Since the recommendations of moderate-to vigorous physical activity (PA) for health constitute important information to be shared in counseling practice, the present study was aimed to evaluate the level of knowledge of health professionals about the international PA recommendations for adults and elderly and to verify if there are associations between PA motivation with leisure time PA, readiness to change behavior and body mass index (BMI) of these professionals. In 2021, a questionnaire was applied remotely with health professionals from Brazilian health system. The survey had 34 participants, who answered sociodemographic and health questions, knowledge about international PA recommendations for adults and the elderly, PA duration, behavioral stage and motivations for PA practice. Of the five questions that assessed the knowledge of professionals, three had the highest prevalence of wrong answers, and professionals who have a more internal motivation to practice PA showed a significant association with reaching the minimum PA and eutrophic BMI recommendations. Professional qualification is important, together with encouragement to practice PA, through contents that consider internal motivations.

Introduction: Diabesity is characterized as a simultaneous condition of type 02 diabetes and obesity. Among the aspects that influence the development of diabetes, the time in sedentary behavior and the time of physical activity are important risk factors. Objectives: To estimate cut-off points for time spent in sedentary behavior and physical activity as a discriminator of the presence of diabesity and to evaluate the predictive ability of WC and PA to identify this condition in quilombola adults. Methodology: this is a cross-sectional study with a sample composed of 332 adults (age ≥ 50 years), participants in the study of the Epidemiological Profile of Quilombolas from Bahia living in the micro-region of Guanambi, Brazil. The data were obtained by means of interviews and anthropometric evaluation. Sociodemographic and lifestyle information (physical activity and sedentary behavior) were included. To analyze the cut-off point of Sedentary Behavior as a predictor of diabesity, the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve was used. Results: Time in sedentary behavior >120 min/day and time in physical activity <240 min/week were the best cut-off points for discriminating diabesity in quilombola, with area under the ROC curve of 0.62, 95% CI (0.56-0.67) and 0.62 (95% CI: 0.55-0.67), respectively. Conclusions: The results showed that time in sedentary behavior and time in physical activity showed a good ability to discriminate the presence of diabesity among quilombola adults.

Bike lines are important structures in cities to promote active commuting. Thus, understanding the information inherent to its quality can help to understand its effects on human behavior. Assessing the quality of the bike paths in Florianopolis was the goal, using the QualiCiclo instrument and the SOPARC instrument for use profile. A total of 38 axes of cycle paths with 54 km of length were selected, and the qualitative analysis was classified as sufficient, with an overall average of 1.61 points. Observed 6,113 cyclists of which the majority were men, adults and in moderate intensity and better-quality bike paths have a greater number of cyclists (50.5%). Logistic regression analyzes showed that, usually, young people are less likely (OR:0.40; 95%CI: 0.24-0.67) to use bicycle paths classified as “good”. When observed by category, there is a greater chance of women using bike paths that have “good/excellent” quality of infrastructure and “sufficient” and “good/excellent” quality of signage. It is concluded that Florianopolis has an adequate network of cycle paths, however, the distribution of structures and cycle path connection is irregular between the regions of the city. A higher quality of bicycle path structures can promote greater use by women and the elderly, groups that perform less physical activity.

This study aimed to translate, adapt, and present the first evidence of content validity and internal structure of the Brazilian version of the Contest Orientation Scale. To this end, three studies were conducted. The first study was the translation of the items of the scale and adaptation to the Brazilian sports context, considering cultural and theoretical aspects by four judges, fluent in both languages (English and Portuguese). The second study was the content validation of the translated version. To this end, three judges evaluated Language Clarity (CVCtLC = 0.90), Theoretical Relevance (CVCtTR = 0.91), and Theoretical Dimensionality (KTotal = 0.71). The results ranged from good to satisfactory. The third study applied the scale to 188 athletes of both sexes, with a mean age of 30.6 years. A semi-confirmatory factor analysis was performed, which presented a clean factorial solution, with adjustment ranging from reasonable to satisfactory and satisfactory reliability indices (α = 0.744). In conclusion, the Brazilian version of the scale presents indices favorable to its application to evaluate the orientations to the dispute in the sport.

This study aimed to verify and compare the physical activity practices of children enrolled and non-enrolled on different days of week in a specific program offered at school. Seventy-eight children comprised two groups: children with extra physical activity (EPA; n=39; 15 females and 24 males; age: 9.2±0.8 years) and those with no involvement in extra physical activity (NPA; n=39; 21 females and 18 males; age: 9.0±0.4 years). To infer caloric expenditure, number of steps per day, and total distance traveled, children were monitored with pedometers during three nonconsecutive days: a day with a physical education class at school, a normal activity weekday, and a weekend day. Children enrolled in extra activities at school presented higher levels of caloric expenditure (EPA=132±61, NPA=61±25), performed more steps per day (EPA=7742±2473, NPA=5245±2306) and traveled longer distances (EPA=4201±1318, NPA=2799±1269), with boys (calories=154.1±91.6; steps=9763±3804; traveled distance=5114±2205) more active than girls (calories=94.4±46.7; steps=6691±2394; traveled distance=3726±1387). In the extracurricular physical activity day, children expended more calories (155.8±88.3), performed mores steps (10133±3724) and traveled longer distance (5442±2118) than in the physical education day (calories=127.2±79.3; steps=8409±3283; traveled distance=4478±1864) and in the weekend (calories=96.8±58.8; steps=6493±2687; traveled distance=3500±1466). Extracurricular physical activity at school leads to an increase of physical activity of boys and girls, even on days when the extracurricular activity is not offered.

This research aimed to analyze the association of physical activity (PA) level combined with exposure to sedentary behavior (SB) with dynapenia in older people. Epidemiological, cross-sectional study, conducted with 208 older adults in Aiquara, Bahia, Brazil. Habitual PA and SB were quantified using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Based on this information, participants were divided into groups (G): G1) sufficiently active and low SB; G2) sufficiently active and high SB; G3) insufficiently active and low SB; and G4) insufficiently active and high SB. Assessment of dynapenia was performed based on the values of the handgrip strength measured in kilogram-force (kgf) (women: 18.37 kgf; men: 26.75 kgf). Descriptive analysis was conducted using absolute and relative frequencies, mean and standard deviation. For the inferential analysis, Poisson regression was used, with a robust estimator, calculation of Prevalence Ratios (PRs) and their relevant Confidence Intervals (CIs) of 95.0%. It was observed that the mean age of women and men were, respectively, 71.0 ± 6.7 and 72.3 ± 8.1 years and the prevalence of dynapenia observed was about 24.5%. Furthermore, it was found that the insufficiently active older adults with low SB (G3) (PR: 2.28; 95%CI: 1.09-4.76), and those insufficiently active with high SB (G4) (PR: 4, 14; 95%CI: 1.95-8.70), were more likely to experience the assessed outcome. Evidence showed that, among the older adults in Aiquara the prevalence of dynapenia was high in the presence of an insufficient level of PA, especially when combined with greater exposure to SB.
