EFFECT OF CHANGE IN SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM PROGRAMS ON FAMILY SUBJECT IN TEXTBOOKS 社会学科课程设置变化对教科书家庭学科的影响

Social studies education emerged in the USA in the 18th century and has come to life in different geographies for about three centuries. Four different programs in the years 1968, 1998, 2005 and 2018 were prepared for the aforementioned subject which has taken part in the curriculum as social studies and has been implemented as an independent course in Turkey since 1968. In this study, four 7th grade social studies textbooks prepared according to different curriculum programs were examined (Akşit and Asal 1973, Şahin and Göze 2000, MEB Commission 2015, Gültekin, Akpınar, Nohutcu, Özerdoğan and Aygün 2019). The books were subjected to content analysis by document analysis method regarding the family. The findings were compared and examined. In general, it was found that the 2019 edition social studies textbook was different from the 1973, 2000 and 2015 edition social studies textbooks in terms of addressing the family. Subjects of History and Geography were predominantly included in the social studies textbooks published in 1973 and 2000. Therefore, the concept of family has mostly been reflected through the context of historical issues. Among the four published textbooks, the 2015 social studies textbook stands out as having the most coverage on democracy and human rights. This book also mentions the concept of domestic democracy. Alongside the shortcomings, many positive aspects have been identified in the 2019 edition 7th grade social studies textbook that is currently being taught in schools. GLOBALIZING DESERTIFICATION AND DROUGHT PROBLEM: THE VULNERABILITY OF AGRICULTURAL LANDS IN THE INTERNATIONAL SYSTEM 全球化的荒漠化和干旱问题:国际体系中农业用地的脆弱性

This study focuses globally on the effects of desertification and drought on agricultural lands. Desertification, which shows more its effects from region to region all over the world and particularly on certain continents, contains factors that will disturb the human future. One of these negative factors is the risk of creating food vulnerability by directly damaging agricultural areas. The risk of desertification reducing the quality of human life and threatening other living plants and habitats is a very important issue that should be highlighted by the international system. In this context, the study draws attention to the negative impact of global desertification, as well as the reduction of agricultural and arable land and the risks of declining crop yields. Among other problems caused by desertification, the study emphasizes socio-economic instability due to migration and climate-related conflicts, world hunger and lack of grain and food. In the study, the literature on global desertification, drought and arable agricultural land was searched and selected source information from the literature is included in the study. In addition, the study was supported by maps, graphs, and tables, as well as desertification researches and analyzes. Due to the limitation of the pages, other factors, such as global warming triggering desertification, have not been addressed, and environmental issues, which are directly damaged by desertification other than arable agricultural areas, are excluded from the field of this study. THE EFFECT OF USING CONCEPT MAPS AS ADVANCE ORGANIZERS IN ENGLISH LESSONS ON THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF STUDENTS 概念图作为英语课堂先行组织者对学生学习成绩的影响

Meaningful learning is a learning model developed by Ausubel (1960). This learning model is based on expository teaching and advance organizers play an important role in it. In this study, concept maps are used as advance organizers. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the academic success of the experimental group in which advance organizers are used differs from the control group and whether there is a relationship between academic success and gender. The study was conducted with 56 undergraduate students who are in their first year at a private university in Istanbul in the academic year of 2019-2020. In the study which is carried out by using quasi-experimental design with pre-test post-test control group, there is 1 experimental group with 28 students, and 1 control group with 28 students. The treatment was applied for 6 weeks. In the experimental group, the lessons were taught by using concept maps as advance organizers. In the control group, traditional method was used. Data were collected using the multiple choice test formed by the researcher with 40 questions as pre-test and post-test. As a result of the data analysis done by SPSS 24 package program, no significant difference was found between pre-test scores of the two groups. A significant difference was found between post-test scores of the groups in favor of the experimental group. However, no significant difference was found between academic success and gender. AN EVALUATION OF ATTACHMENT STATUS OF 6-YEARS-OLD CHILDREN IN STUDIES INVOLVING INCOMPLETE DOLL FAMILY STORY SCALE TURKISH SAMPLE 不完整娃娃家庭故事量表土耳其样本对6岁儿童依恋状态的评价

The goal of this study is to identify attachment styles of 6-year-old children using Incomplete Stories with Doll Family (ISDF) and evaluate the subject in the context of Turkey. In this context, answers were sought to what the average attachment scores of children and distribution of attachment styles were, which cities and regions samples were selected from, what variables were positively and negatively related to attachment. Document analysis, a quantitative research method for case studies, was conducted for the study. Criteria sampling, one of the purposeful sampling strategies, is the sampling method of the study. 17 studies published between 2006 and 2020 that met the relevant criteria. Studies that were identified according to the goal of the study were subjected to a 5-stage content analysis. Analysis results indicate that the lowest attachment score is14.20 and the highest is 23.96 and average attachment score of 17 studies is 20.63. Results also reveal that average attachment score of 16 studies is in the “avoidant” attachment style score range and average attachment score of 1 study is in “hostile/negative” attachment style score range while scores of studies excluding the one with “hostile/negative” attachment style is around 4 score range. It was also found that studied involved in the sample were conducted in seven regions of Turkey. According to the variables that significantly correlate with DSCT, attachment are positively related to 15 variables and negatively related to 10 variables. Variables that are positively related to attachment are pro-social behaviours, school adaptation skills, gender in favour of girls, parents’ educational level, socio-economic status of families, family functions, relations with parents, self-esteem, cognitive abstraction and cognitive flexibility, play behaviours, emotion regulation skills, mother’s attention and warmth. Variables that are negatively related to attachment are aggression, antisocial behaviours and adaptive problems, peer exclusion, fear/anxiety, attention deficit and and hyperactivity disorder, physical and emotional punishment by mother, loneliness and dissatisfaction. REASONS FOR CONFLICTS BETWEEN STUDENTS OF VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOLS 高职学生冲突的原因

