熱力学データベースMALTグループ(主査 山内 繁, メンバー 横川晴美及び松本隆史)は,良質な熱力学デー タを材料開発者へ供給するために,1986年に作業グループ を設立するとともに,熱力学データの収集,評価,データ ーベース化,熱力学データベースMALT(Mater ia ls Oriented Little Thermodynamic Database)の構築,改訂 などを行ってきた。1-7) また,化学ポテンシャル図4,8-10)に代 表される,熱力学の応用11,12)についても尽力してきた。こ の間の活動を評価して頂き,この度日本熱測定学会学会賞 を授与されるに至った。熱力学データベース自身の構築に 関することは既に熱測定関連誌1-7)に報告してきたので,こ こでは従来あまり報告してこなかったことも含めて熱力学 の利用という観点からいくつかの考察をしてみたい。 2. 熱力学データの利用とはなにか

For the purpose of developing a new method to measure the thermophysical properties such as heat capacity, thermal conductivity and emissivity of high-temperature metallic melts, the experimental principle of the noncontact laser AC calorimetry has been established. An electromagnetic levitator incorporating a static magnetic field was used for the AC calorimetry. The convection in the silicon droplet is effectively suppressed by the Lorentz force caused by the interaction between the silicon melt and static magnetic field, which makes it possible to measure the true thermal conductivity of the melt. The convection in the levitated liquid silicon becomes negligible above 2 T.

A study on phase transition behavior of sphingophospholipid-water system was performed for the highly asymmetric chain length N-lignoceroylsphingomyelin (C24:0-SM) with a differential scanning microcalorimetry (DSC). The C24:0-SM was partially synthesized by a deacylationreacylation process with naturally occurring sphingomyelin used as a starting material. The C24:0SM showed a low-temperature phase transition of the subgel-to-gel phase (TS), successively followed by the common phase transition of the gel-to-liquid crystal phase (TM). The TS transition enthalpy decreased with an increase in periods of thermal annealing performed at the TM transition temperature. This indicated that the TM transition accompanies a change in the packing mode which proceeds very slowly up to the annealing periods of 9h. In this accord, the electron micrographs of the subgel phase showed a drastic structural change of planer bilayer stacks into multilamellar vesicles and finally into small size unilamellar vesicles, which appear with increasing the periods of the annealing.
