This paper describes a framework for integrating information for dynamic vehicle routing and scheduling using GIS and intelligent transport system (ITS). A description of the types of information required for its application in freight transportation is presented. The integration framework introduced here aims to accommodate both geographic features and traffic information within one seamlessly articulated environment. The systems structure as well as implementation with embedded GIS is described. A local courier service operation is used as a case study to demonstrate the potential of such a system.

GPS positioning has a lot of error elements. In order to remove them, this paper advances a new method of GPS positioning-self-difference GPS positioning by a dynamic and fictitious datum station. The distance that a vehicle runs can be divided into many small regions. Every region sets up a fictitious datum station. The foundation of the fictitious datum station demands three values: forecasting value; real-time value; and value of the last datum station). They are in all sent to a neural network that consists of three layer neurons. The output of the neural network is the coordinates of the fictitious datum station. The training of the network uses a BP algorithm. The decision function chooses a nonlinear Sigmoid function. The experiment has proved that the method can significantly improve positioning precision, and that the system also has rapid tracking ability.

By using electronic control systems instead of an ordinary open-loop control systems with mechanical operation and hydraulic servos, the fluctuation of the output speed of a multi-range hydro-mechanical variable transmission (HMT) can be reduced from 17% to 2% (with PID control logic), and to 1.5% (with fuzzy control logic).

In this paper, the oriented-object computer language Visual Basic (v6.0) is used for programming the simulation of a vehicle dynamic system based on the concept of oriented-object program and visual modeling. Vehicle and component system models can be encapsulated inside its class module or user control ActiveX so that those models can be copied as different objects from the same source class module. This increases the program code reuse and efficiency. It is easy to describe multi-vehicle system simulation. With the function of VB add-ins under VB integrated development environment, a visual vehicle modeling system is also developed.

The interrelation of route choice and traffic control is more and more recognized, with the development and deployment of advanced traveller information system (ATIS). This paper uses some models to formulate the process of traffic control under guidance information, and signal control parameters are calculated. The particular concerns in this paper are how the process of signal control is formed, and how driver's travel behavior, network flow and signal control strategies are influenced by guidance information. A real-time on-line algorithm is developed for this study.

It is very important to predict the random vibration of vehicles by simulation techniques. To study the vibration of a vehicle running on an uneven road more accurately, nonlinear factors have to be taken into account. In this case, frequency domain methods would not be applicable. A method, which makes use of a digital filter system to generate a virtual road surface according to the statistical properties of a target road surface, is introduced. Under the help of the MSS (mechanical system simulation) code ADAMS, a nonlinear vibration model of the vehicle was built. On the basis of these, by using the virtual road surface as the input of the vehicle, the random vibration of the vehicle was simulated in the time domain and the results of simulation were analyzed.

The distributed control system is the newest achievement in reach of the modern automatic control system. It has been applied to every field in the industry sector. In this paper, the authors introduce a small scale distributed control system that is used in automobile safety test automation. It is recognized by a foreground system, based on an industrial computer with a multiscreen, and a background system based on a single-chip microcomputer intelligent unit.

Based on the relative relationships between the traffic volumes of intersections, the method of cluster analysis is adopted to classify the intersections in this article. The method is verified through data from the road network of Chang Chun city. This achievement can help us to solve the problem of predicting the traffic volume of the nondetector intersections. It makes it possible to realize the traffic flow guidance in the cites which don't have enough intersections equipped with detectors. Meanwhile it can provide a theory to decide the strategic intersections and to run the strategic intersections with more attention.

In this paper, a road vehicle steering algorithm is enhanced by the addition of supplementary algorithms for cases in which a preceding vehicle obscures the forward view. Computer simulation experiments are performed in order to evaluate the algorithm and to validate formulae for the adjustment of control parameters with changes in vehicle speed.
