Through analytical integral, this paper first obtains the analytic representations of the transient radiation of antenna when the step pulse excites the aperture synchronously. After that it presents a quantitative analysis of relationship of the amplitude of the field to the pulse width of the rectangle pulse, the size of the aperture, the distance and the angle of the observation. The analysis indicates that the pulse duration of the field broadens as the plunge angle of the observation and the size of the aperture increases in /spl theta/ /spl ne/ 0/spl deg/, the pulse width of the field narrows as the distance of the observation increases in /spl theta/ = 0/spl deg/. The amplitude of the field augments yet the pulse width of the field tends to narrow as the plunge angle of the observation increases.

Microstrip bow-tie antenna (MBA) conformal to cylinder with small curvature radius is studied. The simulation of return loss and radiation patterns of one-element cylindrical conformal microstrip bow-tie antenna (CCMBA) and two-element CCMBA array is presented. It is shown that CCMBA with small curvature radius can also achieved a large bandwidth, though the resonant frequency and the radiation patterns are changed. Calculated results are in good agreement with measurements.

This paper presents a design of circularly polarised 4-element planar subarrays composed of low axial-ratio stacked patch elements in X-band. The wideband circular polarisation is excited using stacked circular disc and quasi-elliptical patch that printed on a superstrate with low dielectric constant (/spl epsi/ = 2.2) and a high dielectric constant (/spl epsi/ = 6.15) material as the substrate, respectively. The proposed element exhibits low mutual coupling in two principle planes that is comparable to a single-layer inside the subarray, a pair of microstrip-line fed elements was considered and arranged in four scenarios. Low sidelobe levels and 2-dB axial-ratio bandwidth of 19.5% in addition to a boresight axial-ratio of 0.15 are achieved. Variations in gain and axial ratio other than boresight (/spl theta/ /spl ne/ 0) in azimuth plane are also examined.

In this paper, a novel feeding scheme of local oscillator feeding based on the near-field coupling is proposed. The coupling effectiveness between two single feeding elements as well as the microstrip arrays is investigated, showing that a good transportation of the power may be realized through appropriate design. In the feeding, both the amplitude and the phase of the feed-in signal are quite insensitive to the positional deviation caused by manufacturing and assembling tolerance. This good performance and its constructional simplicity make this method an attractive candidate for the local oscillator feeding scheme of large arrays.

In this paper, it is analyzed numerically the normalized RCS (NRCS) of partially convex conducting targets of large sizes of about five wavelengths in continuous random media. Here, we assume that waves around target are incoherent and the SLC keeps a finite value. In this work, we considered the case when the incident wave illuminates the convex portion of a concave-convex target. Here, it is analyzed numerically the ERCS in three regions of ka compared to SCL. For ka << SCL, NRCS equals two due to the double passage effect on waves in random media. As a result, it is concluded that in the regions ka << SCL and ka >> SCL, the ERCS is almost due to the double passage effect; and in between these two regions ERCS deviates from two depending on the SCL.

In this paper, the required dimensions of the flat-plane solid phantom are derived using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method to obtain detailed SAR measurements that are equivalent to standardized procedures using the liquid. The proposed measurement system using the flat-plane solid phantom constructed using ceramic materials is presented and the system is validated by acquiring SAR distributions at 900 MHz for two types of antennas.

An experimental investigation is presented on the impedance bandwidth of an electromagnetically coupled, probe-fed square microstrip patch antenna with suspended parasitic. A bandwidth of 25.5 % is achieved around a center frequency of 5.441 GHz. Measurements on gain and patterns are also presented. The antenna presented is small in the overall size, i.e. 55 mm * 55 mm, and suitable for use in planar and conformal arrays. It could find application in the industrial, scientific and medical (TSM) frequency band as well as in the 3G wireless local area network.

In this paper, a vector synthesis method is proposed to analyze the scattering by a composite system of a target with rough surface: specifically, the multi-path scattering has been investigated. The results from the direct target scattering have been compared with the composite system scattering to illustrate the characteristics of multi-path scattering.
