana (path), the footstep of nutritional requirements, which is the basis for a younger and healthy life. Ayurvedic classics explain Rasayana's effect as attaining longevity, memory, intellect, freedom from diseases, youth, excellence of lustre, complexion, voice, etc. Among the various Rasayana yogas mentioned in Ayurveda, Narasimha Rasayana (NR) is a unique formulation mentioned in Ashtanga Hridaya containing ingredients like Khadira, Chitraka, Shimshapa, Vijayasara, Haritaki, Vidanga, Vibhitaki, Bhallataka, Lohashakala, go-dugdha, Bhringaraja, Shatavari which are processed in navaneeta. The indications of the formulation include a strong, swift and steady physique with shining black hair, good complexion, good intellect, digestive power, etc. In the present review, an attempt has been made to analyse the formulation, highlighting the properties of individual ingredients from a classical and modern perspective. The study revealed that the ingredients of Narasimha Rasayana possess antioxidant, immunomodulatory, anti-mutagenic and hemopoietic effects, among other qualities, which point towards a possible rejuvenating impact on the human body.

In Ayurveda, Kshara karma is an anushastra karma for para-surgical procedures. Kshara karma aids in unravelling the bottlenecks associated with Shalya tantra for treating specific diseases. Kshara therapy is the alkaline therapy specifically intended to treat diseases other modes cannot cure. Kshara can carry out excision, incision and scrapping simultaneously and hence can find application in different ailments. But still, Kshara therapy has been least explored, and the present review aims at shedding light on the therapeutic aspects of Kshara. This article also mentions various therapeutic applications where Kshara has been utilised.

The procedures mentioned for skin care, as part of daily routine, are udvartana (powder massage), abhyanga (oil massage), and snana (bathing). Udvartana promotes skin health by lowering Kapha and liquefying fat. According to Bhavaprakasha, Snana removes mala and sweda and can be performed with amlaka water, which helps to reduce wrinkles and grey hairs. However, due to a hectic lifestyle and a lack of time, snana is performed with hot water, gram flour, turmeric, or, more commonly, soaps and moisturisers after bathing. In Sahasrayogatailaprakaran, Nalpamaradi taila treats itching, scabies, Visarpa (erysipelas), and Kushta (skin disease/leprosy). Nalpamaradi taila is used in this study to make soap, where studies were carried out to check its antimicrobial activity. The study was carried out in two phases. In the first phase, samples were taken from the volunteers from contaminated hands after washing with Nalpamaradi soap immediately and at half-hour intervals. The sample was cultured and observed, which showed a reduction in microbial growth bacteria and fungus. In phase two, Nalpamaradi taila soap was tested for its effect on C.albicans, E.coli, P.aeruginosa and S.aureus. No growth of the above microorganisms was observed after treatment with Nalpamaradi soap. The sample was cultured and observed, revealing a decrease in microbial growth bacteria and fungus. Nalpamaradi soap was tested in phase 2 for its effect on Candida albicans, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus. Following treatment with Nalpamaradi taila soap, no growth of the microorganisms above was observed. This proves the antimicrobial properties of Nalpalmaradi soap.

Panchakarma is a unique treatment modality with five specially designed procedures, vamana, virechana, asthapana vasti, anuvasana vasti and nasya where the body is purified internally through the nearest possible pathway. Out of these shodhana therapies, vasti is the most important constituent of panchakarma due to its multidimensional properties. The administration of either medicated oil (anuvasana) or herbal decoction (niruha) through the anal route with the help of vastiyanthra is generally termed vasti karma. Anuvasana vasti mainly contains sneha (unctuous substances) and does not produce any side effects. It can be done daily after taking food, hence the name anuvasana. According to Sushruta and Kashyapa, anuvasana is classified into three types, sneha vasti, anuvasana vasti and matra vasti based on the sneha matra used. It is indicated when Kapha and Pitta dosha are diminished when there is Vata prakopa and the pathology is localized in the pelvic region associated with malabandha. Arohana matra of anuvasana vasti mentioned in classics is studied in detail here.

Milagu Legiyam is a polyherbal Siddha formulation mentioned in the Siddha literature "Aathmaratchamirtham". It indicates silethumam 96. In the Siddha system of medicine, the clinical presentation of acute pharyngotonsillitis is described under "virana silethumam". Vitiation of kabam is responsible for the virana silethumam. According to modern medicine, this occurs due to the viruses and beta?hemolytic group A streptococci. Nowadays, this is a common illness in children that often leads patients to consult paediatricians. The hot potency of the ingredients of Milagu Legiyam plays the leading role in the management of virana silethumam. Hence, this review highlights the fields of research conducted on the ingredients of Milagu Legiyam. The data was collected from the scientific databases and various textbooks. This review revealed the presence of antimicrobial, antiviral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, anthelmintic and anticancer activities.

