A new method for solving Maxwell equations of electromagnetic field in chiral media is presented. By using this method, the problem of solving the non-divergence electromagnetic field in chiral media can be transformed into the problem for solving a scalar equation.

Surface currents induced by high-frequency whispering gallery waves on a spherically curved impedance sheet having different impedance faces are obtained. The influences of several diffraction phenomena on surface currents are given explicitly. The causes and forms of surface currents are described, and the scattered fields are determined from those currents. The results explain the contribution of surface currents to the scattered field in a quite simple form. When the impedance tends to zero the expressions reduce to those of the perfectly conducting sheet. The results are independent of the actual source configuration and applicable to more complicated scattering and inverse scattering phenomena.

To analyze the radiation of a monopole covered with plasma, a shift operator method in FDTD is applied. By using this scheme we compute the radiation of a monopole antenna with the coverage of plasma. We observe from the numerical results that the plasma can greatly absorb electromagnetic waves and can impede the Gaussian pulse travelling along the antenna. In addition, the high frequency components in the radiation fields are decreased, and the resonant frequencies are shifted.

In this paper an attempt has been made to compute cross polarization of millimeter waves in the 30-35 GHz frequency range due to rain. Assuming Laws and Parson's [Laws JO and Parsons DA, 1943] drop size distributions for oblate spheroid drops at 20 /spl deg/C ITU-R method [ITU-R, 1990] has been used to predict depolarization (XPD) for circular polarization. The study includes a number of earth stations in a temperate country like India, namely, Allahabad, Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Delhi, Gangtok, Jodhpur, Madras, Nagpur and Trivandrum. Variations of co-polar attenuation with XPD ha been shown. Cumulative time distribution of XPD has also been presented. The study reveals that cross polarization depends on frequency, path elevation angle, co-polar attenuation and rainfall rate.

The antenna array characteristics like sensor location, gain and phase response are rarely perfectly known in realistic situations. Self-calibration algorithms estimate both source DOAs and perturbed array response vector parameters simultaneously. In this paper calibration errors are usually assumed Io be small and a first order approximation to the perturbed array response vector is often used to simplify the estimation procedure. We introduce two classes of self-calibration algorithms for solving the sensor location error problem. This paper investigates the performance of these algorithms. Simulation results show that iterative approach and MAP-NSF algorithm are much better than MUSIC algorithm, and the iterative approach is preferred. But the iterative approach is very sensitive to initialization. A novel algorithm, using the MAP-NSF algorithm results as the input to the iterative approach, is proposed to eliminate sensor location errors and remove the sensitivity to initialization. Further simulation results demonstrate the improved performance of the new approach.

In this paper is presented a new technique to improve the VCO linearity by resampling the measured IF signal in short-range frequency modulated continuous wave (FM/CW) radar based on a known reflecting reference, which caused intentionally by a specially fabricated paraboloidal antenna. The basic principle and special attention are given in following discussion. Moreover, a confirmed experiment in microwave non-reflective chamber is simulated. The result shows the feasibility of our self-made antenna and this method satisfactorily.

Angular glint caused by a target of dual point sources is discussed in phase gradient method. Deterministic relation between phase gradient and RCS is deduced. On the basis of that, a RCS based compensation method of angular glint is presented. The validity is verified by simulation. For target of multi-point sources, compensation for angular glint error is similar if it is treated as a target of dual point sources.

An approach based on a combination of genetic algorithm and fast Fourier transform is presented for array failure correction. It speeds up the evaluation of array pattern by using FFT, so it provides the possibility to speed up the GA. Simulation results demonstrate its effectiveness.

When high power microwave is propagating in atmosphere, the effect of atmospheric refraction will take place and the extent of it mainly depends on the variation gradient of refractive index and the initial quadrant elevation according to path. Based on the lower atmosphere section data, this paper divides the propagation trace of high power microwave when the atmosphere is not breakdown by some points, get the quadrant elevation, altitude, geocentric separation angle from every points to the target point and the true distance from every points to the emission point and realize simulation of high power microwave propagation trace in atmosphere.

This paper gives a detailed analysis on the impedance and radiating characteristics of a micro-strip patch antenna by computer simulation. Some relationships between its size and characteristic parameters have been found. A new structure of micro-strip antenna is presented based on the analysis, which can be used in VSAT station and satisfied with the following requirement of C-band satellite communication: dual-frequency, wide-band, dual-polarization and isolation. The result gives a good accordance with the conclusion presented in the simulation.
