During the preparation of the taxonomic review of Comolia, some taxonomic novelties were found. Here we describe Comolia paraensis, a new species endemic to the Brazilian state of Pará, preliminary categorized as Endangered. This species occurs in the campinas around Oriximiná and in the stony Amazonian savannas of Monte Alegre and Óbidos. Comolia paraensis is morphologically similar to C. kuhlmannii and C. veronicifolia, two taxonomic entities that here were considered distinct from C. villosa. Comolia paraensis is illustrated, compared with similar species, and notes on its geographic distribution and preliminary conservation status are provided. We also discuss the succulence found in the branches of the population from Monte Alegre, something unprecedented within Marcetieae, but commonly reported in Pyramieae and Sonerileae.

We describe here a rare, critically endangered new species of the genus Cheniella from Guangdong province of southern China. Cheniella tsoongii is morphologically similar to C. corymbosa, and can be distinguished by having a combination of deeply-bilobed hairy leaves, white flowers, shorter hypanthia, yellow anthers, and densely ferruginous-tomentose inflorescence rachides, pedicles and hypanthia. We suggest assessing the conservation status of the species as Critically Endangered (CR) as it possesses an extremely high risk of extinction based on the rapid population declines during the last century and, only no more than 10 individuals remain in an environmentally unprotected area now. Urgent conservation studies and actions are necessary to prevent the extinction of this species.

Two new orchid species, Platanthera linzhiensis, P. deergongensis, are described and illustrated from Motuo, Xizang, China. P. linzhiensis is closely related to P. uniformis, but differs from it by lip yellowish green, spur yellow, nearly as long as ovary, connective obtuse-truncate, not protruding from anther, column lateral appendages ovate to oblong, slightly shorter than the anther. P. deergongensis is morphologically similar to P. contigua, but is distinguished from it by having white lip, obtuse-truncate connective and ovate to oblong column lateral appendages. Molecular phylogenetic analysis based on six markers (nrITS, psaB, matK, psbA-trnH, rbcL, trnL-F) revealed that P. linzhiensis and P. deergongensis formed a clade with high support, and are close to P. superantha.

Asparagus lycaonicus P.H.Davis (Asparagaceae), a highly interesting halophytic species was found in two disjunct populations of ca. 1550 km aerial distance, one in Central Anatolia (Bolluk Salt Lake) and the other in Central Iran (Meyghan Salt Lake). Using one nuclear phytochrome C (PHYC) and two plastid regions (trnH-psbA and trnD-T) the phylogenetic position of this Irano-Turkish endemic species was studied. In contrast to low resolution of plastid sequences, the PHYC provides good resolution for understanding species level phylogeny in SW Asian Asparagus. Molecular data confirms a conspecific position of the two disjunct localities in Turkey and Iran and their position in a clade containing cultivated Asparagus and many other Irano-Turkish species. Asparagus lycaonicus is extremely rare in Iran and since its discovery in 1986, it has never been rediscovered in Iran, even in its initial collection site. Intensive land use activities, water level changes and the passage of Arak wastewater into the Meyghan Salt Lake area has drastically changed the habitat of A. lycaonicus and might have caused its extinction. Since its discovery in 1960 in Turkey, the species is only found in a small area around and inside a sodic extraction factory around Bolluk Lake. Considering the critical condition of its populations in Iran and Turkey, we evaluate the conservation status of Asparagus lycaonicus as Critically Endangered (CR). In conclusion we urge the authorities to implement in situ measures for conservation and restoration of the habitats of A. lycaonicus, a halophytic species related to cultivated Asparagus. The taxonomic status of some newly described Asparagus from Iran is discussed with reducing A. touranensis Hamdi & Assadi to synonym of A. griffithii Baker., A. khorasanensis Hamdi & Assadi to synonym of A. breslerianus Schult. & Schult.f, and Asparagus bojnurdensis Hamdi & Assadi to synonym of A. verticillatus L.
讨论了伊朗新描述的一些芦笋的分类地位,将 A. touranensis Hamdi & Assadi 降为 A. griffithii Baker.的异名,将 A. khorasanensis Hamdi & Assadi 降为 A. breslerianus Schult.

Taxonomic studies on the genus Croton in the Midwest region of Brazil enabled the analysis of about 700 collections from all over the country. Three of these collections were identified as a new species, Croton piriquetifolius, which is described and illustrated here. We also give a preliminary evaluation of its conservation status, provide data on flowering and fruiting seasons, geographic distribution environmental preferences, as well as its systematic position. The new species is compared macro- and micromorphologically with C. adamantinus, C. glandulosus and C. eremophilus, with which it resembles or has been confused in herbaria. Morphological (e.g., presence, shape, and location of the acropetiolar nectaries, presence, and distribution of glands on stipules, presence, and size of pedicel on pistillate flower, integrity of styles, type, and location of trichomes) and anatomical (e.g., disposition of the stomata, contour of petiole and midrib, organization of vascular bundles, type of mesophyll, and types of trichomes) characters serve to differentiate the species studied.

A new species of orchid, Platanthera medogensis, was described and illustrated from Xizang Autonomous Region, China. P. medogensis is close to P. bakeriana and P. chiloglossa, but is readily distinguished from the latter by having ovate-lanceolate lip concave at base with two calli, linear visidium, two stigmas below the rostellum. Molecular phylogenetic analysis based on five markers (nrITS, matK, psbA-trnH, rbcL, trnL-F) revealed that P. medogensis is sister with P. exelliana by full support.

A new population of Centaurea, belonging to the C. busambarensis complex, was recently discovered in the Nebrodi Mountain (northeastern Sicily). Individuals of this population show some peculiar characters differentiating it from the nine currently recognized species of the C. busambarensis complex in Sicily. To validate this differentiation, we conducted a statistical analysis on the morphological characters. The results indicated that this new population is sufficiently distinct to deserve recognition as a separate species. In this context, we provide a detailed description and illustrations of the newly identified species, which we name C. haluntina. This new species is a punctiform endemic to the lower Nebrodi Mountains.

Absidia is ubiquitous and plays a critical function in biotechnology and medicine. It is characterized by single sporangiophores, in pairs or groups on stolons, bearing apophysate and pyriform sporangia with a deliquescent wall. This study isolated and proposed Absidia thailandica sp. nov. as an addition to Mucorales from Thailand. Phylogenetic analyses of IITS + LSU rDNA data showed that this species is related to A. ovalispora and A. soli. However, it differs from A. ovalispora by the absence of swollen parts on the sporangiophores and shape of rhizoids and can be distinguished from A. soli by the shape of rhizoids, size of sporangiospores and shape and size of columellae. This study expands the diversity of soil fungi in Thailand.
本研究分离并提出 Absidia thailandica sp.IITS + LSU rDNA 数据的系统进化分析表明,该物种与 A. ovalispora 和 A. soli 相关。

Species of Biscogniauxia (Graphostromataceae) are known as pathogens and endophytes, distributed worldwide. In this study, we isolated two new endophytic strains of Biscogniauxia from Dicranopteris dichotoma. A new species, B. dicranopteridis, and a new host record of B. petrensis were identified based on morphology and phylogenetic analysis of four genes loci (LSU, ITS, RPB2 and β-TUB). Detailed descriptions and illustrations of the two new isolates, along with a phylogenetic tree depicting the position of the new species, are provided.
