: Background: Emotional intelligence has a protective role on psychological capital and performance enhancement of psychiatric nurses which can be effective against burnout. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of emotional intelligence-based training program on burnout, psychological capital, and job performance among psychiatric nurses. Research design: A quasi-experimental design was used to achieve the purpose of the study. Setting: The study was conducted at the Psychiatric Mental Health Hospital in Benha City. Sampling: A purposive sample of 60 psychiatric nurses was chosen. Instruments: Five different instruments were used Socio-Demographic Data, Emotional Intelligence scale, Maslach Burnout Inventory to determine burnout level among nurses, Psychological Capital scale, and Job Performance Scale. Results: There was a highly statistically significant negative correlation between emotional intelligence and burnout among nurses, and a highly statistically significant positive correlation between emotional intelligence and psychological capital and job performance among studied nurses following program implementation. Conclusion: These results provide evidence of the efficacy of the emotional intelligence training program in reducing burnout and increasing level of emotional intelligence, psychological capital and performance of studied nurses. Recommendations: In-service training programs in the field of emotional intelligence for nurses for increasing nurse‟s ability to control and regulate emotions, reducing burnout and improving level of performance.

: Educational nursing intervention is performed to help the nurses to perform their roles and activities that are given to patients. Purpose of the study: to determine the effect of educational nursing intervention on Nurse's Practice among Patients with Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Design: A quasi-experimental design was utilized (pre and posttest). Setting: The study was carried out at the endoscopic unit of Liver Institute at Shebin EL Kom District, Menoufia Governorate. Sample: A convenient sample of 25 nurses was selected for this study. Instruments : Two instruments were used. First instrument was a structured interviewing questionnaire. Second instrument was observation checklist for nurse’s practice. Results: There was an improvement in total mean score of nurses’ knowledge from 0.63±0.15 pre intervention to 0.90±0.071post intervention. There was an improvement in the total nurse's practice score from 0.35±0.82pre intervention to 0.74±0.064 post intervention. Conclusion : Total knowledge, practice scores of nurses were improved after implementing of nursing intervention. Recommendation : Periodic training programs should be carried out for nurses in endoscopic unit to improve, update, refreshing their knowledge and practice regarding endoscope

: Background: Muscle cramps occur frequently among elderly hemodialysis patients, which can be avoided by the application of intradialytic stretching exercises. Purpose: Determine the effect of intradialytic stretching exercises on muscle cramps among elderly patients undergoing hemodialysis. Setting: The study was conducted at hemodialysis unit in Meet Khaqan Health Center affiliated to Shebin El-Koum Fever Hospital. Sample: The study subjects comprised of a convenience sample of 50 elderly patients who were registered in dialysis unit’s files. Instruments: First , Structured interviewing questionnaire. Second , cramp questionnaire chart and visual analogue scale. Results: There was a highly statistically significant difference in the level of muscle cramps pre and post implementation of intradialytic stretching exercises (p < 0.001**). Conclusion: There was a significant reduction in the muscle cramps level after application of the intradialytic stretching exercises. Thus, these exercises are an effective and simple measure to prevent or reduce severity of muscle cramps among elderly hemodialysis patients. Recommendations: Intradialytic stretching exercises should be combined with routine nursing care for hemodialysis patients.

: Background: One of the most common complications of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is neuromuscular dysfunction due to critical illness, which may cause disuse atrophy. Large number of critically ill patients has severe muscle weakness, which has been named ICU-acquired weakness (ICU-AW). Purpose: The purpose of the study is to assess risk factors for acquired muscle weakness among Critical Ill Patients. Research Design: A descriptive exploratory design was utilized to achieve the purpose of this study. Setting: the study was conducted in the Intensive Care Units (ICUs) in Cairo University Hospital (general, chest and internal medicine ICU). Sampling: A Purposive sample of seventy-five patients admitted to the previous mentioned setting. Instruments: Three instruments were used for data collection. Instrument one: Characteristics of patients. Instrument two: muscle strength scale. Instrument three: - Factors contributing in Intensive Care Unit Acquired Muscle Weakness (ICU-AW) tool. Results : showed that more than half of studied patients had ICU-AW, most studied patients who had muscle weakness were older, abnormal WBCs level than the Non-ICU-AW patients. Administration of corticosteroid was higher in the ICU-AW patients than the Non-ICU-AW patients. There was no statistically significant relation between incidence of ICU-AW and gender, administration of parenteral nutrition and application of positioning, walking exercises. Conclusion: More than half of studied patients developed ICU-AW. The contributing factors of ICU-AW are patient age, abnormal WBCs level, not applying range of motion and chair sitting exercise to ICU patients, administration of corticosteroid. Recommendations: Further research is recommended to study extensively the effect of nutritional status on the incidence of ICU-AW. Also, the incidence of ICU-AW in sedated and unconscious patients’ needs to be assessed.
