Recently, various smart devices are interconnected within the home network environment and such smart home support collaborations between those devices based on the Web of Things (WoT). The evolving concept of the WoT in the smart home network not only provide a simply control by users either within or outside of the home, but requires to support ubiquitous accessibility and sharing resources. Current smart home users are expanding their activities simply from one's dwelling environment to the social network and such phenomenon requires a new way of approaches to support Web of Things available. In the conventional smart home environment, the interoperability issues including UPnP and DLNA and the media sharing were mainly focused regarding the approaches for accessing heterogeneous home devices. The recent changes and requirements are based on the collaboration services based on the social network information for searching and interoperating various objects. The paper introduce a concept and applications of “Social web of Things” (SoT) for supporting device to device collaborative services based on the social relationship information of users for controlling and sharing the web based objects in the home network environment.

Recently, advanced driver assistance system becomes an important area for automotive industries. Especially, stereo vision-based system has been actively researched. However, in practice, the system has a difficulty in getting correct information because the images from multiple cameras may contain different exposure levels, illumination changes, and lighting geometry differences. To isolate these problems, we present a robust stereo matching algorithm based on color and gradient information for the advanced driver assistance system. Unlike most stereo matching algorithms, the proposed method is robust to the illumination changes and real world's lighting conditions. Experimental result shows that the proposed scheme outperforms other existing methods under the deformed stereo images by various radiometric changes.

In this paper we propose an algorithm for real-time 2D-to-3D conversion. Saliency based on color histogram is used to build depth map. To eliminate instability problem of color saliency, we presented a low-complexity and low-latency scene detection method taking advantage of color histogram produced before. The experiment results show that our algorithm is able to eliminate depth flickering effectively and create depth maps of good equality in various scenes in real-time.

PCI Express is considered as a good candidate for system interconnects due to its fast speed, low power consumption, and good protocol efficiency. In this paper we propose a system interconnection device based on PCI Express for usage in small-scale system interconnect and describe its design, implementation, and early evaluation. The proposed device provides multiple 20 Gbps connections and current testing results show that the throughput reaches maximally 6.797 Gbps without DMA.

The I/O caused by background applications shorten the lifespan of mobile devices because they affect the behavior of power intensive hardware. Our efficient power management scheme addresses this problem by killing unnecessary applications. Our results show LPK extends the lifespan up to 9.4% compared to baseline on a real device.

This paper proposes a robust speaker direction estimation method based on a microphone array for voice based interaction with smart TV. The proposed method uses speech basis and associated weights of non-negative matrix factorization for finding the speaker independent utterance direction from input signal with noise. The experimental results of the speaker direction estimation in real acoustic environment validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in terms of representative performance measures compared to the conventional methods.

This paper presents a fast thumbnail extraction method for HEVC. The proposed method reconstructs only the 4×4 boundary pixels requested for a thumbnail image. We found that the proposed partial decoding method reduced decoding time significantly compared to the conventional method. In addition, the visual quality of the obtained thumbnail images was nearly identical to that of thumbnail images extracted after a full decoding process.

X-ray sensor applications in general need a high resolution, a high SNR, a low FPN and a low power consumption. Digital pixels with an ADC integrated in each pixel can satisfy not only aforementioned requirements but also a fast frame rate. Nyquist ADCs, however, have a large area to be implemented and thus need a sophisticated circuit design in order to operate properly. In the other hand, a sigma-delta ADC does not require a complicated circuit design and consumes a small area. Therefore, a second-order sigma-delta ADCs in each X-ray log pixel is chosen due to its low power consumption, high resolution and high frame rate. The designed X-ray array has a dimension of 10×20 with a pixel size of 100μm and the measured power consumption of each sigma-delta pixel is less than 700nW.

In this paper, an effective photoplethysmograph (PPG) acquiring and signal processing system based on square wave modulation is proposed. Through modulating the acquired signals on different frequency square waves, it is effective to get PPG signals with high SNR by using simple carrier wave generators and reduce the computation load and power. The proposed system includes an exquisite and wearable three way PPG front-end sensor for acquiring PPG signals, an FPGA-based DSP for signal modulation and an analog circuit with an efficient anti-aliasing filter for eliminating serious harmonic waves of the carriers. Finally, the proposed DSP is scheduled for chip fabrication using TSMC 0.18 um CMOS technology to accelerate the performance and reduce the cost. The computation load is reduced by 98.8% compared to conventional system without effective signal modulation and filtering. The proposed DSP operates at 6 MHz and reduce 35.2% of power consumption with only 0.58 mW of power compared with the FPGA-based DSP. The proposed system is able to acquire stable PPG signals to accurately derive the physiological indexes of cardiovascular system such as heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen concentration, etc..