This study aims to determine the reasons for conflict between the female and male students attending 11th grade at the vocational and technical Anatolian high school in Bağcılar, Istanbul in the school year of 2016-2017, and to understand whether such reasons significantly vary depending on sex, age, the field of study, the level of satisfaction with the field of study, academic achievement, level of education of parents and the level of income of the family. The study uses survey model. It was conducted on 339 subjects, consisting of 178 females and 161 males were selected by stratified sampling method.The study used, as data collection tool, “Scale of Reason of Conflicts Between Students” to determine the reasons for conflict between students. The data collected were analyzed for arithmetic mean, standard deviation and by using t test, Anova test and Kruksal Wallis analysis, employing SPSS package software. As shown by the results from the study, among the reasons for conflict between vocational high school students, the level of the reasons for conflict which is related to school and school administration is “low”, the level of those which is related to teachers and those which is related to self and other students is “high” while the level of these reasons combined is “moderate”. An examination of the reasons for conflict between vocational high school students showed that the teachers-related reasons for conflict have the highest values while the lowest values were for the school- and school administration-related reasons for conflict. The reasons for conflict between high school students do not significantly vary depending on the variables such as age, father’s level of education and level of income of the family while they significantly vary depending on the variables such as sex, field of study, the level of satisfaction with the field of study, academic achievement, mother’s level of education. Accordingly, it was revealed that there is a significant difference between the levels of the perceived reasons for conflict between female and male students, which is in favour of female students. The reasons for conflict perceived by the students studying in the field of social sciences is more positive than those perceived by the students studying in the field of sciences. The vocational high school students whose answer was “very satisfied” with the reasons for conflict were more positive than those whose answer was “not satisfied at all”. The vocational high school students who responded with the answer of “very successful” were more positive than those who responded with the answer of “very unsuccessful” in terms of reasons for conflict. The vocational high school students whose mothers are university graduates were more positive than those whose mothers are illiterate. {"title":"REASONS FOR CONFLICTS BETWEEN STUDENTS OF VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOLS","authors":"","doi":"10.7816/ulakbilge-08-50-01","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.7816/ulakbilge-08-50-01","url":null,"abstract":"This study aims to determine the reasons for conflict between the female and male students attending 11th grade at the vocational and technical Anatolian high school in Bağcılar, Istanbul in the school year of 2016-2017, and to understand whether such reasons significantly vary depending on sex, age, the field of study, the level of satisfaction with the field of study, academic achievement, level of education of parents and the level of income of the family. The study uses survey model. It was conducted on 339 subjects, consisting of 178 females and 161 males were selected by stratified sampling method.The study used, as data collection tool, “Scale of Reason of Conflicts Between Students” to determine the reasons for conflict between students. The data collected were analyzed for arithmetic mean, standard deviation and by using t test, Anova test and Kruksal Wallis analysis, employing SPSS package software. As shown by the results from the study, among the reasons for conflict between vocational high school students, the level of the reasons for conflict which is related to school and school administration is “low”, the level of those which is related to teachers and those which is related to self and other students is “high” while the level of these reasons combined is “moderate”. An examination of the reasons for conflict between vocational high school students showed that the teachers-related reasons for conflict have the highest values while the lowest values were for the school- and school administration-related reasons for conflict. The reasons for conflict between high school students do not significantly vary depending on the variables such as age, father’s level of education and level of income of the family while they significantly vary depending on the variables such as sex, field of study, the level of satisfaction with the field of study, academic achievement, mother’s level of education. Accordingly, it was revealed that there is a significant difference between the levels of the perceived reasons for conflict between female and male students, which is in favour of female students. The reasons for conflict perceived by the students studying in the field of social sciences is more positive than those perceived by the students studying in the field of sciences. The vocational high school students whose answer was “very satisfied” with the reasons for conflict were more positive than those whose answer was “not satisfied at all”. The vocational high school students who responded with the answer of “very successful” were more positive than those who responded with the answer of “very unsuccessful” in terms of reasons for conflict. The vocational high school students whose mothers are university graduates were more positive than those whose mothers are illiterate. THE STATE OF GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS CONCERNING ILLEGAL INCIDENTS IN THE OTTOMAN PROVINCE AN EXAMPLE OF SARUHAN SANJAK 政府官员对奥斯曼省非法事件的态度是saruhan sanjak的一个例子

