Structured Peer-to-Peer (P2P) overlays typically offer either multi-hop or one-hop performance. Here we present Chameleon, which offers a variable hop performance trading hop count with bandwidth requirement. Chameleon combines opportunistic and active routing table maintenance techniques into a novel two-tier approach which allows nodes to adapt to variations in their available bandwidth. Chameleon uses opportunistic routing table updates for lower bandwidth nodes and active stabilization for high bandwidth nodes, offering a performance from O(log n)-hop up to O(1)-hops. In doing so its nodes can operate successfully in large scale (mobile) networks where peers need to adapt to continuous changes in the available bandwidth. This paper presents a detailed design of Chameleon and simulation results verify its adaptable performance. We show that significant synergy between the two tiers improves the performance when compared with the standalone algorithms

As advanced integrated network architecture, "cognitive radio technologies," which aim to improve the spectrum efficiency, have been studied. In the cognitive radio networks, each node recognizes radio conditions, and according to them, optimizes their wireless communication routes with the integration of the heterogeneous wireless media not only by switching over them but also aggregating and utilizing them simultaneously. The Adaptive control of switchover use and concurrent use of various wireless media will offer a stable and flexible wireless communication. In this paper, we introduce our cognitive radio testbed that has IEEE802.16 and IEEE802.11 interfaces, and perform the field trial in order to experimentally examine the effectiveness of the cognitive radio technologies. The experimental results show that the concurrent use of IEEE802.16 and IEEE802.11 wireless media offers high IP throughput performance and furthermore, the adaptive route control according to the radio conditions improves the IP throughput by more than 20% and reduce the one-way delay to less than 1/6. It is found that the cognitive radio technologies can provide the appropriate wireless communication routes to meet various demands for application QoS.

First response communication is tackled by several independent research groups. While there are existing prototypes and simulated results, comparison of first response solutions is hardly possible so far. We have built an universal XML based description format to handle all relevant settings and actions typical for first response scenarios. In addition we implemented a user-friendly movement and environment simulator which interacts with the network simulation on top of the simulated movement. The chosen data structure have proven to be well suited for describing settings and actions found in a first response scenario. The simulator combines movement and network simulation and therefore enables both, fine grained movement models and location aware network models with reciprocal interdependencies. The simulation results of the chosen communication approach are therefore finer grained than using a network or movement simulator separately. In this demo we show different movement and network models, perform movement simulations and show the interface for using mobility simulation within network simulators.

Online virtual worlds offer exciting new opportunities for enterprises or businesses. To exploit these opportunities enterprises need to find a way to integrate virtual world services with their real-world services, and to exploit virtual worlds rich collaboration environment to offer new or enhanced services. However, there are many challenges to realizing these goals, such as resolving virtual and real identifications, controlling communication sessions between real and virtual world entities, and managing resources in both worlds. In this paper, we study these issues and propose a framework for integrating virtual worlds into enterprise service work flow. We implemented a customer service in a VW contact center that is integrated with corresponding enterprise services. We also present a novel mechanism in virtual worlds that allow users to bring their own resources, along with the contact center resources, and share the resources with other customers or agents to resolve customer issues. Further, we present experiences from our prototype.

In multicast-based IPTV distribution networks, when an IPTV viewer tunes to a new channel, the IP set-top box (STB) joins a new multicast session. Upon join, the IP STB needs to acquire and parse certain key information before it can process any data sent in the multicast session. Depending on the join time, length of the key information repetition interval, size of the key information as well as the application and transport properties, the time lag before the IP STB can usefully consume the multicast data, which we refer to as the synchronization delay, varies and may be large. This is an undesirable phenomenon and degrades the quality of experience perceived by the IPTV viewers. In this study, we describe a unified standards-based approach that can be used both to repair lost packets in real time and reduce the synchronization delay.

The demand on IPTV services has been greatly increasing in the area of wireless communication. For supporting a large number of users with limited resources, the development of effective transmission technology is inevitable. In this paper we propose an efficient batching scheme enhancing the performance of VoD system over wireless IPTV. The proposed approach capitalizes the notion of segment interval time to maximize the channel utilization. Computer simulation shows that the proposed approach allows seamless service with a small number of channels as one or two for practical operational conditions, while the existing batching scheme requires a much larger number of channels. Moreover, the start-up latency is reduced.

Now mobile devices are developed to serve various functions, storing the sensitive information. As a consequence, the authentication of users for mobile devices has become an important issue. Additionally, the development of the mobile system is moving forward to the touch screen system for user friendly and quick access mechanism. In this paper, we proposed behavioral manners of users over the touchpad acting like touch screen that is able to detect finger pressure. We study the potential of each biometrics behavioral by individual and couple, comprise with hold-time, inter-key and finger pressure. The finding has shown that, the finger pressure gives the discriminative information more than keystroke dynamics with the PNN analytical method. Moreover, using only the finger pressure produces high accuracy rate of 99%.

A community live action game over Bluetooth, namely Blue Danger, is proposed in this paper. The market penetration of Bluetooth provides an excellent media for such game in which a large number of players is required. Bluetooth has a relatively short transmission range that allows a dynamic mobile adhoc network environment to be created which is ideal for the action game proposed. In addition, reliability of Bluetooth as well as its detection and tracking have been examined during the development of the game. A prototype game framework has been built and tested.
