Due to its geographic location, variable climate and traditional culture, Turkey has a rich flora and the use of plants in folk medicine is very favorable. That practice and knowledge have been passed down from generation to generation. Ethnobotanical surveys are carried out to record traditional treatment methods of plants. In this study, which was prepared by screening of ethnobotanical researches made in Turkey, 241 taxa were recorded in the traditional treatment of hemorrhoids. Information about scientific and local names, families, used parts and usage patterns of these plants are given. According to the research results, the most commonly used plants in hemorrhoid treatment are plants belonging to Asteraceae, Lamiaceae, Rosaceae, Scrophulariaceae, Araceae, Polygonaceae and Cupressaceae families. The species commonly used in different regions of Turkey are Achillea sp., Arum sp., Cichorium intybus L., Dracunculus vulgaris Schott, Ecballium elaterium (L.) A. Rich., Ficus carica L., Hypericum perforatum L., H. scabrum L., Juglans regia L., Peganum harmala L., Rosa canina L., Rubus sp., Sambucus ebulus L., S. nigra L., Teucrium polium L., Urtica dioica L., Verbascum sp..

A series of new 4-thiazolidinone derivatives were synthesized and evaluated against diverse DNAand RNA-viruses in mammalian cell cultures. Some of the compounds were found to exhibit moderate antiviral activity. 3Propyl-2-[((6-(4-chlorophenyl)imidazo[2,1-b]thiazol-3-yl)acetyl)hydrazono]-5-methyl-4-thiazolidinone 13, displayed modest yet consistent activity against three strains of influenza A virus, including the 2009 pandemic virus A/H1N1 Virginia/ATCC3/2009 (cytotoxicity >100 μM). Compounds 6 and 11 displayed activity against vesicular stomatitis virus in HeLa cells (antiviral EC50 values of 9 (cytotoxicity 100 μM) and 2 μM (cytotoxicity 20 μM), respectively). Neither of the compounds was active against HIV.

Comparative phytochemical evaluation of natural and micropropagated plants of Bacopa monnieri (L.). Marmara Pharm J. 2018; 22 (1): 66-73. ABSTRACT: Bacopa monnieri Linn. an important medicinal plant of Scrophulariaceae family and is distributed in the wet and marshy lands throughout India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, China, Taiwan, and Hawaii. It is endangered species so it is necessary to preserve germplasm. The objective of this research work is the comparative phytochemical evaluation of natural and micro-propagated plants of Bacopa monnieri (BM). It shows the presence of various phytoconstituents namely, alkaloids, saponins, phenolics, and flavonoids. These phytoconstituents are responsible for anti-oxidant and various other activity of the plant. The protocols for tissue culture has been developed for regeneration of the BM plant from small part (nodal segment). The regenerated plant having the similar potential in terms of phytoconstituents. The protocols of Murashige and Skoog medium can be used for the clonal regeneration of plant on the large scale through which it can be protected and preserved for the long duration in small space. From the comparative phytochemical investigation by HPTLC, the phytoconstituents which occur in the micro propagated plant are similar to that of the natural plant of B. monnieri.

Root extract of S. violaceum was investigated for total phenolic content (TPC), antiobesity, anti-hyperlipidemic, membrane stability and thrombolytic activity. Total phenolic content (TPC) was determined using folin-ciocalteu method. High fat diet induced obese mice were used for anti obesity and antihyperlipidemic test. Body weight gain, blood total cholesterol, triglyceride level were analyzed. Thrombolytic and membrane stability activity were evaluated by using human erythrocytes. Total phenolic content in root extract of S. violaceum was calculated as 51.26 mg gallic acid equivalent GAE/g of dry weight. The extractive supplementation with dose of 200mg/ kg and 400mg/kg were capable of lowering the level of triglyceride and total cholesterol significantly (p<0.05) in high fat diet (HFD) induced obese mice in a dose dependent manner. As a membrane stabilizing agent, crude extract was able to inhibit the erythrocyte heamolysis significantly (p< 0.05) with a value of 28.02±5.09% and 32.97± 4.12% respectively for heat and hypotonic solution induced condition. Moreover, 21.56 ±2.62 % of clot lysis was exhibited by the extract for its thrombolytic activity. The root of S. violaceum justifies its potential as anti obese agent. Further research is recommended to find out the active metabolites from this source.
