A mobile Ad Hoc network (MANET) is made of mobile nodes connected to each other via wireless links. The nodes function both as routers and as host devices, so routing protocols are necessary. They generate additional stream of control packets - the overhead. It can be reduced by controlling the request and response zones of Ad Hoc network nodes. In this paper, the method for routing in MANET is proposed, which operates by controlling the request and response zones of network nodes during the route search process in order to reduce the routing overhead and network load1. The method consists of Signal level Restricted Flooding (SRF) algorithm, the location-based routing and the Request Zone Minimization (RZM) algorithm. The simulations of the routing algorithms have been performed and the results are presented in the paper.

Creating of modern Parking Management and Payment Service are the most valuable to users and environment if driver can book parking spaces online in advance. That feature can shorten time to find empty parking locations in cities environment, economy fuel and avoid unnecessary pollution while driving to find places spontaneously. Offering reservation service even for 10–20 minutes makes possible to occupy exact space without unnecessary stress and significant extra fees for parking. To utilize that feature, parking space and vehicle's location detection must be performed in most economic way, to achieve mass service penetration. Smart sensing, measurement and communication method is described as core technology for such service.

The paper presents a lossless compression method, based on the variation of the byte length of data elements in the sequence. The method has been developed and analyzed in the field of image compression. The purpose of creating such an algorithm was to simplify the hardware realization of the image compression and save hardware area and memory resources. It is used after DCT transformation along with different quantization method comparing to JPEG encoding. Results of the algorithm are compared to JPEG compression results.

Managing of road maintenance is the most complex task for road administrations. The first presumption for the evaluation analysis and correct road construction rehabilitation is to have accurate and up-todate information about road pavement condition. As the pavement condition survey is a critical process, it needs fast and cost-effective methods to collect necessary data. The paper proposes a system for automatic road pavement survey that uses image processing techniques to extract features from road images. A Neural Networks approach is used for detection of regions of images with defects and, further processing also, classifying defects into separate types. Proposed system could be used in the future to replace human labour for identification and classification of defects.

In this paper, certain aspects of choosing excitation waveforms for fast identification of the complex electrical impedance over a wide frequency range are discussed. For this purpose, several chirp-like short-time excitation signals with near to minimal duration are proposed. The results of computer simulation and analysis are promising for implementing such kind of signals as the stimulating ones in the bioimpedance measurement.

This article describes high-speed logic associative multiprocessor for concurrent analyzing information represented in analytic, graph- and table forms of associative relations to search, recognize and make a decision in n-dimensional vector discrete space. Vectorlogical process models of actual applications, for which the quality of solution is estimated by the proposed integral non-arithmetical metric of the interaction between Boolean vectors, are described.

Bioimpedance signal analysis has to be performed in a rather wide frequency range. If fast ADCs, capable of taking signal sample values at very high sampling frequencies, are used for that, their bit rates typically are very low. It is suggested to use pseudo-randomized quantizing and special methods for handling the obtained data to provide for bioimpedance data acquisition under the required conditions and for demodulation of multi-frequency carriers of bioimpedance signals in the required frequency range. The suggested methods are described, computer simulated and discussed.

In the given paper the power losses of bi-directional semiconductor switches are evaluated in the context of elaboration of an integrated matrix converter AC drive where such switches are used. Safe operation of switches in a converter is extremely important factor for its successful operation of in whole. This, amongst other, assumes successful thermal design of the converter. The thermal design of matrix converters, especially integrated, is complicated due to the variety of their configurations, harder cooling conditions etc. For this reason the initial estimation of the losses through simulation seems helpful. This, however, requires an adequate model of the switches. In this paper calculated, simulated and experimentally measured losses of the switches are compared and conclusions regarding the utilized model are made.

The specifications of power electronic systems are becoming ever more exigent - better performance (dynamic and steady state), increased efficiency, reliability, and quality, and decreased power rating, size (volume and weight), and cost. One strategy for the overall improvement of these systems is to use various cooperating converters with the system functions being shared among them, optimizing each converter for the functions assigned it. The result will be a converter with better characteristics than a conventional design based on a single converter (or on a simple parallel association of converters) responsible for all the functions assigned to the system. This paper analyzes the possibilities of such cooperative converters, considering the filtering inductor size, and the efficiency, reliability, and power rating.

Cardiovascular diseases are the world's largest killers, claiming 17.1 million lives a year (WHO 2009). Most countries face high and increasing rates of cardiovascular disease. High arterial stiffness is a symptom and increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Arteries stiffen normally as a consequence of age, but also because of arteriosclerosis. Age related stiffness occurs when the elastic fibers within the arterial walls begin to weaken due to age, but diseases as arteriosclerosis accelerate this process.
