The first results on the superconducting properties of ultra-thin epitaxial CoSi 2 films are reported. The metal films are obtained by solid phase epitaxy under ultra high-vacuum conditions, with thicknesses ranging from 600 A down to 50 A. These films are stable against temperature cycling from 350 mK up to room temperature and superconducting for thicknesses down to 100 A. Results showing a reduction of the transition temperature and variations of the critical magnetic field with decreasing film thicknesses are presented. Furthermore, for very low film thicknesses (i.e. 100 A), an intermediate plateau is observed in the resistivity versus temperature curve. The effects of a periodic excitation on the transition to chaos via intermittency are considered. A renormalization group approach is used to predict the scaling behaviour of the average length of laminarity with respect to the amplitude of the forcing. The corresponding critical exponents are calculated for the different «universality classes» and found to be independent of the value of the external frequency. Numerical results on discrete systems are reported which corroborate these theoretical results On discute de l'effet d'une excitation periodique sur un systeme qui transite vers le chaos par intermittence (de type I). We propose a simple model for the concentration profile induced by a non-adsorbing solid wall in dilute solutions of semi-flexible chains. Our approach is based on the assumption that the restriction in the chain local curvature of the chain creates a non-zero surface concentration. The monomer concentration profile ΦSF(Z) is deduced from the mean-field model for flexible chains, ΦF(Z) = Φb tanh 2(Z/RG2), by introducing an extrapolation distance D proportional to the persistence length q. We show that ΦSF(Z) = Φ b tanh2[(Z + D)/RG2] where RG is the chain radius of gyration and Φb is the bulk polymer concentration. This analytical expression provides a very good fit with recent experimental data obtained by the evanescent wave induced fluorescence method (EWIF) in aqueous xanthan solutions.

From the nonlinear Ginzburg-Landau equations exact maximum supercurrent densities of injected transport currents were calculated for a square microarray as a function of lattice parameter. A comparison is made between linear interstellar molecules HC x N observed only for odd x and C n H − ions obtained in SIMS experiments which are very much profuse for even n than for odd ones. These two kinds of clusters are isoelectronic if n=x+1. So the study of the C n H − ion properties with the Huckel method lets to get easily some results on HC x N molecules and to understand why only the odd ones are detected in interstellar clouds: the Fermi level of these clusters indeed falls into a band of degenerated π levels; so according to the carbon atom number parity, it is either full up to even n or odd x (great stability of the cluster) or half-filled in the other case (weaker stability of the corresponding cluster). Determining the residual entropy in the simulated annealing approach to optimization is shown to provide useful information on the true ground state energy. The one-dimensional Ising spin glass is studied to exemplify the procedure and in this case the residual entropy is related to the number of one-spin flip stable metastable states.
