Distance based location management in cellular PCS network ? a critical study 基于距离的蜂窝PCS网络位置管理?批判性研究

A distance-based approach is an efficient strategy for location management of mobile hosts in a cellular PCN. But what is the optimum distance for distance-based location management? Does it depend on cell-size, and/or the movement behavior of an individual user, depending on her movement pattern, more efficient? Or should a simple fixed distance for all users be adopted? We have shown that a fixed distance of 4 is nearly optimum for all the mobile hosts, irrespective of a range of variation of their mobility behavior, and the cell size of the network. A more efficient adaptive distance algorithm, where distance is changed according to mobility behavior, is proposed.

On the traffic disruption time and packet lost rate during the handover mechanisms in wireless networks 无线网络切换机制中业务中断时间和丢包率的研究

Personal communication systems (PCS) aim to provide ubiquitous service to its subscribers. In order to fulfil the ubiquity requirement for service, PCS rely on two main features: use of wireless communications technology and mobility management. The former sets the basis to untie subscribers from a wire allowing them to freely move around. The latter allows subscribers to gain access to the network services at all times regardless of their location. A handover is the process used to allow a call in progress to continue as the associated subscriber moves around. A large number of handover mechanisms have been reported in the literature. In this article, we carry out a comprehensive performance study of the handover mechanisms as proposed in the literature. A detailed simulation model has been developed allowing us to set up parameters such as the speed and motion path of the mobile terminal. The performance metrics of interest are: the length of the disruption time caused by the handover mechanism and the number of lost packets caused by the handover mechanism. Under the scenario under consideration, the handovers using multicasting mechanism and full reestablishment mechanism exhibit the best results.

Performance analysis of preemptive resume scheduling in mobile transactions 移动事务中抢占式恢复调度的性能分析

We present an active network-based approach in order to improve the performance of mobile transactions. This approach employs preemptive resume scheduling mechanism which reduces queuing delays involved in the processing of mobile transactions at each network node. Such reduction of queuing delay significantly improves performance of mobile transactions given the heavy network traffic and the lower network bandwidth. We have conducted several experiments using analytical modelling approach in order to determine the impact of priority scheduling mechanism on the performance of mobile transactions. Experiments show significant performance improvements of the proposed approach over existing approaches of mobile transactions. It has also been shown that the proposed approach is robust in that it can be applied to improve the performance of current mobile transaction approaches.

Dynamic transcoding functions by extended media stream 通过扩展媒体流实现动态转码功能

On intercommunication environments, if we can use transcoding functions that include translator and mixer functions defined by RTP, it is able to transcode a media stream format into another stream formal. Media transcoding functions are useful for intercommunication on heterogeneous computer networks. However, it is difficult for us to prepare the suitable transcoding node in advance because the required intercommunication environments are not always static. Accordingly, we should consider dynamic transcoding functions with relocatable decision methods. In this paper we propose a novel middleware system that realizes dynamic transcoding functions by extended media stream.

Development of a test pattern for measurement of color visual MTF properties 彩色视觉MTF特性测试模式的开发

Human visual color MTF (modulation transfer function) properties were measured using special color grating patterns. These patterns printed on paper were based on patterns shown on a computer display. In this work, printed pattern on a paper was developed and measurement using the test patterns was implemented. These test patterns are available for the measurement of the human visual color properties.

This paper presents a new voice objective measurement method of VoIP (voice over IP). Although the subjective evaluation by human MOS (mean opinion score) is the best evaluation, many testees must participate in the voice experiments and expensive measuring instruments and environments, such as a special acoustic room are needed. In order to measure the voice quality easily, the new objective measurement method is presented and studied using experiments.

A balanced multicast overlay protocol - appcast 一种平衡的组播覆盖协议——appcast

With IP multicast not gaining wide acceptance, researchers turned to alternative multicast mechanisms like application level multicast. Application level multicast (ALM) protocols arrange the participating hosts into an overlay topology; maintain it and distribute data over that topology. ALM topology building algorithms define a definite relationship among the participating members and thereby create topologies like tree, mesh, hierarchy etc. We propose a new ALM protocol, simulate the protocols and compare the results.

Research on Web education system with personalized navigations 基于个性化导航的Web教育系统研究

The research on Web-based learning is a hot research topic in recent years. But the personalized learning support is limited in most researches, because the human cognitive processes and educational psychology-based study method are not considered. Our previous work proposed a learning support system based on a study method known as SQ3R. The system provided a set of tools and a simple navigation function following the SQ3R. But the navigation in this system is not flexible enough to follow the substance of the SQ3R. In order to support and promote learners to learn as the SQ3R scheduled, in this paper, we give three types of navigations named as heuristic tool-using navigation, traffic-light progress navigation, and suggestive review navigation.

Evaluation of multi-agent model for community formation in network society 网络社会中社区形成的多智能体模型评价

Advances in information technology are changing the social environment, and have brought about the so-called information-oriented network society. One of the major issues in the network society is how to bring people together, that is how to form the communities that share similar interests. The formation of communities brings a great deal of benefits to the members such as social collaboration on the Internet, recommendations from people who are interested in similar topics, etc. However, acquiring information about communities and selecting appropriate communities to join is a burden for most of the people and the burden restricts their lives in the network society. We propose a model of community formation with multi-agents with consideration of the cognitive balance model of the user. Personal agents can help the users by gathering and exchanging information, and recommending or assisting the users in making choices. The proposed model is evaluated through experiments.

GRAM - a P2P system of group revision assistance management GRAM——P2P组改辅助管理系统

This paper focuses on general design and prototype implementation of a peer-to-peer (P2P) and a proactive mechanism based version management system called GRAM (group revision assistance management). It provides four special features in comparison with other version management systems: higher system reliability and robustness, effective revision collision prevention using proactive agents, context-aware environment for team software revision, a unified XML format for configuration and history files as well as system and agent exchange messages. Every peer holds a shared space synchronized with other peers' ones, and a workspace for a user's ordinary editing. GRAM is implemented using the JXTA technology that consists of the virtual JXTA network and basic peer group services. The system GUI and basic functions in the current prototype are also presented to show its basic usages. By using GRAM, version management of various software development projects can be comfortably conducted.
