Validity and reliability are the most important aspects to determine the quality of research conducted by researchers. This study aims to measure the validity and reliability of the communication barrier instrument in the learning process of orphanages during the pandemic. The instruments used in this study were 20 items. This research design applies a quantitative paradigm. The validity and reliability of the communication barrier instrument were measured by Rasch Model Analysis (RMA) using Winsteps version 3.71.0.1 software. The students involved in this study consisted of 380 students from orphanages in the city and district of Bogor. RMA analyzed six aspects in determining the instrument's stability: person and item reliability, item difficulty level, item polarity, misfit item, unidimensional, and person map item. Based on these seven aspects, the instrument used in this study was valid and reliable to measure students' communication barriers during the pandemic. The importance of valid and reliable instruments can be helpful to determine the condition of students during the learning process during the pandemic. The instruments are essential for parents and teachers to deal with student changes during the learning process. Public educators can use the implications of this research and interested people to measure the communication barrier condition of students of the process during the pandemic. Future studies are needed to conduct testing for all students, from elementary to higher education institutions with more comprehensive research sites.

People of Minangkabau descent in Indonesia have several negative stereotypes that have long developed in society. Not only can it disturb the psychological condition of these ethnic group members, but it can also trigger intercultural conflict. This condition does not help the local government promote West Sumatra as a cultural tourism destination. This study deconstructs the negative stereotypes in order to correct misperceptions that have occurred so far. The study tests Hofstede’s cultural dimensions in two ways; first is towards the deconstruction process of Minangkabau’s original traditional teachings. The second is towards the nuclear family configuration using ANOVA test to find the shifting cultural values. This study attempts to find the origin of the negative stereotypes and confirm it with the original traditional teachings. This study can ward off bad cultural stereotypes as it corrects misconceptions about the nature of the matrilineal Minangkabau culture. Besides elaborating on the cause of negative stereotypes, this study also finds out the origin of positive ones. They are known to have high social awareness, strong entrepreneurial abilities, and excellent leadership skills. Thanks to these three good stereotypes, the Minangkabau people can then produce crafts that are intelligent and timeless, such as the production of engravings on songket cloth that are full of philosophy, the architectural feature of the Bagonjong house roof, the traditional dress, culinary menus, music, and art. This research produces data artifacts about contemporary Minangkabau culture to benefit the cultural tourism industry. This deconstruction approach has never been tested on the Minangkabau tribe.

At the beginning of YouTube development, there were few broadcasts featuring information about religious values. But now, along with the times, many preachers are starting to use YouTube as a medium of da'wah to reach the younger generation who may not come to conventional recitations such as lectures in recitation activities. Based on this background, this study aims to measure the effects of YouTube, especially da'wah shows, on the younger generation’s religiosity at universities in Java and Sumatra. The religiosity aspect consists of Aqidah, morals, and sharia. These three aspects will be used as variables revealed to be questioned for respondents. The research method used in this study is the SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) analysis technique. Data collection in the study was conducted at four campuses: UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Pamulang University (UNPAM) and UIN Imam Bonjol Padang and Padang State University (UNP), with a sample of 200 students representing Gen-Z. Sampling used simple random sampling. The research results obtained a significance score of 0.031 < 0.05 so that it can be concluded; First, the preachers (YouTube) figure has little effect on the religiosity of Gen-Z, namely the preachers is only 0.019, meaning that the effect is small. On YouTube, the second theory, preaching, affects Gen-Z religiosity by 0.093, meaning that the effect is negligible. Third, the da'wah method on YouTube involves the religiosity of Gen-Z, which is equal to 0.131, which means that the method is more influential than the preacher and material. This means that the hypothesis is accepted or has a significant effect, especially on the da'wah method.

The Covid-19 pandemic that has occurred in Indonesia since 2019 has had an impact on educational, economic and social aspects, forcing people not to carry out activities that cause crowds such as wedding receptions. Restrictions on activities during the Covid-19 pandemic have an impact on the organization of weddings. The prohibition of crowding is the main factor that people must start honing their creativity by utilizing technology. The use of technology to answer public concerns about marriage in an Islamic perspective as a way to find out how Islam discusses the substance of marriage and how the use of technology can meet needs, especially in terms of marriage. Marriage has been discussed by Islam through the Qur'an and Hadith. This study uses a qualitative method with a library research approach. Research sources come from books, articles, and writings related to this research. The results of this study are Covid-19 does not hinder the implementation of marriages, Islam is so simple in the context of the validity of a marriage, namely the achievement of the pillars and conditions of a valid marriage, not from the form of the reception because the essence of marriage according to Islam is not how luxurious the reception is, but the terms and pillars of marriage must be fulfilled. so that activity restrictions are not an obstacle because the use of technology during the Covid-19 disruption era can be a solution.

