EARLY DETECTION OF TURN-TO-TURN WINDING FAULTS USING A PWM RIPPLE CURRENT BASED METHOD 基于脉宽调制纹波电流的绕组故障早期检测方法

The ability to detect turn-to-turn short-circuit faults (turn-faults) is an important aspect of ensuring reliable machine operation. Turn-faults create a low impedance short-circuit path within the winding, resulting in large fault currents, creating winding hotspots and an increased rate of insulation degradation. This causes the fault to propagate within the winding, increasing fault severity, until reaching a point of catastrophic failure. Early detection of a turn-fault allows mitigation strategies to be put in place, reducing the amount of damage caused to the machine. As a turn-fault develops from insulation failure, the residual series resistance of the insulation in the short-circuit path reduces; this work considers the impact of a range of short-circuit path resistance values on the ability for a PWM harmonic based turn-fault detection algorithm to operate correctly, determining how far the fault resistance must fall (or conversely, how far the fault-current must rise) in order to be detectable by the algorithm. It is concluded that the algorithm is capable of successfully operating with a fault path resistance around two orders of magnitude (100mΩ) larger than the short circuit path without any additional resistance (1.4mΩ).

A Robust Current Controller Design Method for Highly Nonlinear Synchronous Reluctance Motors 高度非线性同步磁阻电机的鲁棒电流控制器设计方法

Due to the rotor construction, Synchronous Reluctance (SynRel) machines exhibit high magnetic saturation and cross-saturation. This leads to strongly variable dq inductances, which affect the current loop response. In order to achieve constant current loop dynamics, controller gains need to be adapted according to the current bias. In this paper, three different methods for implementing a PI current controller are analyzed and tested. The magnetic characteristics of the tested SynRel are obtained using the FEA and also a state-of-the-art experimental procedure. The experimental verification of the current loop response is given for a 15 kW 3-phase SynRel motor, using a standard industrial 3-phase inverter.

ONLINE FAULT DIAGNOSIS OF STATIC AND DYNAMIC ECCENTRICITY IN SWITCHED RELUCTANCE MOTORS USING PARKS VECTOR ALGORITHM 基于parks矢量算法的开关磁阻电机静态和动态偏心在线故障诊断

Eccentricity faults have a considerable effect on the performance of switched reluctance motor (SRM), and hence, its fast and online diagnosis paves the way for taking proper remedial action. In this paper, an online diagnosis method of eccentricity faults is presented using Parks vector. Fault indicator (Parks sine) is determined by detecting the four-phase current of the machine and applying Park's transformation whose amplitude is used for the detection of eccentricity fault. The current trajectory in the α-β frame is used to differentiate between the static and dynamic eccentricity. And it also provides information about the alignment of the rotor along with a particular phase in case of static eccentricity. Results are validated in Finite Element Analysis software ANSYS Maxwell co-simulating with Simplorer and are verified for both no-load and loading conditions.

STATE OF ENERGY ESTIMATION IN ELECTRIC PROPULSION SYSTEMS WITH LITHIUM-SULFUR BATTERIES 锂硫电池电力推进系统能量估算现状

Lithium-Sulfur (Li-S) batteries are an emerging and appealing electrical energy storage technology. The literature on the State-of-charge (SoC) estimation of Li-S is readily available. In real-world, battery operated vehicles and equipment need to monitor the electrical energy. This paper focuses on State-of-Eneergy (SoE) estimation of Li-S battery based electric propulsion system. This paper bridges literature gap of the SoE estimation of Li-S battery. While comparing mathematically, the definition of the SoC and SoE batteries are different. Reviewing the SoC estimation, this paper compares the SoC and SoE estimation for same data set. The challenges in Li-S SoC and SoE estimation include battery modelling and time-varying parameters and nonlinear voltage measurement, which has deeply skewed high-plateau and flatted low-plateau characteristics. Modelling Li-S battery as a Thevenins equivalent circuit network (ECN), the battery parameters are estimated using Predict Error Minimization (PEM) approach. For estimate SoC and SoE, the extended Kalman filter (EKF) is used. Since the parameters are high sensitive to battery current, the estimators use parameters obtained by polynomial fitting model. A simple switching logic based on SoC-measurement voltage is used to join the high- and low-plateau. The degree of observability analysis is used to investigate the performance of SoE estimation by the EKF. Using experiment test data, simulation results demonstrate the performance of both SoC and SoE estimators. Results show that the SoE estimation is as close to the SoC estimation.

