This paper presents a new approach to the detection of a vehicle with low relative speed to a monocular moving camera, for complementing moving vehicle detection using motion vectors from H.264/AVC encoder. This method makes use of the generic horizontal line features that exist on most vehicles as a clue of localizing moving vehicles. Further filtering and grouping of these detected lines followed by ego motion compensation can effectively detect moving vehicle with low relative speed for application in advanced driver assistance system. Our test results show a high detection rate of over 90%.

As electric vehicles (EVs) have been popularized, research on battery management system (BMS) of EVs' core technology has considerably drawn attention. Among various functions of BMS, predicting state-of-health (SOH) that indexes batteries' aging is the most crucial to determine replacement time of the battery or to estimate driving mileage. This paper studies how to predict SOH in practical EV environments where the batteries are charged and discharged dynamically.

In this paper, we propose a novel SSD caching scheme and virtual disk image format, named SVD (Sequential Virtual Disk). Our proposed techniques are based on workload characteristics in home cloud server, in which synchronous random writes dominate. Unlike previous studies, we use SSD as a read-write cache in order to effectively mitigate performance degradation of synchronous random writes.

This paper proposes a vital data measurement system during exercise using a thermoelectric element as a power supply. In recent years, energy harvesting techniques have been attracting attention. Powers saving sensors driven by energy harvesting techniques are expected to eliminate maintenance such as battery replacement. A thermoelectric element is an energy harvesting device. The thermoelectric element generates power if there is a temperature difference. However, thermoelectric element usefulness is limited, because the thermoelectric element requires a large temperature differential to obtain a sufficient power. Accordingly, we considered a new practical use of the thermoelectric element. In this study, we drive the microcomputer by using the thermoelectric element attached to the person during exercise.

This paper focus in an emerging concept called Elastic Personal Computing that is the ability to distribute data processing among multiple personal devices that constitute a mobile cloud. Among the most complex challenges is to provide data layer for the system to exchange input data transparently among nodes considering the data partitioning is application specific. Implementing data layers with replication and load distribution strategies is not feasible due to mobility, intermittent availability and the distributed character of mobile cloud systems. This article reasons about the problem and presents a P2P based data layer for distributed computing using personal devices.

In this paper, a vestibular rehabilitation system is proposed, which provides for realistic experiences based on multiple sensory media. Postures of vestibular rehabilitation exercises are taken by multiple cameras for multiple A/V media and their reference motion data are generated for similarity analysis. Watching the multiple media contents on multiple display devices and taking postures according to the exercise program, patients take advantages of sensory effect and the vestibular rehabilitation. The effectiveness of the proposed system is enhanced by accuracy analysis of exercise and realization sensory effects.

The media multitasking is general user behavior nowadays as the second screen devices, such as tablet PCs, are widely spread. The content providers and advertisement industry figure out this phenomenon as an opportunity and attempt to develop various types of second screen services. However, the conventional second screen services are confined in the broadcasting and over-the-top application. Therefore, a second screen Web service framework based on multimedia package distribution is proposed, which is compatible to different kinds of operating system, heterogeneous network and various Web browsers. The multimedia package, which consists of multiple multimedia objects, is distributed to the second screen device according to the user profile. The proposed model is implemented to verify the Web-based second screen service framework and multimedia package concept detailing the functionality of each component.

Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) enables capturing images with extreme light variations within them. Typically, image sensor manufactures enable WDR using their proprietary techniques consisting of actual physical capture method as well as transmission format. This poses extreme challenge for interfacing Image Signal Processor (ISP) as complexity grows significantly to support customized processing & data flow for each WDR techniques. This paper summarizes various WDR techniques from multiple sensor manufactures from ISP standpoint and proposes a flexible architecture to support WDR data flows & processing using software and hardware. The given solution can be mapped to silicon area savings by a factor of N (number of WDR techniques to be supported) & 33% for rest of ISP with additional external memory bandwidth enabling universal WDR receiver.

Recently, advanced driver assistance system becomes an important area for automotive industries. Especially, stereo vision-based system has been actively researched. However, in practice, the system has a difficulty in getting correct information because the images from multiple cameras may contain different exposure levels, illumination changes, and lighting geometry differences. To isolate these problems, we present a robust stereo matching algorithm based on color and gradient information for the advanced driver assistance system. Unlike most stereo matching algorithms, the proposed method is robust to the illumination changes and real world's lighting conditions. Experimental result shows that the proposed scheme outperforms other existing methods under the deformed stereo images by various radiometric changes.
