The paper presents the results of an experimental study of the roughness of the treated surface using various methods of data analysis, such as the analysis of Fourier spectra. Also in the work, the process of mechanical processing is considered from the standpoint of mesomechanics, which makes it possible to re-evaluate the process of chip formation. The paper says that the roughness of the treated surface, as an output parameter of the cutting process, has a special effect not only on the quality of the surface layer, but also on the performance characteristics of machine parts operating in extreme conditions. Also, the paper considers the nature of the formation of micro-roughness on the surface of parts after machining, and lists the factors that affect the roughness parameters. Conclusions are drawn about what determines the different frequencies of micro-roughness of the treated surface.

The temperatures of friction pairs at various stages of wear during friction in cold and room conditions are determined. The mechanisms of wear of friction surfaces under various wear test conditions are established.

This article presents the results of determining the adhesion strength of a composite coating with Kh12MF steel substrate deposited by plasma spraying method using a domestic installation UPU-3D. As a composite powder, a mechanical mixture of powders PR-NX17SR4 and tungsten carbide clad with nickel in various percentages is used. The sprayed samples are subjected to heat treatment at a temperature of 1025 °C. The adhesion strength is determined by the adhesive method according to GOST 9.304—87. It is found that the highest value of adhesion strength is achieved when using a powder containing equal parts of PR-NX17SR4 and clad tungsten carbide in its composition. It has been also found that heat treatment significantly of the powder to the substrate.

The possibility of forming metal coatings on thermoplastic polymers by the method of hypersonic metallization is shown. A theoretical assessment of the minimum possible values of the roughness of a polymer surface for coatings applied with various metals has been carried out. The dependence of the average size of particles sprayed by the method of hypersonic metallization on the pressure in the combustion chamber of working gases has been determined. It was found that the composition of the working gases in the combustion chamber of the hypersonic metallization plant affects the amount of oxides in the formed aluminum coatings and the thickness of the oxide film after microarc oxidation.

Described are effective methods of protecting metals from corrosion and the expediency of electric arc spraying for large-sized items outside production facilities. The hardness and strength of zinc coatings have been studied, the optimum thickness of coatings with high adhesion strength has been determined. A link has been established between laboratory studies of the adhesive strength of zinc coatings and the practical results of their application to protect the elements of transport systems. The protective and decorative properties of coatings were investigated by evaluating the corrosion resistance and porosity of the surface.

The quality parameters of the surface layer of armco-iron samples, formed during finishing-hardening treatment by surface plastic deformation with a multi-radius roller, have been investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis. The course and results of experiments that allow observing the effect of treatment with a multi-radius roller on stresses in the structure of the hardened surface layer are described. The dependence of the microdistortion of the crystal lattice on the force with which the surface is processed has been established. The results of X-ray structural analysis, atomic force and optical microscopy are presented. The direction of further scientific development of the topic under study is proposed.
