The article presents an overview of archival materials from the collections of the State Archives of the Murmansk region and the National Archives of the Republic of Karelia, identified in the course of archival heuristics in the process of studying the history of the development of parochial schools in the Kola district of the Arkhangelsk province in the late 19th – first third of the 20th centuries. An analysis of the information potential of the following types of historical sources is given: statistical records, clerical records, formulary lists of priests who taught in schools.

The article deals with the little-studied question of the financial situation of the rural clergy of the Kola North in the last third of the XIX century, in other words, after the introduction in 1873 of a new staffing list of parish churches in the region. The main source of information for the study was the clear sheets for 1884, which had not been previously involved by researchers. They were preserved in the fund of the Third Deanery District of the Kemsky uezd (county) of the Arkhangelsk province, which then included parishes located on the Karelian and Tersk shores of the White Sea. The main sources of income of local clergy are determined; information on the state salary of the white clergy is analyzed; the degree of security of clerics with different lands is revealed. Based on the revealed data, it is concluded that there is a significant difference in the welfare of individual parishes of the Kola North. Special attention is paid to the housing problem that existed in almost all parishes and significantly complicated the daily life of priests and clergymen.

The article is devoted to the daily cultural practices of families with German roots, related to the preservation of the memory of a family-related community. Family historical and cultural memory includes knowledge about family history. The sources were interviews and family heirlooms of informants with German ancestry living in the Murmansk region. As a result of a survey of thirteen informants, it was found that only four families had memorial items. This is primarily due to the fact that German families were deported on a national basis during the Second World War. The significance of family heirlooms lies in the fact that they serve as a means of transmitting the memory of ancestors, turning it into a family history.

It is known that some sites of rock art finds coexist with traces of mining: stone material for making tools, asbestos for ceramics, ocher for paint, etc. The petroglyphs of Kanozero also turned out to be associated with “mining”. So, near the group of petroglyphs Kamenny 5 on Kamenny Island, a rocky area was discovered where crystalline schist was mined, probably used to make stone tools. The article provides a description of the traces of mining at this rock outcrop, the stages of separating stone blocks that could be traced. A discussion is proposed regarding the connection of this mining of stone with making of petroglyphs. Recently discovered petroglyphs of this panel are also published.

The article is based on the documents of the National Archive of the Republic of Karelia, the Scientific Archive of the Karelian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the National Archive of Finland, as well as published sources dating back to the period of the Russian revolution 1917. The author considers one of the most important aspects of the history of the Karelian national movement –– the preferences, expectations and miscalculations of its leaders in the context of the transformation of their program installations in 1905–1917. The evolution of the ideas common to movement activists on the political future and economic life of Russian Karelia, the emergence of new public institutions and the renewal of political programs in the context of the democratization of Russian society are shown. The reasons for the sharp strengthening, divergence and further confrontation of multidirectional forces in the Karelian outback in spring – autumn of 1917 were noted.

Based on the analysis of the results of a survey of guides living in the Murmansk region, the article discusses their represents about the development of tourism in the Kola region and the place of spiritual tourism in this infrastructure. In our opinion, guides play an important role in designing and forming the travel experience. Spiritual tourism is considered as a concept in a broad sense, as tourism that attracts travelers whose main motivation is the desire for spiritual development, which involves self-realization and self-enrichment during the trip. The results of the study showed that the guides of the region are poorly involved as intermediaries in this type of tourism. This is largely due to the fact that, according to the guides, spiritual tourists should travel on their own.

In 2017 and 2019, the archaeological expedition of the National Museum of the Republic of Karelia conducted field surveys in the territory of Russian Lapland on the topics “Monuments of the Late Middle Ages and Modern Times of Karelia and the Kola Peninsula: dynamics of intercultural interaction” and “Ancient sacred objects” of Eastern Fennoscandia. The article presents a general overview of the results of these studies. Three places with cult stones have been recorded –– Mount Lisya, Lake Tashechnoye and the Sredny Peninsula. A complex of boulder pits has been opened on the Khlebnaya River. In the village of Teriberka, searches were conducted for the site of the church of the Georgian Icon of the Mother of God. Three places with the name “portage” were examined on the coast of the Barents Sea. A group of stone constructions has been found on Kildin Island, which may be cenotaphs.

The main directions of research of virtual network communities of Kola Sami in the Russian “ethnic Internet” are considered in the context of general problems of studying cyberethnicity. The historical review presents methodological grounds for the study of cyberethnicity, key issues, ideas, results of work devoted to the features of the representation of the ethnic identity of the Kola Sami of the Murmansk region through the online Sami cultural environment, as well as the development and functioning of Internet communities aimed at preserving and promoting Sami culture.
