In this paper, a systematic approach is presented for the design and optimization of forced liquid cooled electronic modules with high power dissipation. The steps of the design cycle include hydrodynamical evaluation of the heat sink, thermal management, thermomechanical optimization and especially lifetime prediction of soldered joints. Utilized engineering tools comprise computational fluid dynamics, finite differences and finite element programs. These are coupled via software interfaces in order to enable data exchange as well as efficient cooperation of the designers. Applying these means, performance, reliability and costs of a certain module have been optimized. By use of a design-for-reliability procedure substantial savings with regard to development time, prototyping effort and consequently costs can been achieved.

This paper introduces the principle of the time-recording on automobile driver training, discusses an error tolerance plan of data storage countering some possible inferences of the system and analyses of the double-layered (16, 11, 4) minimal optimal odd-weight error-correcting code. From the analysis, one can conclude that this code has the merit of low redundancy and strong ability of anti-inference and detecting and correcting error.

ITS R&D Center, Jilin University of Technology is undertaking an ITS technology project, Theory and Method of Urban Traffic Flow Guidance Systems. The project aims to improve the safety and efficiency of automobile travel. As a part of it, we developed a Trip Guidance System (TGS) based on the rapidly expanding Internet network. The scheme consists of a pretrip planning system which enables travelers to make a plan available at any terminal that is connected to the Internet; and an in-vehicle navigation system which provides traffic information and en-route advisory services. This paper presents some of our initial findings. It begins with a discussion of the unique functions of the Internet, which are robust enough to meet the needs of route guidance systems. It also presents an overall system structure, and highlights the critical considerations when implementing such services, that is, when using Internet-based technology. Finally, it concludes with a discussion of potential problems areas for future research.

Misfire detection or cylinder by cylinder variations feedback using momentary crankshaft speed is practical for certain engine conditions such as idle speed. It is still a difficult problem at high speed and transient condition. Aiming at that remaining challenge, this paper presents a new tool wavelet transform to process the momentary crankshaft speed. The multi-scale (or multiresolution) analysis of the speed signal at different engine operating condition is presented. The speed fluctuations between normal combustion and misfire are compared. The results indicate that wavelet transform is a suitable tool to process the speed signal and it paves a new way to achieve misfire detection at high or transient speed condition.

It was proposed that using high-order cumulants as signal processing means restrains the noise effects of a standard receiver. The paper analyses the errors of a differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) receiver such as receiver noise, deflective shift between channels about receivers, multi-distances error etc. The algorithm adopts cumulants slices means to make the result simple and accurate. High order cumulants may restrain the effects of Gaussian noise, so the signal to noise ratio (SNR) about the receiver was improved and the precision of the GPS receiver was enhanced for navigation and vehicle positioning.

In this paper, an adaptive neural network vector quantization algorithm is proposed first, then using this algorithm, an implementation based on TMS320C30 processor is developed in a color image coding system. The results show a better image quality by using this algorithm and that the color image coding system is effective.

A millimeter-wave radar using a spread spectrum technique for train applications has been developed in the 60 GHz band. This radar measures the distance, velocity, azimuth angle, and the magnitude of received signal of each target. The methods for detection are described in this paper. In the experiment, the radar detected the linear shape of trains.

This paper describes the significance and feasibility of a method based on pattern recognition and an application example of the estimation of road situations and driver's operating intentions (RSDOI). The information of RSDOI is not same in form as the state parameters. According to the specialty of RSODI, a fuzzy pattern recognition method is raised to estimate the information. Some relations between the driver, road, automobile and the electronic control systems of the automobile are illustrated.

An air injection variable swirl inlet system (AIVSIS) by means of injecting air into helical intake passage for a diesel engine was developed. Steady flow rig test results showed that AIVSIS is able to increase or decrease the swirl strength in the cylinder at suitable injector position by different air injection directions. Position and air injection directions of injector, as well as nozzle hole diameter and air injection pressure were determined. Diesel engine test results showed that AIVSIS hardly affects volumetric efficiency in the cylinder. At lighter load operating conditions of 1500 rpm, the performance and the trade-off between NO/sub x/ and particulate emission (PT), brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) are all improved using AIVSIS to reduce swirl strength without obvious increase of CO emission, but THC emission increases a little. At heavier load operating conditions, the performance and PT, THC and CO emissions are all improved using AIVSIS to increase swirl level, but at the same time, NO/sub x/ emission increases a little.