Ayurveda has a vast and in-depth explanation regarding the physiology, anatomy, and pathological manifestations of skin and considers viruddha ahara (incompatible foods) as one of the major causes of different twak rogas (skin diseases). All skin diseases under the sunshade of the Kustha, in other words, can be listed as “Ayurvedic dermatology” in Ayurveda. The pathology of all the Kushta owned by tridosha and, hence, Vicharchika can be explained similarly. Vicharchika has a more significant correlation with eczema/dermatitis in modern science. Eczema is a condition where patches of skin become inflamed, itchy, red, cracked and rough. A 19-year-old male patient complained of lesions over the upper back and arms associated with itching and watery discharge on and off for 1-2 years. He had taken higher steroids and NSAID and used to get relief only during its use. The patient was treated with Virechana karma and certain shamana drugs. A remarkable improvement in the condition was observed in one month.

The prevalence of dyslipidemia is very high in India (79%), which requires urgent intervention strategies to prevent and manage this critical cardiovascular risk factor. This study aimed to explore the efficacy of Haritaki choornam with madhu and lifestyle modification on serum total cholesterol levels. Elevated serum total cholesterol can be returned to normal by kaphamedohara, deepana, rookshana and lekhana drugs. Haritaki (Terminalia chebula Retz.) and madhu (honey) have all the mentioned properties. A pre and post-interventional study was conducted in 60 subjects of both sexes, satisfying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Thirty subjects were randomly allocated to the Intervention group (Group 1) and comparison group (Group 2). The study group received 3 gm. of Haritaki choornam with 6 gm. of madhu as anupama after food in the morning and evening, along with lifestyle modifications for 45 days, while the comparison group kept on lifestyle modifications only for 45 days. On statistical analysis, the reduction in serum total cholesterol in the study group taking Haritaki choornam with madhu and lifestyle modifications is more than in the comparison group who were kept on lifestyle modifications alone. The results were analysed statistically using paired t-tests and independent t-tests within the group and between groups, respectively. The serum total cholesterol was statistically significant with a p-value.

Garudan kizhangu ennai is a polyherbal Siddha formulation widely used for various skin diseases, especially alopecia areata, mentioned in the Siddha literature "Siddha vaidya thirattu". Alopecia areata can be correlated with the term "Puzhuvettu" in the Siddha system of medicine. This is a complex autoimmune condition that causes non-scarring hair loss. Nowadays, the prevalence rate of alopecia is higher among children and adolescents. Hence, this review aims to emphasise the potential role of Garudan kizhangu ennai in managing alopecia areata in Siddha. The ingredients of Garudan kizhangu ennai are briefly explained here in Siddha aspects, actions, chemical constituents and pharmacological aspects. All the above information was collected from various scientific articles and books. The scientific studies explored the ingredients of Garudan kizhangu ennai, predominantly possessing antihistamine, antivenom, antioxidant, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, immunomodulatory, and anticancer activities. This review revealed that the Garudan kizhangu ennai could be effective for managing alopecia areata, and further clinical studies will be needed to prove the drug's efficacy.

More than three-quarters of the world's population suffers from Gridhrasi (sciatica), which has a substantial incidence rate. It is characterized by the onset of ruja (pain), toda (pricking), and stambha (stiffness), initially in sphika (gluteal region) and then radiating distally to kati-prishtha (low back), janu (knee), jangha (thigh) till pada (feet). The patients suffering from Gridhrasi have restricted movements due to painful limbs, affecting their daily routine activities. it can be correlated with sciatica. Here is the case of 48 years old female suffering from pain in the lumbar region and radiating to right lower extremities along with tingling and numbness, difficulty walking, for the last 3 years with increasing severity. The patient was diagnosed with a case of Gridhrasi. The patient was treated with Ghati yantra raktamokshana shows a significant result. It can have a long-lasting result, a safe, cost-effective, and less invasive treatment modality in Gridhrasi may reduce the intensity of ruja, toda, sthambha and thereby it may improve the quality of life.

The formulation distinctively improves eyesight and haemoglobin by its properties chaksushya (good for eyesight) and raktavardhak (haematinic). Standardization of formulation is essential in order to evaluate the quality of formulation. Making tablets from herbo-mineral drugs will aid in uniform dosage form, better palatability and easy acceptability in children. The pharmaceutical analysis method of Saptamrita lauha formulation was done according to the API and drug testing protocol of the Pharmacopoeial laboratory for Indian Medicine (PLIM). Materials and Methods: The prepared drugs were evaluated for organoleptic study, physicochemical study, pH value and microbiological studies for developing standards. Result: Due to low levels of heavy metals and lack of pathogenic bacteria, the formulation is safe for use. Conclusion: The results of pharmacognostical and pharmaceutical parameters have generated data that could be used as a fingerprint for future research. This paper presents the analytical study of the formulation.
