Non-linear chalcogenide glasses and technologies for the development of ultra-fast chip-scale optical devices 非线性硫系玻璃与超高速芯片级光学器件的发展技术

Chalcogenide glasses are novel highly non-linear materials for photonics. Modification of optical glasses by high-intensity femtosecond pulses is a novel fast developing technology based on non-linear effects. In this paper, the advantages of using the method of femtosecond modifications for the fabrication of highly non-linear 3D photonic structures in bulk chalcogenide glasses are overviewed. Design and modelling of chip-scale highly non-linear structures for all-optical signal processing are discussed.

Analysis of DQPSK signals performance in upgrading metropolitan area networks to 40 Gbit/s per channel 城域网升级到40gbit /s /信道时DQPSK信号性能分析

The always increasing traffic demand requires the upgrade of current 10 Gbit/s per channel metropolitan area networks (MANs) to higher bit rate per channel. Differential quadrature phase shift keying (DQPSK) appears as one of the most promising modulation formats for this upgrade. In this paper, 40 Gbit/s per channel DQPSK signals performance is assessed through numerical simulation in presence of the main limitations of deployed 10 Gbit/s MANs. It is shown that DQPSK signals have high tolerance to the limited available bandwidth and better robustness to nonlinear impairments than optical single sideband (OSSB) signals, another very promising modulation format for the MANs upgrade. However, OSSB signals show higher tolerance to residual dispersion (when electrical dispersion compensation is used) and better performance when transmitted together with 10 Gbit/s intensity modulated signals.

Traffic statistics in WDM storage area networks WDM存储区域网络中的流量统计

Storage area networks (SANs) are becoming an important part of optical metropolitan area networks (MANs). Growing storage and business-continuity needs; high-bandwidth, low latency requirements for SANs; storage infrastructure consolidation; and post-9/11 regulatory issues are among the several driving factors to push this trend. In this paper, we study network traffic in a proposed metro wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) ring architecture SAN with variable-length packets. The paper begins with a brief review of the relevant background information on SANs, data mirroring and network traffic analysis in the literature. Subsequently, the network architectures along with their medium access control (MAC) protocols are described. Network traffic analysis for the proposed network architectures is studied by means of discrete-event computer simulation. Network traffic characteristics are evaluated under self-similar asymmetric traffic scenarios.

The scalable advanced dense access network architecture (SARDANA) is a proposal for the fiber-to-the- home (FTTH) future next-generation of access networks. It is based on a flexible Hybrid WDM/TDM architecture built with remote nodes (RNs) that connect PONs to a WDM ring, providing resiliency. The RNs have remotely pumped amplification permitting a long distance reach. The ONUs are colorless, seeded for uplink by the downstream light generated at the OLT. In this work, we propose a design for the optical line terminal (OLT) that shares its available optical resources, thus providing great traffic efficiency. The traffic is managed by a Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation protocol based on OBS that suits the employed modulation format.

Analysis of general optical resonator structures coupled by straight waveguides 直波导耦合的一般光学谐振腔结构分析

In this contribution will be shown how optical resonators can be analyzed in an efficient way. The structure should be symmetric with two symmetry planes S1 - S1 and S2 - S2. Therefore only a quarter of it with different walls at the symmetry planes must be analysed. The quarter is subdivided into different parts. In homogeneous parts the MoL is used and in the inhomogeneous ones an adequate FD-algorithm based on the GTL-equations.

In this paper, through an input-output formulation based on a full-quantum mechanical treatment of light matter interaction, some regimes to detect dipole induced transparency and electromagnetic induced transparency have been given. The main novelty of this paper is that the possibility to achieve total reflectivity from a system composed of many cavities could be obtained increasing the number of cavities, relaxing at the same time the condition for coupling a quantum state and a cavity mode. The main applications of this study are related to switching and all optical buffers, mainly in the field of quantum information processing.

The self-consistent model has been used to simulate an operation of the 1.3 -mum GaAs-based quantum-dot (QD) In(Ga)As/GaAs laser. An impact of the QD density and uniformity on laser operation characteristics has been discussed. Performance of oxide-confined (OC) and proton-implanted (PI) VCSELs has been compared and their optimal structures have been analysed. Lasing thresholds of PI VCSELs have been found to be lower at room temperature than those of OC VCSELs but, at higher temperatures, this relation becomes inverted.

Analysis of electronic buffers in optical packet/burst switched mesh networks 光分组/突发交换网状网络中的电子缓冲器分析

We present in this paper the study of electronic buffering in an innovative architecture for optical packet/burst switched network (OPSN). This architecture comprises optical bufferless nodes with electronic packet queuing out of the optical layer, deflection routing to perform contention resolution and fully connected mesh topologies under uniform traffic distribution. We demonstrate, by means of simulation, that the studied architecture has a great improvement in performance when we introduce such electronic buffers, which are more efficient when used with the optimized mesh topologies.
