Objective: To determine the association between Alvarado score and the severity of acute appendicitis in an East Coast Hospital, Malaysia. Methods: The cross-sectional study involved reviewing the record of all 177 Patients operated for suspected acute appendicitis in the hospital. Data were collected using a proforma. The severity of appendicitis was divided into perforated or non-perforated from the histo-pathological examination reports. Alvarado score recorded during the presentation to hospital was recorded. Simple and multiple logistic regression analysis were used to determine the association between Alvarado score and the severity of acute appendicitis. Results: Prevalence of perforated appendicitis was 25.1%. The mean of Alvarado score was 7.5 (SD: 1.35). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed a significant association between Alvarado score and severity of acute appendicitis after adjusting for age, gender and duration of pain before presentation. Conclusion: Higher Alvarado score is associated with higher odds of perforation. Therefore, Alvarado score could be used not just for diagnostic purpose, but also for predicting the severity of appendicitis.

Leadership is directing and influencing others to have motivation in achieving a goal. In addition, leadership is also defined as an activity that uses communication processes to influence the activities of a person or group towards the achievement of goals in certain situations (Fleishmen, 1973 in Kuntoro, 2010). Leadership style is a pattern of behavior that is designed to integrate organizational goals with individual goals, to achieve a goal (Suarli & Bahtiar, 2012). The leadership style adopted in an organization can help create positive work effectiveness for members. With the leadership style with the situation and condition of an organization, members will be more enthusiastic in carrying out their duties and obligations to achieve common goals.

Pregnancy is a reproductive event of women’s life. Preparations are done by mothers to welcome the pregnancy including preparations for the unborn baby in the womb namely prenatal stimulation. Various studies prove prenatal stimulation is very beneficial for the children’ growth and development in the future. However, prenatal stimulation programs specifically in Indonesia are not included to the service standard of pregnancy checkup. Thus, it needs to be socialized through a social media that is video tutorial. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of video tutorial learning media on prenatal stimulation in Puskesmas (community health center) of Cirebon District. The research uses Quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest group approach. The samples were chosen using purposive sampling technique. The samples consist of 40 respondents divided into two groups i.e. 20 respondents in the intervention group and 20 respondents in the control group. The data were analyzed using parametric statistical tests namely Paired t -test and independent t-test. Statistical test results show that the use of video tutorial learning media in the intervention group has better effect than the control group ( p -value = 0,000) ( p <0.05). The research concludes that the use of video tutorials increase pregnant women’ knowledge and skills in giving prenatal stimulation. It is recommended for pregnant women to regularly continue giving prenatal stimulation during pregnancy, so that the mother and the fetus get the optimal benefits.

One of the old traditional methods of silvicultural management is coppicing. Many woody species produce new shoots successfully after coppicing. Regeneration of forest through coppice can be used for short rotation of tree to produce wood biomass for construction and fuel purposes. There are different levels of coppice practiced in Eucalyptus globulus plantation in the highland areas of North Shewa. However, there was no evidence or study which coppice levels can give high yield. Therefore, the objective of this study was to compare yield of E. globulus at different coppice level in the highland areas of North Shewa, Ethiopia. Fifty sampled plots were purposively selected for this study. Volume, mean annual increment, stump height and diameter, stem number and harvesting age were determined from sampled plots. The results revealed that there was no yield difference (p> 0.05) between zero, first, second and third coppice levels. However, stump diameter and number of shoots per stump, stump height were significantly different among 1, 2, 3 coppice levels (p<0.05). Number of shoots were positively correlated with stump diameter and height (r = 0.77, r = 0.72) respectively. Farmers mostly coppice E.globulus from November to December and from April to June. Although statistically there was no yield difference between coppice levels, as farmers described the first coppice has higher yield than other coppice levels. The numbers of shoots per stump were higher in the second and third coppice and this could affect stem quality especially at early stage. Altogether the mean number of stems per hectare was 10812 which is higher than previous studies. Therefore, early silvicultural activities like thinning, early coppice management and pruning has to be done to increase wood stem quality and to promote growth as well.

The NaYF4 nanoparticles were prepared and analyzed. Its structural analysis confirmed the formation of nanocrystals of desired sizes and spectral properties that can be incorporated into Hela cell studies. The internalization of NaYF4 nanoparticles in HeLa cells was determined at different nanoparticles concentrations and for incubation periods from 3 to 24 hours using various techniques. The images revealed a redistribution of nanoparticles inside the cell that increased with incubation time, concentration levels, and depended on the presence of the transfection factor. The study identified factors responsible for effective endocytosis of the NaYF4 nanoparticles to HeLa cells. Thus this procedure or method could be applied to investigate a wide range of future “smart” theranostic agents that may result in be very promising fluorescent probes for imaging real-time cellular dynamics.

Novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV-2 infection, also known as COVID-19, has a pandemic outbreak, and recent studies show various limitations, including treatment. This virus is chiefly infecting the respiratory tract (RTI) and resulting in Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. Many developed countries, including Italy, England, and the United States of America (USA), are facing many casualties. Unlikely, no specific treatment protocol is available till today. Homeopathic medicine is a branch of alternative medicine, practiced on individualized symptoms similarity. However, historically it has potential in treating epidemic infections like scarlet fever, typhoid, and cholera. In the treatment of RTI and pneumonia, several homeopathic medicines have proven efficacy. This review on the utility of homeopathic medicine might guide the physician to prevent COVID-19 contagion. Homeopathic medicines can help humanity with conventional medical methods to prevent this global catastrophe.

Myrmecodia plant or ant-nest plant is from Rubiaceae family. Rubiaceae are mainly tropical woody plants, consist mostly of trees and shrubs and can be found in temperate regions. Myrmecodia platytyrea (MyP) are believed to have medicinal value. This study was designed in order to investigate the effect of MyP extract as anti hypercholesterolemic agent. The results showed that treatment of MyP can significantly reduce (p<0.05) low density lipoprotein (LDL) compared to negative control group. The extract was significantly increase (p<0.05) high density lipoprotein (HDL) concentration compared to negative control group. Besides that, MyP increased fecal cholesterol and fecal bile compared to normal control group. It was also found that lipid profile was significantly decreased (p<0.05) in MyP treatment group. All biochemistry data showed that MyP water extract was not toxic at all.

COVID-19 is a novel (new) coronavirus fatal disease caused by SARS-COV-2 (2019-nCoV). The outbreak of this pandemic first has been identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China on 1 December 2019, and has spread worldwide very quickly. It is now a major global health threat. After the World War II, the world faces such a major challenge in health sector and economy. The virus is transmitted human-to-human through the respiratory system. From the poor to the rich, infants to old, every people are infected from this virus. The disease spreads in Italy very fast and the north of the country is mostly affected. Lombardy Region is the most infected region in the country. An attempt has been made here to discuss the aspects of infection and deaths due to COVID-19 in Italy.
