The experience of Russian libraries in ecological education for the sake of sustainable development goals (SDGs) is examined. The winner projects submitted for RNPLS&T’s contests in 2018–2022 are reviewed in brief. The main trends in ecological education and SDG advancement are discussed.

The ecological project: Step into the new library mediaspace 生态工程:步入图书馆新媒体空间

Due to the concerns of Kstovo residents about the ecological situation, the need for reliable information increased. The goal was to design an efficient model of ecological education and promotion of ecological culture. Through the grant support of the number of accomplished projects, the solution was found. At A. S. Pushkin Central Library, Ecological Space and Comfort Zone has been established. It comprises computer ecological information database, multimedia equipment, professional scanner, and provides access to the Internet resources.

The information resources acquired through the support of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. These resources contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 2 «Zero Hunger…», are described in brief. These are FAO sections (primarily «Statistics» and «Publications»), AGRIS international database, and AGROVOC multi-language thesaurus. The role of the Central Scientific Agricultural Library in their promotion and/or development is demonstrated. The accessibility of information in Russian is assessed.

Individual ecological literacy is formed through combination of educational and practical activities and emotional intelligence. Walking tours, excursions, hiking can be supplemented with exciting storytelling that also includes book citations, legends and myths. The ecological trail teaches that humans are rather guests than masters of the nature. The guests should respect the rules of the master’s home. We must protect, love and observe the nature, because we are at one.