Saruhan, one of the sanjaks of the Ottoman State in the Western Anatolia, in addition to having various features, has witnessed illegal events that took place within its structure. These events are similar to those occurring in other parts of the Ottoman Empire. In this study, the government officials who played an important role in the occurrence and prevention of illegal incidents in the Saruhan Sanjak, in other words, "Soldiers" were discussed. The state of the government officials in these incidents has been evaluated in terms of their positive and negative aspects in line with the records from the archive documents. In addition, some issues that the Ottoman Empire paid attention to, applications such as rewarding, compensation and various orders were included with examples from the records from the archive documents. The Ottoman Empire paid utmost care not to harm innocent people while fighting against the bandits. Also, in order to be successful in fighting against the bandits despite its economic difficulties, while revealing all its possibilities, it collected financial support from the public by means of taxation. In the study, the documents, especially the ones called "Muhimme Books", recorded in various classifications obtained from the Presidential Ottoman Archive were used. The idea of converting printed publications into digital publications is a long-term form of initiative. Whether it is legal or illegal, most of the noteworthy publications are digitally available and sold digitally. With the effect of emerging market trends, there are strict and new retailer constraints. As a result, it is possible to predict further changes in e-publishing habits. In addition, e-reading habits of consumers are changing at an unprecedented rate. In the light of all these, the purpose of this study is to examine the latest status of e-publishing platforms and to examine how digital publications can be sustainable in the future. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN POSTMODERN PERSPECTIVE AND ARABESQUE CULTURE, IDENTITY AND LIMINAL SPACE 后现代视角与阿拉伯风格文化、身份与阈限空间的关系

The globalization that emerged with the technology developed on the basis of the industrial revolution has inevitably caused a conflict of cultures. Hybridization from conflicting cultures has revealed cultural factors that do not conform to dual definitions and are understood negatively for this nation-state understanding. Because these cultural structures are outside the cultural norms drawn by the nation-state. In this study, the existential aspect of arabesque, a hybrid culture, was examined and its relationship with identity was discussed, and then it was found that arabesque culture was related to the liminal area. And this was the reason for arabesque exclusion. In this study, it was not understood that arabesque culture evolved with the change of society, and as a result of this evolution, music types with lighter words emerged by changing in intermediate music such as taverns. Another result of the study was examined from one point of view, contrary to the assumption that the arabesque culture relationship in liminal space would be completely eliminated by improving the condition of humans. It was concluded that this is an identity and existential phenomenon, and cannot be easily erased from the memory of society. Keywords: Arabesque Culture, Arabesque Music, Liminal Space, identity

THE DISCOMFORT OF THE JULY MONARCHY WITH DAUMIER’S GARGANTUA 七月王朝对多米埃的巨兽感到不安

Gargantua, a lithograph created by Honoré Daumier in 1831, portrayed the French king Louis-Philippe as a gluttonous giant who devours the labor of his people while sitting in a toilet-like throne, and attacked the king’s person and his government with a satirical manner. Apart from its portrayal of the king as a social cannibal, Gargantua also had a scatological humor by representing the king in defecating. For this reason, this lithograph was by no means tolerated by the July Monarchy that struggled to control over the press by censorship throughout its reign. In this research paper that aims to study the meanings and reasons behind Daumier’s portrayal of king Louis-Philippe as a ravenous giant in Gargantua, it will be discussed why this caricature, which the government both censored and sentenced Daumier to imprisonment and fine penalty, discomforted the king and his government so much. In this context, it will be briefly reviewed the political, economic and social conditions in France before and after the 1830 July Revolution in order to get a better understanding on the political atmosphere during the time when Daumier started to draw satirical caricatures for the journal, La Caricature. Later, it will be discussed Gargantua’s literary references, its implications to king Louis-Philippe and his government, the domestic politics in 1831, and the impact of lithography on increasing power of the press in France. NEOCLACISISM'S VIEW OF ART AND DAVID 新古典主义的艺术观和大卫

Although neoclassicism seems to be a continuation of classicism, the content that neoclassicism possesses, philosophical thought, is completely different. But this difference does not create a huge gap between classicism and neoclassicism. Neoclassicism reflects the ideals of the Roman empire rather than the Greek antiquity. These ideals and concepts are presented with enrichment with the concepts brought by the French revolution. Neoclassicism, a child of enlightenment, brings itself into existence with its belief in rationalism and science. Besides, concepts that have not been heard until that time have gained meaning with neoclassicism. The concepts which were brought up with a philosopher rigor by David, the most important artist of neoclassicism, such as virtue, patriotism, freedom, equality and fraternity have been intensely treated. In addition to this, the concept of the republic and the concept of justice created by the revolution after the great struggle, tears, and labor took its place in the art together with neoclassicism. The extreme belief in science has formed the most important pillars of neoclassicism. The unbending understanding of the academy, which has been going on for centuries, together with neoclassicism that has changed mentally and many concepts have entered into art as a subject.
