Idiosyncratic knowledge, defined as the internal knowledge produced by a bank on each of its borrowers, is at the heart of the financial intermediation process. Nonetheless, the way bank managers use information in the credit-granting process remains a black box in the existing econometric studies. On the basis of a statistical textual analysis conducted on prior-to-credit-committee notices of 52 credit files stemming from a social bank, our paper offers three main contributions. First, we show that the social bank under scrutiny produces a rich idiosyncratic knowledge mainly composed of soft information. Second, we reveal how the qualitative and the quantitative dimensions of the idiosyncratic knowledge are used when credit conditions are determined; hierarchy playing a key role in this process of interpretation. Third, our results indicate that the bank relies on an information system as well as on its agents’ cognitive abilities to memorise the idiosyncratic knowledge it produces. In this respect, our research points out deficiencies in the bank’s organisational memory and suggests some directions to remedy them.

Since at least the 1990s, a movement quoted as the “health democracy,” has set out to establish new rights for patients, and changes current professional practices. Its dynamic can be analyzed through the lens of performativity , a whole wave of research with the aim to understand how a theory or doctrine can feasibly make real what it theorizes and encourages. “Health democracy” intends to reduce the disproportionate distribution of power in doctor/patient relationships. In parallel, different innovations related to the ir- ruption of E-health (social networks, web applications, and other devices) are currently modifying the practices, and thereby reconstructing the relationships between patients and professionals. Based on a corpus analysis, using a scoping review method, this article ex- plores the ways E-health modifies the process of performativity in the “health democracy”. Two effects are identified: a co-production introduced in the classic relationship between patients and healthcare professionals thanks to a better follow-up at distance, and a new form of expertise based on the information circulating on the internet. Each effect develops its own benefits and risks. In order to optimize this new added-value offered by E-health on patient engagement, many managerial consequences must be taken into account. Em- ploying a narrative approach to the dynamics currently at play, it establishes that E-health represents a process of performativity of health democracy by “overflowing”. It also high- lights a risk of counter-performativity: in that if the traditional patient/doctor relationship is less asymmetric, answering to the “health democracy”’s demand may pose another risk related to the use of internet-based information that threats this equilibrium.

Firms automatically and continuously capture a high amount of digital data through social media, RFID tags, clickstreams, smart meters, manufacturing sensors, equipment logs, and vehicle tracking systems. However, empirical evidence on the effects of the generation of these digital data on firm performance remains scarce in the Information Systems and Management literature. Therefore, from a dynamic capability perspective, this paper examines whether companies' ability to leverage digital data, which we call their Digital Data dynamic capability, leads to better financial performance, and whether there are moderating effects on this relationship. In order to achieve these goals, the following research questions are addressed: 1) To what extent do firms that develop Digital Data dynamic capabilities achieve better financial performance? 2) To what extent do organisational and industry-related environmental conditions moderate the relationship between a firm's Digital Data dynamic capability and financial performance? We empirically test our hypotheses through partial least square modelling using a financial database and a survey of sales managers from 125 firms. We find that the development of Digital Data dynamic capability provides value in terms of firm financial performance and that the moderating effects are influential: under high levels of dynamism and munificence in younger firms, the relationship is stronger. Overall, this study evaluates the potential business value of firm digital data use and addresses a lack of empirical evidence on this issue in the Information Systems literature. We discuss two managerial implications. First, managers should pay more attention to digital data phenomena and to ways of leveraging value creation opportunities. Second, managers must evaluate their environmental and organisational characteristics when business opportunities from digital data are taken into account.
