A dynamical analysis of a light bus is carried out in detail, and a mathematical model related to ABS is established. The braking processes of the vehicle with ABS using PID control, fuzzy control and traditional logic threshold control are simulated. The simulation results between the vehicle with and without ABS are compared, and the ABS performances based on these three kinds of controls are investigated at the same time.

In order to decrease traffic accidents, we are developing driving safety support systems (DSSS), which prevents traffic accidents by providing information about danger and warning to drivers in advance. For example, when the traffic signals turn amber when approaching the intersection, a driver normally has to judge whether to pass it or stop in a moment in consideration of the speed of the vehicle and situation of vehicles ahead and around. This system supports drivers in making judgment for safe driving using infrastructure of traffic control systems. Therefore, we theoretically estimate dilemma zones and proper positions to supply information in accordance with the speed of vehicles, and then conduct verification test on the test field.

Based on the higher order statistics (HOS), a step variable adaptive method for the nonlinear system estimation of engine noise transfer is proposed. It gives consistent estimation of parameters of linear and nonlinear components separately, so every step is easy to explore. HOS makes this algorithm insensitive to any i.i.d. noise. The variable step of the adaptive algorithm gives fast convergence rate. Our experiments on a microbus show that the proposed approach gives a system function that precisely describes the transfer of engine noise.

A new fractal image coding algorithm based on classification in the wavelet domain is proposed in this paper, by studying the adaptability and validity of wavelet decomposition acting as preprocessing of fractal image compression. Simulation results show that the new algorithm can obtain a good compression ratio and an improved coding speed as compared to the conventional fractal image coding algorithm based on block segmentation in the space domain at the same PSNR level. It is testified to be an effective fractal image compression scheme.

An adaptive ignition control system can adjust ignition angle automatically, so the power of the SI engine is improved while preventing it from knock. This paper describes an ignition control system, whose core is a micro-processor (80C552). The inputs include intake manifold pressure sensor, throttle position sensor, water temperature sensor, crankshaft position (speed) sensor, synchronization sensor and knock sensor. The software of the system includes main flow program and several interruption programs. The article describes how the knock signal acquisition, knock condition judgment, ignition-signal, etc. are controlled by the software. The peak-value of the knock signal is recorded in a circuit during one cycle, and accordingly this value of the knock is detected. A new two-parameter ignition angle adjusting method is used, which is according to the peak-value of knock signal during one cycle and the mean value of several cycle peak-values. This method effectively resolved the contrast of the high response and small cycle fluctuation of ignition angle control. The experiments on 368Q engine shows that the design of the system hard-and-software is feasible and the engine is prevented from knock effectively, the torque of the engine is improved.

The Vibroseis technique has been widely used in oil and gas exploration and engineering investigation. However traditional high-power vehicle based Vibroseis has such questions to be solved: complex structure; cumbersome; and low upper limiting sweep frequency (180 Hz). In this paper, a 5 kW electromagnetic driven Vibroseis system is introduced, the power supply transformation technique is discussed, double reversion circuits and multifold switching power amplifier are described. The problem of sweep bandwidth in hydraulic driven Vibroseis is solved by this new design.

This paper proposes a data transmission algorithm over inter-vehicle communications and a merging control algorithm, and describes the simulation studies and experiments using autonomous mobile robots with wireless LAN for the evaluation of the feasibility of the data transmission and merging control algorithms. The merging control algorithm uses a virtual vehicle which is generated by mapping a vehicle on a main lane or a ramp in order to achieve longitudinal control between a vehicle at a ramp and one on a main lane. The results of the simulations show the efficiency of the data transmission and the feasibility of the merging control using this algorithm. This algorithm was implemented in autonomous mobile robots with a control system and an on-board communications system using wireless LAN for the evaluation.
