In this paper, we propose a novel L5 tracking scheme for QZSS satellite using L1/L5 synchronization characteristics in the L1/L5 receiver. The QZSS consists of a multiple number of satellites that fly in the orbit passing through the near zenith over Japan. The Michibiki, the first QZSS satellite, is transmitting all the positioning signals including the L1/L5 signals. As the code length of L5 signal is 10- times that of L1 signal, the L5 acquisition process takes too much time. To reduce this acquisition processing time, a higher number of correlators should be used in the acquisition module. These makes the hardware complexity and the computation power increase. As the proposed scheme uses the L1 tracking results such as the PRN, bit synchronization, and Doppler frequency, it doesn't need the extra L5 acquisition module and provides fast and stable tracking of L5 signal. The feasibility of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by processing L1/L5 signal transmitted from the QZSS satellite.

The energy savings analysis method has been attempted in various ways. But the result can be derived in a great variety way according to the analysis method. Therefore, we conduct a more accurate analysis through the data validation in this paper by comparing the relative energy savings rate between the experimental group and the control group, and we discuss the specific satisfaction in terms of the user if energy savings has been conducted.

Image scaling is a fundamental algorithm used in a large range of digital image applications. In this paper, we propose an efficient VLSI architecture for a novel edge-directed linear interpolation algorithm. Our VLSI design is implemented using high level synthesis (HLS) tool, which generates RTL modules from C/C++ functions. HLS provides significantly improved design productivity compared to the traditional RTL-based design flow. So we explored a large design space including several fine-grained and coarse-grained optimizations in the pipeline architecture design. Our architecture is verified in a working system based on Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA. Experiments show that our design can process UHD (3840*2160) videos at 30fps with moderate resource utilization.

Visible light communication (VLC) is an attractive alternative to radio frequency communication for applications requiring a wireless short range link. A lot of research work has been done on this topic. Different concepts for VLC are specified in standard IEEE 802.15.7. An interesting feature is the application of existing infrastructures like LED lighting to carry data transmission on top. In this paper, we describe a new approach which applies a video display as transmitter and a digital camera as receiver. Due to a multi-parallel transmission based on individual modulation of all pixels of the screen, high data rates can be achieved. A special feature is the option to design the modulation such that data transfer runs on top of a video presentation without annoying the viewer.

Chaos communication system is possible to improve the system security by using chaos signal. Further, it is possible to reduce the possibility of eavesdropping, and has strong characteristics from interference signal and jamming signal. However, BER performance of chaos system is worse than digital communication system. By this reason, researches for BER performance improvement are being studied actively. In previous studies, we proposed a novel chaos map for BER performance improvement, and called it `Boss map'. Also, we proposed a novel chaos transceiver for BER performance improvement. However, BER performance is evaluated differently according to delay time of chaos transceiver. Therefore, for effective using of Boss map, we should find the optimal delay time in CDSK system and proposed chaos transceiver. In this paper, when Boss map is used, we evaluate BER performance of CDSK system and proposed chaos transceiver according to delay time. Also, we find a delay time that is possible to have best BER performance in CDSK system and novel chaos transceiver after evaluation of BER performance according to delay time.

This paper presents a new approach to the detection of a vehicle with low relative speed to a monocular moving camera, for complementing moving vehicle detection using motion vectors from H.264/AVC encoder. This method makes use of the generic horizontal line features that exist on most vehicles as a clue of localizing moving vehicles. Further filtering and grouping of these detected lines followed by ego motion compensation can effectively detect moving vehicle with low relative speed for application in advanced driver assistance system. Our test results show a high detection rate of over 90%.

As electric vehicles (EVs) have been popularized, research on battery management system (BMS) of EVs' core technology has considerably drawn attention. Among various functions of BMS, predicting state-of-health (SOH) that indexes batteries' aging is the most crucial to determine replacement time of the battery or to estimate driving mileage. This paper studies how to predict SOH in practical EV environments where the batteries are charged and discharged dynamically.

This paper focus in an emerging concept called Elastic Personal Computing that is the ability to distribute data processing among multiple personal devices that constitute a mobile cloud. Among the most complex challenges is to provide data layer for the system to exchange input data transparently among nodes considering the data partitioning is application specific. Implementing data layers with replication and load distribution strategies is not feasible due to mobility, intermittent availability and the distributed character of mobile cloud systems. This article reasons about the problem and presents a P2P based data layer for distributed computing using personal devices.

This paper proposes a vital data measurement system during exercise using a thermoelectric element as a power supply. In recent years, energy harvesting techniques have been attracting attention. Powers saving sensors driven by energy harvesting techniques are expected to eliminate maintenance such as battery replacement. A thermoelectric element is an energy harvesting device. The thermoelectric element generates power if there is a temperature difference. However, thermoelectric element usefulness is limited, because the thermoelectric element requires a large temperature differential to obtain a sufficient power. Accordingly, we considered a new practical use of the thermoelectric element. In this study, we drive the microcomputer by using the thermoelectric element attached to the person during exercise.