Negative images were commonly experienced by minority groups in society, including Sedulur Sikep Samin’s believers. Therefore, a communication strategy was needed to build a positive image in society. This study aimed to determine the communication strategy of Sedulur Sikep Samin’s believers in Larikrejo Village, Undaan District, Kudus Regency, Central Java in building a positive image in society. This research explored three elements of communication strategy, namely message planning, communication approach, and media selection. This study used the Co-Cultural theory of Mark Orbe. Interpretive phenomenological analysis was used in this study as a technical data analysis. The results of this study indicated that Sedulur Sikep Samin’s believers in Larikrejo Village use accommodation strategies to build a positive image in society. This strategy included non-assertive and assertive accommodation. In terms of planning the message of Sedulur Sikep Samin’s believers, they conducted deliberation first before the message was conveyed to the public. The communication approach was carried out by mingling, staying in touch, tying brotherhood both verbally and non-verbally to society and local government. This approach was in accordance with the ancestral teachings of Sedulur Sikep Samin’s which had been passed down from generation to generation (Samin Teachings). In terms of media selection, Sedulur Sikep Samin’s believers used outdoor media such as signposts, banners, photos, and posters displayed in the secretariat office.

Product placement or embedded marketing is a marketing technique that unites products or brands in activation or program, such as television programs, events, sports, video games, or movies. This technique is now often found on the screen of Sinetron in Indonesia. For this reason, this study aims to identify the variety of product placement in Sinetron Indonesia to be studied from the perspective of broadcasting ethics in Indonesia. The object of this research is the Korean drama Vincenzo. The concept of product placement used in this research is according to d'Astous and Sequin and Přikrylová dan Jahodová. The research method is descriptive qualitative with a study of visual data documentation on these four episodes of the Korean drama Vincenzo. The research found that the variety of product placement used is Integrated Explicit Product Placement. The actor plays an active role in the scene and is expressed formally in the program or plot. The main star clearly shows the attributes and benefits of the central hat. This product placement is no longer implicit or sponsorship but more open. Ethically this can psychologically impact the audience that this is not part of an advertisement but a Sinetron scene. This strategy does not protect the audience. It is because the message is disguised not as an advertisement but as a persuasion function.

Advanced technology has made meeting new people less conventional than it used to be. The Internet has taken romance into a whole different world and created a whole different threat with the idea of online dating. Internet users are faced with many threats every day, but online dating has caused a threat with a form of online identity deception called catfishing. Catfishing itself is the theme of an MTV reality show named Catfish: The TV Show. This study aims to find out about the reaction of adolescent online daters on catfishing on the program. This descriptive qualitative study uses Stuart Hall's Reception Analysis method and its three hypothetical positions, such as Dominant-Hegemonic position, Negotiated position, and Oppositional position. Results show different readings on each of the six pieces of information given in the chosen episode. Four pieces of information such as when the client first reached out to Catfish: The TV Show team, the team investigated the catfish, the team to arrange a meeting with the catfish, and the meeting with the catfish are dominated by the Dominant-Hegemonic Position. Meanwhile, the rest of the two pieces of information are dominated by the Negotiated position and the Oppositional position. However, the complete study result is dominated by the Oppositional position.

Indonesia was currently fighting disinfodemic COVID-19. During this situation, several hoaxes related to COVID-19 were circulating. Of course, the hoax news makes people even more worried and afraid. One way to prove the facts in that news is through a fact-checking system. This system is intended to check facts and verify information so that the truth can be identified. Fact-checking needs to be known by the public to suppress the spread of hoax news, especially related to the circulation of COVID-19 in Indonesia. Based on this phenomenon, the purpose of this study is to determine the informants’ experience related to the fact-checking process. The study informant referred to Mafindo, an internationally licensed fact-checking agency. To answer the objective of the research, the researcher used an ethnographic study of public relations with a qualitative approach. The ethnographic study of public relations focuses on examining communication activity planning using analysis units of Insight, Strategic Program, Program Implementation, Action, and Reputation or the IPPAR Model. The results of this study indicate that the Mafindo fact checker interprets the fact-checking for COVID-19 news as important, to reduce public concerns. The lack of reference sources to be used as data and evidence of hoax news becomes a challenge when doing fact-checking. The fact-checking phases include data collection, sorting, analyzing, and checking the results before publishing them to the public. The discussion is an effort to maintain the credibility of the results, image, and reputation of the fact-checker institution.

The disclosure of several cases of online prostitution using the MiChat application in major cities of Indonesia shows that the phenomenon of prostitution is increasing. Prostitution practices are prohibited in Indonesia as it included in human trafficking. Furthermore, prostitution using virtual networks is part of cyber-crime regulated in the Electronic Information and Transactions Law. Despite the existing regulations, online prostitution activity continues. One of the reasons is the use of social media and online applications that facilitate the distribution of sexual services.