Torque Ripple Suppression Control for Dual Three-Phase Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motor 双三相永磁同步电动机转矩脉动抑制控制

This paper proposes torque ripple suppression control for dual three-phase PM synchronous motors with 0° shifted angle between sets. A new matrix transformation based on the relationship between variables of the d1q1/d2q2 sub-planes and the dq/dzqz sub-planes is proposed and torque ripple suppression control mathods are raised based on different current control strategies used in the dq/dzqz sub-planes of the new coordinate system. The open loop current control proposed in the dzqz sub-plane can partially suppress torque ripple of the whole system, and the PIR control in the dzqz sub-plane is exploited to suppress current unbalance between sets, while the additional PIR control in the dq sub-plane is executed to attenuate the 2nd current harmonic components. Torque ripple of the whole system can be attenuated with the suppression of current unbalance between sets and the 2nd current harmonic components. The effectiveness of proposed methods is verified by a set of comparative experiments on a 3kW dual three-phase PM machine system. It shows that the 2nd harmonic torque of the whole system is attenuated compared to the dual dq method when using above three methods, and the additional PIR control in the dq sub-plane has the best effect on the suppression of torque ripple of the whole system.

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS BETWEEN AXIAL AND COAXIAL MAGNETIC COUPLINGS 轴向与同轴磁力联轴器的对比分析

The adoption of magnetic couplings enables the transmission of mechanical power relying on the magnetic fields interaction rather than a physical mechanical connection. Hence, the contactless speed/torque transmission leads to improvements in terms of efficiency and reliability, due to the absence of wear out between moving parts. For a specific application, the most appropriate magnetic coupling configuration (i.e. axial or coaxial) is usually identified through a trade-off study. In this paper, a comparative analysis between axial and coaxial magnetic couplings is presented using a two-dimensional subdomain approach. Based on a full-parametric geometry, two 2D analytical tools are developed for each magnetic coupling configuration. These analytical tools are validated against finite element results in order to prove their effectiveness. Finally, the implemented models are used to investigate the impact of parameters, such as permanent magnet span, airgap thickness and number of pole-pairs, on the maximum static torque.

The work examines the potential of using individual FBG heads embedded on the rotor structure to simultaneously infer localised information on both the rotor thermal and mechanical operating conditions. To this end, experiments were undertaken on an FBG array instrumented rotor cage of an operating squirrel cage induction machine. The paper reports the details of the in-situ FBG sensor design, installation and calibration procedures and explores the information contained in the observed measurements. The findings demonstrate that the attained in-situ measurements contain simultaneous information on the examined rotors thermal and mechanical operating conditions thus providing a step forward in understanding the potential of FBG based rotor condition monitoring applications.

DESIGN AND TESTING OF A 250 kW FERRITEBASED AXIAL FLUX PERMANENT MAGNET FOR APPLICATION IN WIND POWER GENERATION 风力发电用250千瓦铁氧体轴向磁通永磁的设计与试验

This paper presents the construction and testing of a ferrite-based axial flux permanent magnet machine (PMg) for applications in wind power generation. This technology offers significant levelized cost of energy reductions via capital expenditure and operating expense savings - a crucial objective for the offshore industry. The direct-drive (DD) PMG technology uses ferrite magnets to create the magnetic field, which is a significant source of cost reduction. The use of ferrite could also eliminate an industry wide reliance on neodymium iron boron, the scarce and expensive rare-earth magnet used in existing designs. Another benefit of using ferrite-based design is that it is less sensitive to the cooling problems that currently face existing DD-PMGs. Further technical advantages come in the form of magnetically balanced axial design, optimized magnet and aluminium/copper ratio, insensitivity to air gap and cogging elimination. This paper details aspects of design, construction, thermal performance and testing of a nominal 250 kW power rating prototype.

TORQUE SEPARATION FOR DUAL THREE-PHASE PM MACHINES USING FROZEN PERMEABILITY METHOD 采用冷冻磁导率法分离双三相永磁电机转矩

In order to separate the instantaneous torque components in dual three-phase (DTP) permanent magnet (PM) machines, an accurate model accounting for the mutual inductance between two winding sets is developed in this paper, together with the utilization of frozen permeability method. It is found that in addition to the PM and reluctance torque components produced by each winding set, the mutual inductance between two winding sets also contributes to the overall output torque, as a reluctance torque component. With the frozen permeability method, the instantaneous torque components can be separated appropriately, which can provide more insights for the design and control of DTP PM machines.
